Democrats Against Reform

You need ID to buy liquor. You need ID to cash a check. You need ID conduct all sorts of business these days. So why are members of the democratic party AGAINST having to show ID in order to vote? Isn't voting among THE most important undertakings a citizen will ever undertake? The states are even proposing to waive the usual fee for indigent citizens to get ID- IT'S FREE!!

This is especially troubling in light of the recent revelations in New Jersey of 6,500 people voting twice and OVER 4,700 PROVABLE INSTANCES of dead people voting. And the recent Washington state governor's election where King County kept finding ballots until a democrat won. Not to mention the completely insane voting practices in Wisconsin where 1,200 votes came FROM A SINGLE ADDRESS and a couple of thousand felons voted! Chicago pioneered the practice of "vote early - vote often" and refined the recruitment of the "zombie voting bloc," but in light of modern technology reducing the possibility of fraud and in the new reality of a post 9/11 world, presenting a valid ID to vote seems like a logical next step.

We guess the democrats can't win on ideas, political philosophy or ability anymore, so they better steal their way to office as long as they can.

The Democrats are the champions of Illegal Aliens. They can get them to vote, as you do not even need IDs to register in Cook County.

this is in response to post 4:22 am. If you are going to give an opinion that's fine , because it's like they say, opinions are like assholes, everbody got one , some are big some are small. If you wish to comment on the 2000 election based on facts and existing federal election law a nd local election law that's another thing. I suggest that you review the FACTS and LAW w/ regard to federal elections and local elections and the various seperate county election boards and their policy with regard to conducting elections both on a local and National level. After YOU learn the facts and have a rudimentary knowledge about the aforementioned topics YOU will then understand why the US Supreme court did what they did and why they did it.

P.S. 120,000 votes in COOK COUNTY were thown out or "spoiled" in the 2000 election. What say YOU about That?

I say "EASY, oh Spoiled Ballot Breath- take a pill!" ;-)

In all seriousness, consider this info snippet (which indeed encapulates some of your factoids...)

"...A Harvard University study (just one of many) published this summer (2004) shows that Florida was responsible for nearly 8 percent of the nation’s spoiled ballots in 2000.

But the problems were not limited to swing states. Illinois tossed more spoiled ballots than any other state. And the Harvard study shows a disproportional number of uncounted votes in counties with large minority populations, a statistic illustrated by Illinois.

In 2000, this state threw out 190,000 votes, or about 9,000 more than Florida. There was no uproar, though, as Al Gore won Illinois, a Democratic stronghold, by three times the number of spoiled votes. (a 670,000 cushion- nothing even remotely comparable margin-wise to the Florida 2000 theft debacle!- Vike.)

But in Cook County, where minorities make up nearly half the population, 120,000 votes went uncounted, an error rate of 6 percent. Consequently, the American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois filed a lawsuit, alleging that the discrepancies were dramatically higher in precincts with a majority of minority voters. The ACLU won the suit, forcing future ballot reforms, but punch cards will still be used in November. Cook County voters can, however, check for over- or under-votes using ballot counters implemented in 2002.

(from a pre-Nov 2004 election web article "The gap in presidential preference is so slight uncounted votes could decide the contest" by Pat Guinane )
