Seems the "Pinky-bandit" turned himself in to Channel 5 news crews today. Guess he was smarter than he looked. Personally, we are extremely disappointed. Sun-Times link here.
Also in the news, one of the suspects in the carjacking/kidnapping was recognized by his own grandmother, who confronted him and made him turn himself in. He has since flipped on his accomplice, who is also in custody. It's always a relief to see the older generation turning on the youngsters when they do wrong instead of covering up or excusing the behavior.
A belated Happy Birthday to the United States Marine Corps. Two hundred thirty years young. And a Happy Veteran's Day to everyone. One of the reasons we're allowed to run a blog like this is because of Veterans. So if you like freedom of speech, assembly, the option of worshipping your god, not worshipping at all, and living in the most prosperous country on earth that is the envy of all, thank a Veteran.

The reason why the family members turned the offenders in because Area One Personnel discovered the offenders identity and and after numerous and numerous visits the family got tired of the pressure and made the offenders turn themselves in. The offenders were identified by good ol police work and we forced the issue....smart ass

I'm an Illinois State Trooper. I conceive the family did turn in their family members alleged (offenders). ol police work no, more like threaten,hassle,coerce.what about professional police work sound familiar: search warrant,offender named warrant,leads teletype.

Only happens when the offender has fled the jurisdiction. It sure looks good though to see 5 or 6 of you processing a UUW in 011. LEADS teletype; for what? Ha! Ha! Why would I send a LEADS message to the next district or area. How come I never see you guys writing tickets between Damen & Austin on the Ike? Stick to writing tickets on the working man. You are correct. They CPD has ruined any officer from working in a "real" police department. The real police act with professionalism, are well dressed (no base caps or three stooges ties), and is employed by a department that fires incompetent and vile workers. The shit the CPD pull that results in a 5-day suspension would mean termination in any other department. A 30 day suspension in Chicago would be equivalent to an indictment anywhere else.

You stand by Integrity so much that a LT. that conducts homicide investigations (Obviously, they can't trust just an ordinary trooper with such a task) has to sue the ISP because they tried to influence his Homicide Investigation because the target was politically connected.
He then gets transferred out of investigations back to patrol.

I guess I can now paint your whole department with a broad brush and say that if a homicide involves the politically connected, you all will just transfer the Investigator out of Investigations back to patrol to influence the outcome.

Its very very easy to avoid any sort of criticism or controversy when you do not make ANY arrests that involve long prison terms or the Death Penalty.
People who do not make arrests usually do not get any complaints.
That being said, the more high profile cases you arrest people for the more controversy and criticism will be created because we have an adversarial criminal justice system.
Think about that one. When most of your arrest activity consists of Traffic Tickets, Misdemeanors, and Cases stemming from Traffic, the controversy is usually not there.
When you arrest someone for murder after the fact, there tends to be a lot more controversy involved because that is the Defense's Job.
So keep writing those tickets and handling those traffic crashes and everyone will think you are just the pinacle of professionalism.
Every suburb that has had any real high profile cases has been the brunt of criticism at one time or another.
We are big so we seem to get more of our share of criticism. If you had as many officers as CPD and made as many arrests as CPD you would be subject to the same criticism.
Look at any large urban department and you will find the same criticisms.
ISP guy still never answered my question about his qualifications. I wasn't knocking your gig line, I am awed by it. Too bad Alton Coleman never saw it. He probably would have confessed to everything.
One can only wonder how many other ISP homicide investigations went nowhere because the target had some political pull.
We may have only heard of this one but thanks to the courage of this ISP Lt., we now now that this does in fact occur in the ISP.
How many other investigations have been compromised and other Investigators have backed off rather than face the wrath of their bosses?

I will admit, I have turned into a check collector. And I will remain this way untill CPD returns to what was once a Police Department.
I have moved on and if CPD never catches up, I still collect a pension with no stomach ulcers. My life and family mean more to me.

Isp was a great and large department, remember when they were all like 6'2 and like 200 pounds? ISP never do anything on ther own, always in a task force with one or two guys. Their guys never know anything about police work, always want to be in charge but dont know how, their great followers. Always have someone else do the hard work and try to take the credit. Don't play well with others, always crying when they don't get their way (which is usually wrong). Don't have detectives, just a couple of bad drunks. Big problem with the sexual orientation of most of their female officers.

Enough already! We and the ISP can bash each other from here to eternity. They have their job,we have ours. Each one is important. We as Police Officers have many enemies and too few friends. The last thing we should be doing is arguing amongst ourselves! As amember of CPD(Which i'm damn proud to be a prt of!)My encounters with the ISP have always been pleasant and professional.And when dealing with them,I always try to show them the same courtesy.Let's face it,the Police is the Police.And if we hear them hollar for help we're all gonna roll sirens & lights blazing because the Police needs help.No P.O.worth anything would turn his back on another copper no matter who he/she is.

As a Viet Nam veteran, anyone who knows me knows that I would never condemn any other serviceman. I was downtown on Friday at the ceremony for the memorial for Viet Nam veterans reading the names of guys who did not return. I didn't see the phony author there.
This obvious non-veteran probably couldn't even spell SEMPER FI! The only good thing he wrote was happy birthday to the Marines.
