CTA Video

We don't know if this video will play in the blogger platform. We're going to give it a try though. This was recorded back in January and posted on X / Twitter.

(don't worry, you don't need an account to watch it - either here or on Twitter at this link:

That's the Blue Line at O'Hare we believe.

Without even trying, we counted at least SIXTY, possibly SEVENTY, sleeping, overdosed, homeless and/or mentally ill people on a single CTA train.

And Conehead wonders why Trump wants to cut tens of millions in transit funding?

Enforce bag checks, patdowns, and refusal for mentals and bums.

from the many years of working cta special.....they never push to arrest or remove them from the train. During the winter ....when they reach ohare it looks like the walking dead. And at the time we had to ask them get off the train and walk through the turnstyle to be counted and back onto the train.

this is why I refuse to do CTA special anymore...We should all stop doing it for the following reason: We have no problem cleaning it up, that's what we are supposed to do- but- not if there is no plan and no direction and confidence in how to proceed. The people in that video are not yesterday's pissbum that you could either kick out of the platforms and trains or lock up on some class C.
This is so out of control that the hospitals do not want you bringing them there for involuntary psyche eval, so-called crisis intervention or 'detox.'
The lock-ups at all the districts do not want them in their cells when they are lice infested and covered in their own waste and end up being a b.s transport for meds waste of time who ends up district release and goes right back to the CTA...
what is the plan?
You now get dropped off at a platform. If you run into an arrest you have to call for a transport because you have no car. If you have the decency to process your own arrest (rather than hand it off to a district beat car), you now need another transport to the district of arrest ... for yourself!
Everybody says keep the blinders on and do it for the money and don't do any work. Man, this is broken.
Add another 100 spots to mayor's detail, and another 100 to CIRT, and add the invisible Mass Transit Unit to the hundreds of other invisible uniforms that you will never see flooding the trains to make it safe and useable for people who really need it.
then you have cowards stopping regular commuters for moving train to train for ANOVs because they're trying to get away from the stink and zombies on these cars?!

Years ago when the CTA had its own but small police force, the criminals and bums would flee those trains because they knew they didn’t take any shit from them. The CTA had their own attorneys in their legal department who would be dispatched to courts to assist in the prosecution of the arrestees. Mayor Byrne disbanded the CTA Police.

The big mistake CPD made with their transit detail was to have officers from other districts and units assigned working their days off. It seemed for SOME the interest was making overtime money and not getting involved. This can be a big problem if an officer is only there one day a week or a few weeks and is assigned all over the city and has no idea of what’s going on. If the City and CTA were serious about transforming the CTA Detail they need to throw a lot of money into it and expand the manpower vastly. The politicians who run CTA and the City have “wet dreams” about CTA ambassadors, security guards, dogs propaganda that shines in the news but doesn’t solve the problems or the declining tidership. Legit people stopped riding CTA because they know what can happen to them because they are view sites like SCC, CWB and a host of others.

The transportation system is supposed to generate money for the services it provides. There is no way it can when it caters to the criminals and the disgusting clown show that goes 24/7. These political dictators need to be asked one by one, would you allow this to go on in your homes. Would you allow your children to ride the CTA. The people who control CTA don’t ride CTA.

Think about the City’s motto,
“CHICAGO WORKS” . It works for them, but not for us!

Wow..are these CTA Trains or a homeless camp?? This truly reminds me of what the police stations looked like when the illegals were camping out ( of course the police stations were much worse) but im sure the stink is no different!! How much do these riders pay for the CTA??? The seats are nasty, the smells are nauseating and can you imagine what germs or diseases you can pick up just being on that car or touching anything. Gross.

There was actually a time when real adults rode the blue line train to work downtown everyday. They commuted to/from a safe, suburban like neighborhood. They read the paper or a book on their ride in. They relaxed and went about their business. You now have a better chance of being battered, set on fire or some other kind of heinous assault while on this train than anything else. Is this what “be the change” or “hope and change” meant? Is this what these signs saying “we all live here” mean? What happened to this place.

The video is absolutely true! I take the Blue Line to/from work several times per week. The earlier in the day it is & the colder it is outside, the worse it is! I’m on the train as I’m typing this. It smells like weed in here! I didn’t see anyone sleeping on the train today. It’s more unusual to ***not*** see them, than it is to see them.

I have to work for a living. I work downtown. My transit choices are limited. I can drive, but who can afford to park downtown. I can also take a bus, but those bike lanes have increased travel times to insane amounts.

