Rahm Spins (Again)

Chicago is shrinking, so Rahm ignores US Census data and runs with.....a U-Haul report?
  • How sensitive was Mayor Rahm Emanuel last week to the news that his city is shrinking? Enough to turn to an unscientific study from U-Haul as a rebuttal to the U.S. Census Bureau report that found Chicago was the only major city in the country to lose population in 2016. The city also lost nearly double the number of residents as the year before.

To deflect attention, Emanuel released a statement lauding the U-Haul report that determined Chicago ranked No. 2 in the nation for one-way drop-offs of the company's trucks and trailers.
Even the Tribune notes that this is a silly yardstick for Rahm to use:
  • Let’s unpack that U-Haul "study."

The do-it-yourself moving company ranked its destination cities based on “the total number of one-way U-Haul truck rentals to a city in the past calendar year.” Chicago, the company said, ranked second, but it did not release how many rentals that ranking was based on. U-Haul did note that the number of rental drop-offs in Chicago had dropped nearly 6 percent compared with the year before.

But the U-Haul study did not analyze the number of one-way rental departures out of the city -- or how many people or families left town with a truck. U-Haul even included this disclaimer in its news release: “Destination cities do not account for departing traffic and thus do not necessarily reflect growth like U-Haul Growth Cities.”
Here's our take:
  • Those "one way" drop offs? Those are empty trucks coming back to town, because U-Haul is renting so many "Anywhere but Chicago" packages that they ran out of trucks, trailers, and vans to accommodate the outflow.
  • Though Chicago’s overall population fell for the third consecutive year in 2016, U.S. Census Bureau data shows new white residents are flocking to neighborhoods adjacent to downtown while black residents are fleeing some of the city’s most violent neighborhoods in droves.

“The decline in black population really accounts for a lot of the loss,” said Rob Paral, head of a Chicago-based demographic research and consulting firm. “The difference is that the white population is either growing or staying the same.”

Englewood, West Englewood and Austin were home to a combined 188,992 black residents in 2000. In 2015, those same three neighborhoods had 135,831 black residents — a 28 percent decrease — according to Census data.
Chicago is getting....whiter? Or perhaps a whitish-brownish shade? Rahm is accomplishing the rarest of spectacles in politics - destroying a democratic run city by driving out the core constituency of the democratic party. Even Daley I and Daley II didn't do that, mainly by buying off the black aldercreatures to keep peace. Rahm is truly an amazing politician.

And, what fun the suburbs and collar county communities are having with our fleeing people. You cannot blame them if they hate us even more than before the fleeing started. It used to be they would catch one of ours doing bad things while visiting or passing through, but now the previous Chicago residents have relocated permanently. Buh-bye and y'all don't come back now, ya hear!?

That's why Rahm desperately wants the
"Ciudad Santuario" of illegal (HERE IN THIS
COUNTRY UNLAWFULLY) immigrants to build a
new catered-to constituency to replace
the people who have fled Chicago.

Also, to prevent those who are left from
using the ballot box to take their city back.

Using a catered-to constituency as a political
weapon and firewall against upright, law-abiding
taxpayers ever being able to take their city back
is a vile and evil political gambit.

We're loving how Rahm's insulation is
burning off during re-entry...

Give this city another ten years and they won't know what happened.

I'm going no matter what. Just keep taxing, regulating, fees, high crime, and everyone will keep voting with their feet.

I'm tired of fighting at the Voting Both. I'm Retired else where. I will be well appreciated where I choose to move. You know we can still move from this communist city Mr. Mayor.

You see how skitish 9.5 is over population reduction and what myths he will provide. So FOP - if you are bold enough to have a vote of no confidence for the Mayor and Special Ed - don't you think that will spark a silly reaction? Just a rumor of a,pending vote will have him jogging with police recruits every morning with cameras in tow. We know his hubris is his ego - so go after it! Wish i could vote but the vote should be reserved for ACTIVE officers since they have the most to lose. And retirees voting could be brushed off as sour grapes over the health insurance issue. Give 9.5 a double kick in the balls!! And a big screw you to Deano!

