They call this the "northwest side" but we have our doubts:
One person was hospitalized in serious condition after a police-involved shooting on the city's Northwest Side on Monday evening, officials said. Chicago police said the shooting happened in the Humboldt Park neighborhood's 800-block of North Homan Avenue.
Chopper 7 was over the scene, where a car appeared to have crashed into a bus.
A Chicago Fire Department spokesperson said one person was taken to a local hospital in serious to critical condition. There is a large police presence at the scene.
Police said an offender is in custody, a weapon was recovered, and no officers were injured. What led up to the shooting was not immediately clear.
That's the west side as far as we know. No one called it "north" until you crossed Division. "West" could vary.
No Officers hospitalized, so that's good.
UPDATE: Offender has reached his expiration date.

Northwest side for me means N/W of Touhy and Harlem
A pursuit.. hit a pedestrian during pursuit. continued pursuit after hitting pedestrian(must be terminated per order for any offense no matter the crime) and then the shooting that killed the offender.. there may be some issues here.. maybe not with the shooting, but with the continuation of the pursuit which then led to the shooting.. if pursuit is stopped per policy then shooting never happens. That will be the civil attorney angle.. glad all officers are ok.

Welcome to "the game". They have been classifying shootings in south lawndale, homan square, little village, etc. etc. as south side shootings forever, buckle up or move out.
PS - yeah, I live South, and it is not near anywhere I mentioned.
Cross Addison and Cicero or Addison and Central, that might be the Northwest side, but Humboldt Park is definitely the Westside. Your mileage may vary.
The North side is so understaffed and I’m surprised there aren’t more shootings with lack of police. The shortage of beat cars is only hurting the residents and other officers.
That's because 80% of these ass-wipe 30 somethings in the media NEVER grew up in this city.
They walk on around Chicago and Hamlin and think it's "quaint" until they get a gun stuck in their ear.

Does anyone know how many times C.S. has gone on IOD? Reoccurring IOD? Medical? Now light duty. Maybe the department should only give us 5 days of medical per year and 365 days of IOD and then you don't get paid.
for years the news was calling some areas 'Humbolt Park" to avoid calling it the westside and then they started calling it "the northwest side" to avoid calling it Humbolt Park
I worked 014 and 015 then made it to 025 and Area 5. And that is when I was told it’s the Northwest Side……if you North of North Avenue. Who keeps moving this line south?
When is the fop going to file a grievance about the dept not following their own rules about approving or denying time off. I still haven’t heard back regarding time off for this weekend st Patrick’s parades. Per our contract they HAVE to approve or deny 7 days out. Still have heard nothing.

12 medical days per year like every other civilized department. But then the department would not be allowed to medical check us. Med checks is the reason we’re stuck with the 365, department loves the control. Don’t put anyone on the sheets Easter, 4th of July, Christmas, bud billikin… etc. everyone would call in sick from their vaca homes out of state.
I know a realtor who calls that area “Humboldt Heights” to get yuppies to buy rehabs in that area

People always took police and fire jobs for the retirement and steady employment. Back when people were asked”why they wanted the job” a truthful answer of I’m a hard worker; I have a family and I want steady employment and a pension got you hired. Being a cop is just a job, some are good a few are bad, some work hard, some don’t.

At the moment, this is one shitty job, not the work itself but the high liability for actually being a decent PO and wanting to arrest assholes. No other profession is as stressed out and beaten into submission as much as the police.
If I had to do an educated guess I would say he has spent 50-60 percent of his career on the medical, IOD or light duty.
I think in every district there are 1-3 officers like him. Just take a look at this blog. Some coppers openly brag about how they go on IOD or the medical all of the time.
Our medical and IOD benefits is really good. If you have a legitimate use then go ahead and use it. Don't abuse it.

Absolutely. The 78 neighborhoods the msm talks about nobody ever heard of. I grew up on the south side from 50s till 2000 when I hit the burbs. There were 4 or 5 distinct subdivisions in our little square mile. No one ever,ever used 4 of them, we called it all one name , same name as our shopping center. Also for all you heathen children of the corn, our hoods were usually called the parish name not the gubmint name. None of the yahoo's who pretend to be journolistas these days grew up here and have to Google the area. Really shows their lack of interest in doing their job properly.

I always felt the Northwest Side was just that…north and west. North of Grand, West of Cicero. It’s all the news sources though. I love seeing an incident at Western and Foster, for example, and they call it the NW Side. Like other commenters have said, these people didn’t grow up here.

A civil jury might just see it as someone just trying to get away, and officers firing into the car unjustifiably. The prevailing thought these days is to allow flight, and catch them later.

A few days ago, I caught wind of talk regarding the media redefining the definition of "Mass Shooting". The Journolisters and their political masters are attempting to try and define Mass Shootings by race, and carve off the average gang related shooting and save the Mass Shooting moniker exclusively for white perpetrators. The page I am looking at right now at Congress.gov cites Mother Jones magazine as already doing this and Congress itself is modeling their studies after Everytown For Gun Safety and Mother Jones studies as models for further definition of Mass Shootings.
I know the media has been trying to do this with mass shooters and often get called out on it. It seems now that there is real movement within government to define Mass Shooter as a white phenomenon.

I was having a discussion with non police family (left leaning) and brought up violence by race numbers. They’re counter argument was that most school shootings were committed by white people. Quick fact check revealed that most school shootings are committed by black Americans, although they happen on school grounds they become classified as gang related. Besides the point but the mass school shootings are done by (white) transgender individuals. Just goes to show how cherry picking and defining words changes the narrative.

It was not wanted by ISP for a shooting. ISP believed it may have matched the description of a vehicle wanted for shots fired. It was never confirmed. Believe me, the “it was wanted” will get torn up in civil court with just a few prodding questions making you look like a fool chasing without more info.
I had seen the garage burglar shooting referenced in above "more of this please" reported to have occurred in Bridgeport, 5100 Loomis???
