Damn! It was hot!
Any word from the streets about how "Lollapalooza" went? Hopefully, it was too hot for anyone to seriously misbehave, but it also was too damn hot to be one of the poor coppers out there keeping an eye on things.

OK kids, now listen to the Old Veteran. Here’s a way to stay cool when you are out on a detail like that, or working a beat car on a 110+ heat index day, or even working around the house. Go to your local hardware or department store and buy yourself a flexible six-pack cooler and 8-10 small flexible gel ice packs. Clear some space in your home freezer, put the gel-packs in the cooler and the cooler in the freezer overnight. When you go to work, throw in a couple of wash cloths and some chilled water bottles.
Now as weird as this sounds and looks, this does work! When you hit the street, wrap a cold gel-pack in the wash cloth and put it over your heart under your body armor. Now your heart is acting like a radiator and pumping cooled blood around. After an hour or so, change gel-packs. If need be, you can put one of those wrapped packs in your round crown uniform cap. You’ll be out there cool as if you had ice water in your veins while everyone else is melting..
Now I can’t be sure what would happen if you had a bleeding injury and a ruptured gel-pack. But, if this keeps you wearing your body armor and avoiding heat stroke it’s probably worth the risk.
Remember to do all the other things to keep you healthy. Drink lots of water and/or sports drinks. Avoid alcohol and wear sun-block. And remember to be cool and act cool, don’t let the shitty weather, the shit and the shitters on the street get you down.
i had the weekend off and went to the show. i thought that is was run pretty well. usually something like that in this city on a hot day spells disaster, but it was pretty good.... of course i was dehydrated and drank a million beers, so my perception may have been a little off
