Officer Attacked
A brutal attack with brass knuckles:
A Chicago police officer's family said he's lucky to be alive after he was attacked on Tuesday night in the McKinley Park neighborhood.
Officer Kevin Mangan has a long road ahead because of the injuries he suffered.
A man and a woman were in custody on Wednesday night, and charges were pending against them for beating Mangan so badly they knocked out his teeth. He'll be unable to chew solid food for months, and will be off the job even longer.
He was called to the scene of people blocking an ambulance and was blindsided by the attack.
Felony charges were inbound, but we don't know if the offenders were released by Lyke or Thedford yet.
How about some Civil Suits against these offenders along with the criminal proceedings?

I remember growing up in Chicago, you guys were pretty intimidating. I remember being warned as a kid not to let you see me again that night, I made sure you didn't. I remember 9/11, I had to go back into the city for work that night. I remember the cop kitty corner from the Sears Tower on Wacker, leather coat, night club, firearm, you look like you meant business. Now, I just don't see the same thing. It could just be me being older, but the clearest picture of an officer I have is a rather slovenly dressed, 150lbs kid on traffic detail on State Street. He looked like a dime store cop a stiff wind would blow over. I would love to see the intimidation back, not sure this weasel would have attacked the cops I remember as a kid.

I agree...this officer was spotted, weapons were drawn, approached and attacked by multiple offenders. Shooting would have been justified.

I'm glad to be retired for 5 years on my next anniversary date. Before I retired, I observed that many new officers were afraid to go "hands on." They even times made handcuffing subjects look painfully difficult! I blame the lawmakers and CPD Brass-holes for putting political optics before officer safety, by changing the rules of engagement, and making the trainees fearful of using force.
I acknowledge that I too became less proactive, once TRRs and BWCs became the norm. Luckily, I made Detective before BWCs were fully implemented in my District, so never used one. Same with the Taser. I refused to participate in the Taser certification. Every W/C would make threats to discipline me but would "get another bite at the merit apple" and move up and on, then their replacement would start the non-sense all over. It made no sense to me, as we didn't have them available in the D unit to check out anyways, even if I wanted to take one out. After, about 3 or 4 different W/Cs, I finally had one that was a prince of a guy, so I took the training out of respect for him. I retired shortly after.
I only carried my duty weapon, spare magazines, multiple pair of bracelets, OC spray, Wood baton, 4 D-Cell sized rechargeable Mag-light (I carried the aircraft aluminum mag on midnights before the ban) thanks to Comito and Thiel (sp), the poly stinger piece of crap went in the wastebasket when I made detective and I resumed using my Mag-light as a Detective. Oh, I almost forgot the most important piece of equipment...my God given Mitts "to keep it real!" lol

I hope this does not happen, but there is a possibility that this officer may have injury that may lead him to go on disability. If that is the case, please, please, don't use the FOP's useless attorney Ralph Licari represent you, he is a piece of shiet. The officer can get the 5k from the FOP so the officer can get his own attorney. The money will not be given to him directly, but his attorney will submit the proper paperwork. The FOP is useless at the end of the day, unless you are connected. Fack the department they are to be blamed.
One legal way to push back is saturate the entire area with traffic stops and Parker’s and tows. Any and all infractions enforced. Every rolled through stop sign get a ticket, tow every car in a marked row zone, if the sign says tow zone take the car. No matter whose it is. One foot over? Tow it. Get it on camera. Say nothing, just take their shit.
And make sure the hood knows who's responsible for the increase in enforcement. Maybe they will take corrective action and there will be no need for a trial.
