We hadn't heard of this survey before:
Americans have spoken out about which states they love to hate.
A ranking has named Illinois the most disliked state in the nation, with 25 percent of its own residents saying it is the worst place to live.
New Jersey landed in the number two spot, reinforcing its long-standing reputation as a frequent target of jokes across the country.
New York followed closely behind, with a significant portion of residents admitting they believe their own state ranks among the worst.
The World Population Review analyzed three key factors to determine which states inspire the strongest negative feelings: how many residents said their own state was the worst place to live, whether population numbers were shrinking and how frequently other states named them as their most disliked neighbor.
This isn't a US media source, but a United Kingdom paper.
But the population decrease is a dead-on indicator.

Left Illinois for Missouri over 5 years ago. Missouri has it's quirks, but also some good common sense. One example is a license plate for trailers. For $58.50 out the door you can get a permanent trailer plate. I asked a legislator why the bargain basement trailer fee? I mean, how many trailers are in the Ozarks? He said they figured if they made the plate cheap, people would have more money to spend in shops and restaurants. This thinking has escaped Illinois legislators.
Only 27% voted in the primary for Cook County President. 73% let 27% decide for them, that's the fault.
Politics is everything, they decide your life for you.
Illinois USED to be a great place to live and Chicago was great in the 80s-90s now its FUBAR and you can thank all the democrats and insane liberals for all the shit that we are in now. I miss the old days.

We need to remember that it was We the people that elected the toilet scum that runs this state and cities. Now they have gerrymandered the state so that they can keep themselves in power. It is going to take generations of will to fix this. Elect no one more than once. I don't care who they are. Judges that are elected should never be retained. Lets flush this toilet we are living in. (pun intended) Taxes need to be lowed. Fraud, abuse and waste need to be stopped. Do voters have the political will to solve this?

85-90% of Illinois is a good place to live. Cook County/Chicago democrats have ruined it for all. The controlling county voting 80%+ D all the time, everytime by the dumbest, most ill informed voters possible. There are less that a dozen counties out of 102 that consistently choose the D choice but Cook is the whale.

Illinois beat our family. We had to move because the house my grandfather built in 1946, was being tax assessed to high to afford. I miss my VFW, but that's about it. It doesn't pay to be solvent in Cook County.

Can someone explain to me (any of the unions ) if you stay til 55 and get the insurance - why we have to wait 6-10 weeks to get “a new insurance card (although it same insurance ) Because they have new group number ? So basically they are telling retirees to get all you appts in / prescriptions before you leave because basically you’ll have a problem if something unexpected happens between the time u retire and the time u get a new card ? Why can’t retirees just get a new card the day thy retire. ?

Yes, you're correct. Basically it takes about a month for your retirees health insurance to kick in. Stock up on meds, don't get sick or hit by a car. You're basically told to continue to see your doctor if necessary and payment will be made when the retiree policy kicks in. Present your insurance card as usual and if there are any issues try to explain to your medical people what's going on. Hopefully they know and have dealt with this before. And yes. You're absolutely correct. THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY.

The gerrymandering will only go away if the state legislature has the cojones to do redistricting, and a majority dem legislature won't. The Supremes may have said that any new redistricting can't be done solely along racial / ethnic lines, but they never said that districts that are already gerrymandered must be changed.
Interesting - the people living primarily in blue states hate living there. Michigan turned blue, thanks to the people who left Illinois to find greener pastures. Unfortunately, they brought their voting habits with them and destroyed the western part of the state (the eastern part - where Detroit, Flint and Saginaw are - was already trashed.)
