What is the purpose of this thread? To let police know there is a loophole in taking illegal drugs? Scc, I guess you would not find this subject so humorous if you lost someone to a dope head who was driving high on ecstasy like I did. It is a horrible drug and you should make sure you and your family stays away from. No matter if you are tested for it or not.
Do they test for booze? If so, I have some 200-proof urine for them.

I've seeen the criticism he makes at the city & union & dept is sometimes constructive in nature, so maybe h ethinks publicity will change things?

Just so you know:
X may not show up on the basic, "random" test, but it can be tested for if there is "cause". In other words, if someone beefs that you took it, the drug testing unit would just specifically ask for that to be tested for, same as steroids.
Crash in 019. PO charged with DUI. PPO ejected through windshield, possibly paralized. Inventoried airbags for BIO evendence. Happened around 0220 hrs.

You can't test specifically for "x". But if you take it, it will show up as heroin on a drug test.

The department needs to address the alcohol problem, mainly to the recruits before they get out. I know a lot of coppers who never had an alcohol problem before getting on this job. In fact, I am willing to bet the majority of the guys with the drinking problems never had them before they got on this job.
I enjoy partying as much as everyone else. I just make sure I, and everyone else, ends up alive at the end of the night.

For the guy who asked about steroid testing:
The Department doesn't include steroid tests unless there is "cause", or a complaint specific to steroid use against the officer. A steroid test takes roughly 10 days, costs $500 and tests for close to 300 different metabolites, including masking agents. Even then, Quest Diagnostics are not up to Olympic standards, and a person who knows the ins and outs of steroids could still pass the test from the Department.
Twice recently guys who were defintiely using 'roids pissed clean, but there is nothing that can be done about it for now.
As for the coward calling out Radke lately: He's a great boss. Period. Sounds like the drinking is YOUR problem.

CHICAGO -- With less than two weeks to sign up for the Chicago Police Department's employment test, Hispanic aldermen are urging minorities to apply before the Jan. 9 deadline.
Nearly 4,000 people have signed up for the exam, but police officials could not say how many are minorities. Police Supt. Philip Cline has said the number of applicants had fallen from last year, when there were 5,242. Of those, 4,165 took the test.
Alds. Manny Flores (1st), Billy Ocasio (26th), Ariel Reboyras (30th), Ray Suarez (31st) and Rey Colon (35th) all urged minorities to apply in greater numbers.
"We are way behind in [minority] representation in the Police Department," Colon said. "We are here as a unified force to remind our Latino and communities of color to apply for the police exam."
The Police Department has 7,382 white officers and 5,964 who are minorities. It typically hires 500 to 600 recruits annually.
