Another Good Court Decision?
Eight years after a viral video showed a woman shaking on the ground after being shoved by a Chicago cop during a post-Pride Parade confrontation in Lakeview, a federal appeals court has rejected the woman’s efforts to win damages from the officer and the city.
Breah Bedford argued that mistakes made during her civil trial unfairly influenced the jury, including testimony suggesting she might have faked her seizure-like episodes after the fall. But a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit ruled that the trial judge’s decisions did not justify ordering a new trial. COPA, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, cleared the cop in 2020.
Obviously, two good outcomes don't outweigh a couple decades of crooked court decisions abetted by incompetency at Corp Counsel and political collusion with plaintiff attorney firms....but one can always hope.
