- Mayor Brandon Johnson on Wednesday once again defended his decision to disconnect the city’s gunfire detection network, claiming that a University of Chicago study found CPD responded “four times faster to the city’s most serious 911 calls” in some South and West Side neighborhoods after the city ended its relationship with ShotSpotter. But that is not what the study says.
And what does it actually show?
Robert Vargas, a sociology professor who leads the UChicago Justice Project, told CWB Chicago the study “was motivated by a specific set of claims made by elected officials that decommissioning ShotSpotter would have serious consequences for police response times.”
However, Vargas also acknowledged that before analyzing response times, his students removed all 911 calls involving shots fired from the city’s dataset. In other words, the study’s conclusions about faster response times, if accurate, did not include gunfire calls, the only type of emergency ShotSpotter was designed to address and the specific response times elected officials had been discussing.
They took out ALL of the gunfire calls? Seriously?
So this is yet another "Higher Education" bullshit program similar in nature to the crooked Northwestern "innocence" crap where they bribed convicts, lied under oath, slanted reporting, solicited perjury, aided and abetted by members of the Chicago media.
And the day before CWB had a little retrospective on fifteen years of wilding:

Well, as it turns out, it’s been happening a lot longer than even we remembered, stretching back at least 15 years across three mayors and eight police superintendents. Many of the 50-plus people arrested during this past weekend’s three mob-related incidents weren’t even born when it all started.
The problem, it seems, isn’t kids these days. The problem is a steady refusal by mayor after mayor to directly address what’s happening.
They recalled McCompStats lies about closing a beach because of "heat," attacks on bikers, the Mag Mile, Millennium Park....like we said, fifteen YEARS of mayhem, much of it covered in our archives.
Give them a visit and read the only decent crime reporting in Chicago any more.

The reason is the Democrat Party is so entrenched here the politicians know they don't have to answer to anyone as they know the voters here are so apathetic and some are downright stupid there will be no drive or crusade to question their incompetentcy and fraud. They have a lot of supporters and donors though, in the "pay to play" program. It's obvious the local news media goes along with their corruption. Mayor BLM Brandon lacks the ability to solve Chicago's embarrassing crime problems and was unable to manage even his own personal problems. One thing that is always constant, is the Democrats always stick together no matter how bad their ideas are. Just look at Joe Biden, he was senile and incompetent when he was running for President but the Democrats backed him. Don't expect anything new to happen except for new taxes.
Too bad we don't have a candidate like Spencer Pratt who is running against Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who let the city burn in the wildfires. She is just as dumb as Mayor Conehead.

Four Oak Park trustees rejected a motion that would’ve turned the cameras off for 90 days, shutting down the program outright

A kid who grew up in Oak Park was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in journalism for his work at the New York Times. Subject, Donald Trump. The writer is Ben Protess, son of David Protess who ran Northwestern U’s Innocence Project. In reporting the story in Oak Park’s Wednesday Journal the reporter writes a brief bio of David Protess with no mention that he was fired from Northwestern and the $40 million that was paid out Alstory Simon for his framing by the Project for a murder to get the murderer out of prison.

Lots of government to fund university studies with little or no results. Lots of government money wasted on academic brilliance with little or no results to better the lives of law abiding American citizens. How about advocating effective crime reduction strategies that actually work. One old fashioned program, affordable housing for convicts known as the penitentiary works every time time putting those recidivist in the pokey with truth in sentencing provisions. And progressive causes such as food sustenance, medical care, homelessness, democrat voter registration and assorted social service can be provided at little or no cost in the big house.

Who cares that ShotSpotter contract was cancelled? I do! I'm grateful, truly grateful. Think about it: how many "innocents" are picked up off the ground after responding to a spotter call? Now, you're sent to a job because of the technology you may have to provide first aid to "the victim". No ShotSpotter you just find ole boy laid out all kilted. No first aid required. "Cut the paper" and move on. No witnesses except the dude that called in the stiff and you're done. Besides culling the herd it reduces resources provided. I say: it's a beautiful world. The "study" also looked at the time period before September and the time period after...comparing the summer to the fall. You know fall, when call volume eases up and job are less likely to be stacked 3 and 5 deep, allowing you to get to each job in a more timely fashion. Hack job all around.

That's your problem. I am not CPD, but I have real life friends and former neighbors who are/were CPD. Most of them are retired now. I took my money and left. I live in NWI where our police beat if full of people from Chicago, Dolton, Sauk Village, Lynwood et al. They system is corrupted beyond repair. The only thing left is to crash it. My partners want to open a retail establishment in Chicago. I said "No". since I am 55% of the company, they have to follow my wishes. I love democracy.

Whenever someone comes up with a "study", the results should be reproducible with an independent analysis. If they're not, then it's total bullshit. BASIC Statistical Analysis... But yeah, if we're talking UC, then ignore their claims - they hired Bill Ayers, et. al so we know their biases.
From a research standpoint, it’s similar to studying whether eliminating fire alarms improved firefighter response times while excluding all fire-alarm-related calls from the analysis. You can learn something about overall resource allocation, but not necessarily about the effectiveness of the system you removed. Like Shot Spotter.
