- Police are investigating after a man was found fatally shot in an alley in the Roseland neighborhood early on New Year’s Day. Dispatchers received no calls of shots fired before the man was discovered in the 9400 block of South Harvard. The city’s ShotSpotter network monitored the area before Mayor Brandon Johnson deactivated the system on September 23.
CPD provided little information about what happened to the 29-year-old man, other than he was found with two gunshot wounds around 3:30 a.m. Bystanders tried to save the man by administering CPR, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
So Chicago is already on pace for three-hundred-sixty-five murders this year, unless something else happens:
- One person died after a shooting and robbery Wednesday at a liquor store on the South Side. The shooting happened around 12:31 p.m. in the 7500 block of South Racine in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood, police said.
According to Chicago police, a man was inside a liquor store along 75th and Racine when two suspects walked in and attempted to rob him. One of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot him twice. The 51-year-old victim was shot in the chest and the leg, police said. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, but he later died.
Well, that makes the projected yearly total for 2025 seven-hundred-thirty now.