Well paid corporate professionals use professional movers when they move, not U-Haul. The corporation pays for the move as part of the hiring package or relocation program. We do not use U-Haul. Who do you think is leaving Chicago? Gang bangers? Drug Dealers? NO! Professionals and People with Families are the one leaving.

Remember the block busting of the 1960's? Rahm and the Democrats are CITY BUSTING Chicago. Move over Detroit.

Rahm knows a lot about moving. He also knows a lot about residency. What he doesn't know jack about is how to make the residents happy. Everyone I know or come in contact with either is moving or wants to move. All my city worker friends say they are gone when they retire. I just made out my water bill. You would think we live in a desert. We have an ocean size lake. This is just criminal.

Any comments on this? Is the violence getting so deep and heavy that the blacks themselves want out? The sensible ones of course.

You can bet large money that those Austin and Englewood people that have moved out will still vote in the city and the "surberbs" they actually live in, I am still waiting for the Amish to develop large farms on grassy acreage left by the Robert Taylor,Ida B Wells, Rockwell gardens, Lake St5reet, Cabrini Green, Altgeld Gardens etc

Hard to believe that over 35,000 Peoples and Folks, are not going to stay and witness the Renaissance of Englewood that Rahm keeps promising. Also note, that for Rahm to have to reach out for a U-Haul figure to deny a Mass Exodus census figure is a real stretch. Since, a lot of those people leaving town do not have credit cards to rent U-Hauls, unless it's a stolen credit card. Baby "G"

Exactly, those leaving are law abiding tax payers. Rahm is hoping to get illegals to make up the difference. Because they snuck in, breaking the law, they are criminal in nature, and they won't pay taxes either. Good luck with that strategy.

If the people leaving are typically high-demand users of city resources but low tax payers, and the people moving in are the reverse (thing gentrification), then Count Rahmula is laughing up his tutu sleeve; this is exactly what he wants.

Of course, seeing as The Nine-Digit Midget could screw up the proverbial one-car funeral, this STILL won't turn out well.

Seriously, you think Census takers actually went into these neighborhoods and took an accurate count?
Back in the day, I once went into a 2 flat that held 3 generations of people......45 people in those apartments.....
Do you really think anyone truly gave a count of that?
Count the number of school children in public schools, count the number of people in a household on welfare, count the number of people
receiving SSI, count the jail/prison population, etc etc.....
When HALF (or more) of a city is on public money (that's you and me) no city or state can survive....
No matter how much spin 9 1/2 puts on it, this city is doomed!
But hey, that's the Democratic Way!

As I just read another story about a bust of a baker's dozen illegal aliens found win a U-HAUL truck, well, let's just say I found this article about rahm bragging about U-hauls quite, ummm, quaint.

Heck, as arrogant as Rahm is, he prolly had just read the same article I did and considers this release a node thumbing at Trump regarding Sanctuary City Policy (knowing full well he intends to count Illegals in the Census).

Untold FACT: Illegals are fleeing Arizona and Nevada, heading to the Welcoming Confines of Sanctuary City.
That doesn't even count the international refugees.
Free stuff for all those willing to endure crime and cold.

There are no jobs but they have plenty of Free Housing coming too - especially popping up quickly in the 45th Ward.
Rahm's unrelenting pandering quest for votes will reach far and wide (for instance: One Chicago Campaign).
Any mayoral challenger will have no problem causing another expensive run-off.

Wisconsin is looking to require drug tests for welfare recipients (and maybe even jobs) that will bring even more expatriates back.
With Illinois Democrats willing to increase personal income taxes, business taxes and eventually taxing pensions, more revenue is needed to pay for the rapid influx of freeloaders.

Get your finances in order and get out of this city, county or state before it's too late.

You know its bad when everyone starts moving. If they don't change policy soon it will continue. Before you know it they won't be able to stop it. People leave, jobs leave and than people leave. It's a cycle.

All created by bad policy. Lets just squeeze everyone dry. They are probably cooking up some new taxes for moving trucks. That way they can get your last cent.