There’s a poll floating around the dept designed specifically for cops who moved here from wherever to take the job. One of questions is “do you feel safe both on and off duty?” This kid in roll call was showing me. And, since the CTA neglected to have bathrooms installed on each car, you can only imagine what these " unhoused" people have resorted to doing. Our last two mayors have done a lot to plunge this once great city into steady decline as liberal mayors of the same ilk have done all over the country. You can name the cities that are just about unlivable without even trying. And, it has little to do with race ( although that weighs heavily), as you can look at Seattle, San Francisco , Portland, Milwaukee, Los Angeles, New Orleans and St. Louis and Baltimore. Washington D.C would be a total slum except the Feds are able to step in.

For various reasons I had to visit Mexico City about 6 or 7 times over the 2010s. A sprawling city of 20 million people, the massive subway system there was cleaner, faster, safer, more reliable, & far cheaper than the CTA.

It was a shock; even this Third World nation had better public transit than Chicago, one of the largest cities in the wealthiest nation ever on earth. Mexico definitely has huge Cartel problems (thanks to Gringos' insatiable appetite for cocaine), but even they don't put up with what you see in this video.

Was using the train a short time ago and noticed a homeless shelter office think there by where you exit the train platform. Think Haymarket has an outreach office there. Not sure but why is there an office there handing out free food at one of the busiest airports in the world?!? Not saying that's a reason the homeless hang out but maybe put it somewhere else where they could travel to away from actual tourists and people paying to either visit the city or pay to use the CTA.

Retired bus driver from Milwaukee. Years ago, we were told to "have a heart" and let the bums, homeless, mentally ill on and ride.
Sadly, looking at that video, it really makes you want to ride, huh?
These transit agencies can promote themselves/advertise all they want. When you hear of robberies, assaults or just waiting at a bus stop, and hearing "you got a cigarette" over and over, it gets old. Really old!
And kids broke a window on my bus (with cameras), and I was told "they're on welfare. we won't get the money." I wrote my report. "They broke the windows." His report said, "the operator THINKS they broke the window."
So, you know how the deck is stacked!
How often does CTA brass ever use their product?

I worked Mass Transit for 20 plus years. 2nd watch and 3rd watch would kick all Stew bums and miscreants off the train during rush hours. Chicago coalition for the homeless and catholic charities would give out monthly passes each month and Cta allowed them on during extreme weather and over night. All bums and others were routinely kicked off during peak ridership hours and the brown and blue lines were kept bum free. That was when Mass Transit had close to 400 officers. I retired in '23 and the unit was down to under 100. The policy switched in about 2012-24 to leave bums and mental alone unless causing major disturbances. It's gotten worse every year.

"Without even trying, we counted at least SIXTY, possibly SEVENTY, sleeping, overdosed, homeless and/or mentally ill people on a single CTA train." - SCC

“Our police department and our fire department respond to this location probably more than any other location in our jurisdiction,” (FP Mayor) Hoskins said. “Forest Park is the only community in Cook County … with two major train lines that end (there). So we provide police response, and fire and medical response."

Can't find the exact figure, but Hoskins said that it was *hundreds* of responses per year. Oak Park the same. OP fire apparatus is wearing out on the endless bum calls - every time ambo goes out, big heavy engine w/2 EMTs follows.

Watched an OP crew try to start a tired, dead engine - took about five big lithium battery packs *and* the genny on the service truck all paralleled *and* gentle professional tapping w/ball peen on the starter motor.

...and the village wants to build an overnight "unhoused" shelter that will attract even more trouble, *AND* a new $30 million swimming pool - rather than getting the PD up to strength and something decent for FD to work with.

...but they have the money to contract with some "ECHO" social service agency that supposedly handles street-psych calls. Their operator would NOT speak clearly into the mike when requested and would NOT send anyone when I called once - but they counted that as one of "700 calls for assistance handled by us," so's to help justify next year's contract.

DEI in action...

Evidently you weren't around for the "CTA Police." One car north of Madison, one car south of Madison. Guys assigned to the end of the line rail yards, and maybe 1 team of guy that were sanctioned by their bosses to make arrests. They were basically a high priced security guard outfit. And as far as bringing them back? Could you imagine the hiring and the supervisors they'd have in place? Would make CPD look like a "premier" agency. Every mutt boss that'd retire would magically become some "CTA Cmdr., or CTA Deputy Chief." And that lockup guy or review guy would retire and become "CTA Lt. or Sgt."
