No News ISN'T Good News

Who has the latest homicide numbers? Because we noticed at least 3 homicides listed in the metro section of the times and all that talk about how good we were doing keeping the rate of killings down seems to have disappeared.

And everyone knows that when the bosses stop talking about what a great job we are doing, there's a problem.

When it comes to the "numbers" you have to be careful because there is no truth.

It's all about classification of incidents, and cases are mis-classified on purpose all the time to protect districts, units, heck -the whole police department.

When was the last time a true audit was conducted? I have the answer for you...it was never done and won't be because the truth would be bad.

Now I'll have to get in the argument(again)with the Dick who told me I wasn't told to reclassify a woman found with her pants around her ankles and a brick in her head as a death investigation. Silly me had pulled a 0110.We magically kept the homicides under 600 that year (599!).

I think it was about 1979 when the City was hit with multiple Investigtions revealing the declassification of index crimes. It wasn't just Homicides, mostly all part one crimes were changed in order to give each district/area a more favorable appearance.......It took about four months and it was back to the same old undercounting. "The more things changes, the more they remain the same"

I remember in 79 my district had 4 sectors with a rolling squadroll in each one.

The bean counters reduced the district to 3 sectors, left one wagon, re-aligned beats...

They can't have it all ways. Increases in crime require increases in manpower and equipment
and every year we, the police, lose more. Every year we, the police, absorb additional responsibilities as well as come under the media guns.

The more things change the more the always shall remain the same...
except for the poor working beat guys. It seems to get worse for them every year.

Let's bean count in reverse:
Less manned two car units per watch.
Less response capability.
Less administrative support.
More guns & ammo on streets.
More Agg Batts to P.O.s.
More Gangs & bangers.
Less experience etc. etc.

Figures shall always belie the facts,
and liars shall always figure a way to cover their asses.

Is someone on crack?!! Do you really think that those in the Detective Division are going to hang themselves by covering up Homicides? You need to come upstairs once in a while and read a couple of files: Raed a Death Investigation and Homicide and you'll be able to figure out the difference.

You're using The CCME's office as a source. Ha! Ha! You think this job is filled with political hacks? Try the M.E.'s office. You think Stroger is legit? I handle at least 2 to 3 homicide scenes a month. Some months many more. I haven't had an investigator come to a scene in two years. When they do its just to take a Polaroid for the doctor. In the last 2 years I've had a guy who fell down and fatally banged his head while running from the police; a guy who popped about ten Tylenol PM's, fell asleep outside, and died from hypothermia; and a guy who choked to death on a straw running from the police. All ruled homicides by the CCME. They named police officers as offenders in two of them. These fools are your source for police cover-up of homicides? Which former CDR of 015 and Pacman's infamous crew now runs the CCME's Investigators Office? You're a complete fucking idiot with no clue. I bet you couldn't find your dick while pissing. I hope you didn't take the Det. test.

A detectives job is to build a case and charge the offender. If a tact guy goes out and arrests the offender when the case is ready to go, that's great. But there's a lot more too it than making an arrest. Shut up when you don't know what you're talking about. You just make yourself sound stupid and bitter.

Of course, if you did well on the test you can come to A/4 and show us how its done. I'll be waiting in deep anticipation.

The men & women riding in those disrict beat cars are the backbone of this department. They don't have the luxury of doing their own thing and they are tied to that radio. They handle every shit job that comes along. You're Carhart jacket and carpenter jeans don't make you any better than them. It would do a lot of some good to go back and spend a period a year in a beat car.

Yes the same O'Sheids that was barred from the Federal building when he was a boss. The same O'Sheids that the G would not allow to participate in or have any knowledge of federal narcotics investigations when he was the commander of 015. The same O'Sheilds that put Pacman on a team right off probation. The same O'Sheilds that had that team working basically as his personal tact team. The same O'Sheilds they let run out the back door when the G came down in 015. The same O'Sheilds that went on to run CHA police, where they found hundreds of thousands of dollars in Fed money unaccounted for when it was dissolved. But he must be legit, because some snot nose is holding him up as a source of CPD homicide cover-ups.

FWIW, his son was also arrested, and I believe convicted, while he was a boss in Chicago. Something about stolen cell phones or phone cards or something.

hsi son was arrested on an overpass over the expressway some years ago. He was standing there with a cooler and inside the cooler was the equipment used to intercept the ESN (electronic serial numbers) of cell phones. With these ESN numbers you could make "clone phones". I believe he also had a few clone phones on him when he was arrested.

Tact & Gang teams are STILL patrol, only that it is civilian dress. It kills me when I meet one of these clowns from the soft districts and they say: "I'm from 020th district Tact," like it's some separate entity.

Of course there are eager policemen in the teams, but go over to the working districts and you'll find awesome coppers on the watch and in the tact teams. And guess what? There are some scared pussies on the watch AND the tact/gang teams.

Phil,

If the homicide rate isn't dropping dramatically like you planned, can we have the officer's from the districts we live in back?

You can't change cultures, you can't stop the gang bangers because of the drug money, but you can be fair to the rest of the city. We deserve the same police presence the violent districts have. I pay alot of money to live Northwest and I really want the neighborhood to remain a good place to live and raise my children. Please don't let ego affect my well being.

I have a group of officers who live on my block and we keep an eye on the surrounding blocks because you send our district officers out, and we know how under-manned 016 is. I would rather go home after my tour and relax and feel protected, I think we deserve it.

I know we are the police 24-7, but what's fair is fair.
