Nice Fire Truck Conehead

So not only are firehouses in Englewood operating without any....fire trucks....the ones that are serving Chicago, aren't being maintained very well:

No idea what the CFD budget looks like for maintenance, but we're sure Conehead spent it on illegal Venezuelans or hair gel. Hopefully, they don't try to blame the driver for the equipment they give him to drive.

We aren't sure of the technical terms, but the entire wheel hub (?) rusted through so the lug nuts and bolt disc (?) remained on the truck while the tire went on it's merry way smashing into parked cars.

This is a Tower Ladder, one of maybe six in the entire city, so if you're in anything taller than three stories, your life just got a little more statistically dangerous.

Had the experience! Was working in 024 and just picked up the Fld. Lt. who wanted to take a ride. While in the lot, an in progress call in the area of Pratt & Ridge came over. The Lt said take that in. Pulled out of the lot and got half way down Schreiber when the squad came to an abrupt halt flinging us forward, almost through the windshield. The Lt said what the F did you hit? We got out of the car to see the rf tire sailing w/b on Schreiber!! We checked the lot & street, no potholes or items hit. If we went to that in progress call we would have been flying up Ridge and probably be really injured as in those days nobody used seat belts. The wheel and brake drum just broke off of the axle. I had been driving this squad all day, and there was no front noise at any time to indicate any front end problems. I am glad I wasn’t on LSD or an expressway. Be careful & stay safe.

We need a forensic audit to see how much money is being blown on taking care of migrants who nobody wants here except for Democrats who brought them here to change the elections so the Democrats will always win every election. Also all the useless social programs that target certain groups or causes in order to buy votes.

The ladder does not work any longer on those units anyway, just transport for members to get from place to place. A pitiful shame.

The owner of the parked car will wait at least a year to get reimbursed from the city and the city won't even pay the whole amount. The city doesn't even care about the safety of its employees. Chicago is a disaster.

Tower ladders are huge. They are specifically made to reach tall buildings and deliver an elevated master stream (high volume of water) from a point of vantage. Rather than maintain this piece of equipment for what it was BUILT for, the city made the decision decades ago to run them around the streets on ambulance assist runs like any other piece of equipment.

Side note:
The city is rolling us into a new technology called ZeroEyes. It’s an AI program on our PODs that detects firearms displayed on the public way. It’s live in a few pilot program districts. We should find out how much the city is spending on this and whose connected family member or retired boss is working for them.

Don’t they wash their equipment daily to prevent rusting? I’m on the Board of a volunteer fire department and our guys maintain the equipment religiously. We just bought a pumper truck and it cost $800,000! A ladder truck is $1,500,000. How old is the equipment there? Doesn’t the state of Illinois have laws about how old those trucks can be? The state of NC certainly does.

It was not lug nuts that came off.It was corrosion that caused metal fatique that caused it to fracture or just long term metal stress.Old rig that met exceeded the life span from overuse. The city is reactive, not proactive.Bring in more migrants and take care of them. How has that been working?

Not true. If the ladder is not in service the rig is not in service. Turns out that while fire and police don't have a hiring freeze and still get overtime, 2FM is down to two shifts and no overtime so not enough work is getting done.
