- Taking effect in the New Year, the City of Chicago will install $2.5 million worth of speed cameras to ticket drivers.
The Johnson administration has yet to release details on where the cameras will go or how many exactly will be added to the more than 100 already active.
The cameras are estimated to raise about $11 million to pay for Chicago Police Department positions related to the federal consent decree.
The cameras will issue $35 tickets to drivers going between six and 10 mph over the speed limit and $100 tickets for drivers going even faster.
So, another reason for people to heap hate on the police department.

The City wants to lower the speed limit to 25mph at a cost of 2.5 million for 10,000 new signs (that the city says, of course in the end it will cost more.).
Hopefully the Trump Administration will eliminate these insane, useless consent decrees. Then they won’t have to buy more speed cameras. An end to the Democrat nanny State! In both cases it’s more money for the connected vendors who then donate to the Democrats.

He said it was based on anecdotal accounts. meaning not necissarily true or reliable, because based on personal accounts rather than facts or research. I retired this year and the city sticker on my truck expired after retirement and I decided to no longer purchase a city sticker and I didn't. I no longer park at the station so no inspector issue there, I don't shop or eat in the city and haven't the last 15 years and I have a driveway so I don't park in the street. Same applies with wife's vehicle. Find ways to stick it back to the city.
Folks are gonna really start driving their cars without plates. Conversely some enterprising lad, with a 3D printer, could duplicate a plate belonging to.?.?.?.?.and sell them on the street. It would be interesting to see how that gets sorted out.
This will not affect me…cause I moved the hell out of Illinois and have begun to enjoy life once again!

Virtually all reckless drivers who end up killing people are in some arrestable violation before speeding. They are worried about speed cameras like a chainsaw is worried about twigs. These cameras will only harass tax paying citizens who are late to work because of the insanely long travel times, thanks to illegitimate drivers and cars causing mayhem.

When Trump won in 2016 he DID end the consent decree. Unfortunately, idiot mayor Rahm Emmanuel felt it was necessary to have it anyway so he implemented it with the Illinois AG. There is nothing Trump can do about it. But, since the implementation, several well connected people have gotten rich "implementing" the decree and yet we have NEVER been near compliance.
When I turn on my car, my LCD display automatically syncs with my phone and Waze is automatically turned on my LCD. It's great. Always telling me where every camera is and when I should slow down.
The Chicago "consent decree" is not from the DOJ. It is from Little Lisa and the city (Rahm) rolled over to accept the terms in federal court. It isn't going anywhere.

And, Now, the state is going to line the x-ways for 2 miles on both sides of Ohare airport to send citations for $100 to anyone who parks on the side of the road. Unless you have not picked someone up at the airport in the past two years, you would not know that the cell phone lot is the size of a postage stamp and always full. That is why people are parking on the side of the road waiting for someone on a flight. They can't solve the real problem by building a large enough parking lot, but they sure can spend a lot of money installing cameras to take more of your money. Then of course, they will have to hire people to monitor those cameras and send out the citations. Then, there will be hearing officers.
Active warrants do not fall under any kind of discretion, regardless of time or age of offender. The name was ran either over the air, or on the PDT. Good luck explaining why you did not process it if questioned. Let the Judge use their discretion.

Well, he probably won't initiate any new ones. But a judge has to agree to dismiss any current decrees. And none of that would help Chicago anyway, since it was the state AG that sued (without standing at the time, which the City didn't challenge), not the DOJ (DOJ is not a party to the Chicago decree).
Put speeding cameras on the Dan Ryan and all of the public pension funds would be fully funded within the year. Speeding cameras on the freeways are common in Western Europe and the fine starts at $300 Euros.

These cameras are about $10,000 all-in, installed. Camera, power, network, signage, labor.
So for $2,500,000 you're getting 250 cameras to distribute around the Shitty.
The standard contract for each of them generally requires that the City pay $5,000/month/camera to the company that installed them. Anything above and beyond that is the City's. If we assume $100 tickets because Chicago Drivers drive like Chicago Drivers, we're at 50 tickets/month/camera just to extract $5,000/month/camera from the drivers.
600 tickets/year/camera or 150,000/tickets/year in total - just to break even. So they need $15,000,000/year to keep even.
They want to make $11,000,000 in revenue, so that's another 110,000 $100 tickets/year, or approximately another 9167 tickets/month. Approximately another 37 tickets/camera/month to get that $11 million out of the drivers.
Odds are great that these scheister politicians will enforce this crap vigorously, and if you're going 0.1 MPH over, you're getting the ticket.
The North Shore J/O's up in Highland Park used to have a Red Light Cash Cow camera on 41/Park Ave West - saw an 80 yr old lady get a ticket enforced because she was 1' over the stop line heading westbound, no crosswalk, no pedestrians, and still 3' or more before poking her car out into northbound traffic - so ZERO risk to anyone. But the City had to make their nut for that camera, so they stuck it to her... Even when rear end collisions increased, skid marks all over from people slamming on the brakes to avoid being tagged by the Cash Cow... They didn't pull it out until COVID royally put the brakes (pun intended) on the whole scam and the City had to pay out of pocket due to reduced traffic and ticket counts - so they removed the camera, lengthened the yellow to where it should have always been, and added one second with all red for intersection clearance...
So yeah, about those cameras:
* Where are they getting installed, exactly? Because if past analysis has shown anything, it's that the City avoids the Souf and West sides... The vast majority go into the North Sides.
* Maybe it's time for a pre-emptive lawsuit alleging systemic racism against the North Side by overloading the camera placements there?
* Maybe we can claim the North Side has been marginalized to make it so the South and West sides have fewer cameras?
* Maybe we can claim reverse racism against white people because of camera placement?
Lots of possibilities, by using the bullshit arguments the Democrats have used against the rest of us for decades...
