but downstate lawman here. The other day we had a pursuit with two
misunderstood Chicago youth using a stolen prescription pad to get
opioids. Long story short, after they were apprehended they told us
they were being coached in Chicago that it is ILLEGAL for the police to
chase them so they ALWAYS run from the cops. They legit couldn’t
understand us chasing them. And, fun fact, ISP couldn’t join the
pursuit.
Thanks again, Chicago/Springfield, and fuck the SAFE-t act!
We said this years ago, not only for the "No Chase" policy, but for any bad behavior - if you reward it, you'll get more of it....and the reward could be as little as zero consequences for misbehavior.
Primary example - Crimesha's non-prosecution of all sorts of misdemeanors led to a skyrocketing shoplifting, theft, public morals charges of all sorts, and traffic violations through the roof.

Can some explain to me why anyone can sue a defective product that causes any harm to any person in America? But when you have defective laws like the safety act, there is no civil action against the State?
The fallen officers family needs to file the wrongful death law suit against the State of Illinois, the county where the shooter was arrested prior and released and then the City of Chicago for teaching their officers the bad practice of deescalation in and during a Felony stop? If you read the current standings, each of these entities are culpable in the death of the fallen officer?
Officers are being told to “not demonize these youths” and do not draw their weapon unless an offenders weapon is visible? These departments or city opinions are killing officers? And there must be justice and punishment with compensation from the offender with the gun and the foolish elected officials that fail to care for these officers?
We now fail to chase an offender because of the responsibility it places on the officers if the chase causes someone else to be harmed?
You cannot be a Law enforcement officer and perform your duty with expectation of being fired or death due to some rule or regulation written in an office by someone who has never performed a felony stop on a subject armed with a gun?
If the elected officials that make these laws and rules cause the death of an officer! Let’s drag them into a criminal of civil court? Let’s see how they feel having the dead officers family sitting there and watch them squirm during questioning?
Now they will face real law.

The state has immunity and can’t be sued, however from watching the video, it seems to me that the officers should have shot this guy long before he got his gun out and got on target. Why did he wait? My generation of cops were trained to not wait until the bad guy has you in his sights before you fire. But I’ve learned that CPD requires that you be trained in de-escalation, which may have been the reason we hear the officer begging this guy to stop. The officer was trained by the department in de-escalation and not self preservation. Who designed the. De-escalation curriculum? I think your training is defective and the entities that should be sued are the department and the developer of the de-escalation training curriculum. It is the department’s that is responsible for this officer’s death.
At least someone is doing his job.

Last Tuesday, the taxpayers of Champaign County were asked to fund a quarter cent sales tax increase to pay for the now missing revenue. Another downstate reader here....When the Safe-T act when into affect, our county's states attorney said it would be more paperwork, but they'd hang onto every bad guy they could instead of cutting them loose. Pretty sure they Chief Judge of the criminal court is on board as well.
This is a pretty big county here population wise. And things are still pretty calm. No coincidence, I'm sure.

You were never the police. Police officers are front line responders, think infantrymen in a warzone. Your job title as a FED involves completing paperwork in a controlled office enviornment, think POG(personnel other than grunts) in warzones.
