How Much Did Walgreens Lose?
Walgreens is shutting down their Chatham location and the "community" is upset. The aldercreature made one of the dumbest statements ever about "first degree corporate abandonment" which no one seems able to define.
Walgreens executives revealed at the town hall that the location lost over $1 million last year amid softening prescription sales and significant levels of theft, which resulted in the decision to close the store on June 4.
Johnson said that "theft at this store is 16%," which is "four times above the company average," which contributed to losses at the store.
The company said that it took measures to counteract theft at the store, but was unable to put an end to the issues at the location.
"Lock boxes help us protect the merchandise in the store. A lot of the time, those lock boxes were getting destroyed. And that's at a great cost to the company," said Walgreens district manager Jason Vasquez, according to Fox 32's report.
Here's an idea....someone notify Eric Holder (Sparklefart's Attorney General who said America wasn't ready to have a racial discussion) and see if he can chime in here:
- there are currently 14 black billionaires in the United States - successful business persons across a wide variety of fields - entertainment, media, information and infrastructure fields. They're also active philanthropists, giving back to society.
- there are hundreds more worth multiple millions, probably looking to make more as most successful people do. Eric Holder is worth $8 million on his own, Sparklefarts over $70 million.
- is there any reason they wouldn't invest in a Chatham pharmacy to prevent a pharmaceutical desert from devastating this "under-served" community?
Oh yeah....because they aren't in theo business of LOSING money, which is what would happen if they invested in Chatham.
Maybe the aldercreature could discuss that with Holder and Sparklefarts and a few of those billionaires.

It’s astonishing that the DemoRats in power and the community expect Walgreens to willingly lose money at that location. Walgreens did everything it could to remain open, but the DemoRats and the community failed to take responsibility and acknowledge that the atmosphere of theft is a result of their own actions or inaction. We can’t forget what two events contributed to the store’s closing, the Summer of Rioting and the Safe-T Act. The progressive agendas that keeps on stealing and stealing and stealing. On the other hand, the store’s closing will likely reduce theft activity for the District’s index.
Actually might work. Black investor conglomerate opens the store. Hires the Nation to do no-nonsense security, like if you grab a deodorant a bunch of dudes in bow ties make sure you rue the day. Word goes out that you better not sue them, or there will be more days to rue. Plus black judges won't let the lawsuit go anywhere, since Obama's Wingman stands to lose money.
It's the sort of thing that used to happen in white ethnic neighborhoods back in the day. The corruption was always based on keeping the ward a nice place to live. For a variety of reasons, black leaders lost that piece of the puzzle. CC, JSM

Oprah knew what was happening many years ago. She invested millions in the people here with jobs and opportunities, but even she with all her money, couldn’t buck the tide. And that is why she skedaddled out to never-never land and bought herself a huge estate, far away from what was happening here.
maybe aoc, with her business degrees, can explain to walgreens corporate that they are wrong to want to actually make money with their stores and that their main concern should be to just let the people walk in and take whatever they need to feed their family
I'm old enough to remember when Oprah Winfrey wanted to throw some money at Chicago's "underserved" public school kids. She decided instead to throw it to Africa, since the yutes in Chicago placed zero value on education and wanted her to spend the loot on Air Jordans and shiny jewelry. Since Dims are always looking for "root causes," they might want to look at the value system in the Chatham neighborhood before condemning Walgreen's for abandoning it as a losing proposition.

I got on in 86 sent to 002. There was a black owned drugstore named Alpars ( if I'm remembering the name correctly) on the corner of 35 and King, where Chase is now ( or where Chase used to be) . The few shoplifters you would get from there ALWAYS thanked you for getting them to lockup. SUPPOSEDLY there was a basement where they would be taken and tuned up by store security. Ass whippings were the rumor, don't know. Never asked. No bruises or blood. Just a rumor...none of them ever returned, hardly ever got jobs from there....

They can put a pharmacy right next to the grain chute at the Barack Presidential Silo.

Speaking of degrees, if the community actually had degrees from high school and college and held jobs, they wouldn’t be robbing and stealing from Walgreens.

It's hard to feel bad for some of these companies when their policies have been don't prosecute shoplifters. Some of these companies had these policies 20 years ago. What did they expect would happen if criminals knew they could steal without consequences.

Chas. Walgreen is rolling in his grave watching his family business get pilfered into disintegration. On top of that, the Dems blamed Walgreens for filling pain killer medication that led to addiction. The many shouldn't suffer because of the few.
I keep thinking about the good things Obama could have done with the dough he blew on the massive ugly tombstone he erected. A pharmacy would have proven useful. How about an industrial park with discounted leases to attract business and jobs to the southside. Maybe including a remedial learning center to correct the damage done to the 85% illiterate Chicagoans by the CPS and teachers union.

The city should put pharmacies inside the grocery stores they are going to own. Since it is never going to happen, they won't lose any money. Democrats can feel good about themselves and go to bed happy.
