Two months after a Chicago Sun-Times Watchdogs investigation revealed that Mayor Brandon Johnson’s city budget director Annette Guzman had taken illegal property tax breaks for five years, she’s paying back the rest of what she should have paid.
The Sun-Times reported in May that Guzman had taken property tax breaks she wasn’t entitled to for the past five years, saving her $3,432 in taxes on a South Loop condo she leases to tenants.
Annette Guzman got the approval she needed to claim those tax breaks from Cook County Assessor Fritz Kaegi, her former boss.
After being asked why he’d approved those tax breaks, Kaegi decided Guzman should pay up for only a portion of what she’d failed to pay: $2,071.29, covering only the past three years, out of the five years for which she’d gotten the illegal tax breaks.
Following the Sun-Times report, records show, Guzman made good on the rest of the property taxes that she should have been paying, the remaining two years. She sent Kaegi two checks on April 3 to cover the additional $1,360.80 she should have paid for 2020 and 2021.
Remember, this is Conehead's BUDGET DIRECTOR. The person in charge of determining how much money Conehead needs to run the city and how to gather that money from taxpayers - all while cheating taxpayers out of her portion of the tax burden.
This is how you can tell that Conehead probably doesn't have the backing of the Machine. At least not to the extent that they'd bury this story under normal circumstances.

She is probably the tip of the spear in scam on property taxes. Her misfortune she was exposed. His embarrassment that he approved the tax breaks knowing full well what he was doing and she doing was illegal. How many other connected city, county, and state workers are scamming taxes on property they own, with or without the knowledge of the assessor. These two should have resigned, but again it’s who you know. Conehead won’t demand resignations. A fine example of integrity and accountability. However, don’t you forget to turn the BWC on when suddenly confronted in a life and death incident out of the blue.

OT: Speaking of budgets….looks like the dept and new deputy will be dumping about 10-20 officers and Sgt’s from the academy and hiring civilians to teach recruits and officers for their cont ed and hand out gas masks. Can’t feel sorry for the 3-year wonders working as “instructors” but to see the ghetto civilians and DEI lawyers teaching police officers for the foreseeable future is cringe…and dangerous.

Since conehead has openly stated that he is not hiring white males in his administration that leaves him with a smaller hiring pool. I'm curious if one of conehead s kids was struck with a illness that required surgery would he choose a minority over a much more qualified surgeon who happened to be a white male? If he did then I'd give him credit for standing on his misplaced principles, but I suspect that wouldn't be the case. Kind of like the BLM founder who was buying mansions in lily white enclaves instead of living amongst her own racial group that she has "dedicated " her life to bring "justice " .

Elected officials in this area think the world is their own oyster. They dictate the rules and then break them while doing so. Pritzker was a perfect example during Covid. Lightfoot, and Brandon Dumbass administration learn from the worst.
I knew a copper that said he paid a parking ticket off and the city claimed he didn't pay. He refused to pay again. They tried to put the pressure on and he never paid. This went on for years. Eventually they just stopped asking him for the money.
