The death of Officer Luis Huesca took a hauntingly dark turn when it was revealed he had given a short video remembrance of his classmate and good friend, Officer Vásquez Lasso, who was killed in the Line of Duty just last year:
- Chicago Police Officer Luis Huesca was shot and killed while off duty, but in uniform, in the Southwest Side's Gage Park neighborhood early Sunday morning.
Officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert just before 3 a.m. After touring the area, officers drove to the 3100 block of West 56th Street, near Kedzie Avenue, where the off-duty officer was found outside with gunshot wounds, police said.
Just a year ago, Huesca eulogized one of his best friends – a fellow Chicago Police officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty.
It was just last year when Officer Huesca appeared in a tribute video for his good friend and colleague, Officer Andrés Mauricio Vásquez Lasso, who was shot and killed while responding to a domestic violence call on Spaulding Avenue near 53rd Street March 1, 2023.
"Whether it was it was at work or outside of work, he did take the time to help others," Huesca said of Vásquez Lasso in the tribute video, and "he's one of those guys who deserves that star. He was proud to wear this star."
The tribute video to Officer Vásquez Lasso now holds a while [sic] new meeting [sic] for those who knew both officers.
We see CBS's editors took the night off.....maybe they meant "...whole new meaning..."?
We also see it took Conehead the better part of a day to arrive back in the city from his suburban hideout and even longer to release a statement regarding the death of an Officer. It barely took him a news cycle to comment on the video of a dead shithead who shot another Officer. We guess when you prioritize the criminal over the cops, nothing should surprise us.

Both officers worked in 005. Arianna was murdered in May 2023 and Luis in April 2024- less than one full year. The fifth district is very much in shock.

Though, I'm sure another look is that he's on his way home and thusly not paid, meaning NOT qualified for line of duty death. Based on information so far, if might be line of duty. Officer was in uniform. If, in the middle of the encounter, he said "police", showed his uniform, or the offender saw his uniform, and then the officer took any kind of police action, it should be line of duty.

The pendulum is swinging. It has started to return to the right. The crime is becoming too much to tolerate. The daily anti semitic demonstrations will be met with arrests after the university presidents find their positions difficult to defend. They are not use to being challenged by off campus power. I lost a partner and friend on this job thirty years ago. The Bosses and Elected Officials of this City couldn't do enough for the family. THINGS HAVE CHANGED. On the way home isn't line of duty. However, if he did anything to try to stop these assholes, even just identifying himself as the police, it should be line of duty. I would hope the department does the right thing and assumes he took some police action, thereby putting him on duty at that time.

There's at least 7 medical abusers on each watch now (including some supervisors). Female officers will call in sick just to catch up on the latest show on Netflix.
My friend, simple situational awareness will tell you the CPD is being set up to take the blame for the chaos, embarrassment and property damage that will occur here during the convention. Simple common sense will tell you that you shouldn't trust overlords that hate you and see burying another police officer as a cheap alternative to paying out in a ghetto lottery. Most experienced officers want no part of this upcoming convention. "Illegal"...you're a real hoot.

Don’t forget how many coppers that left the department went to other places found out they had accountability and get this maximum of 10 sick days a year and now we have over 200 begging to get back on the job with Chicago. Simple Chicago is better because you don’t have to be accountable. Take off when you want and the medical is phenomenal, why are you go anywhere else where you really have to work and where you have supervisors that are taking the job seriously. We have a bloated exempt staff look how many gold stars are running around with nothing to do just getting that big salary and then they will steal the big pension , simple as that protect each other, protect the homeland at other things let it go.

Texas, Arizona and Tennessee will be Democrat blue states in 10 years. Their cities continue to fill up with police-haters. The murder of this young officer was met with collective shrugs. I've received more sympathetic messages from police depts in Idaho and Indiana than I have from people in my neighborhood or on the beat.
