More Truth Reaches the Light

Remember Hurricane Katrina? Bush's fault, right? Mike Brown and FEMA "failure"?

Ourselves and others pointed out the fact that hundreds of buses were destroyed by flooding - hundred of buses that could have been used to EVACUATE residents of New Orleans? Hundreds of buses controlled by local and state democratic officials that had ZERO to do with the Federal response to Katrina?

Guess what just popped up on the radar? Local officials turned down Federal assistance in evacuating New Orleans hospitals and nursing homes where almost 100 people ended up drowning in their beds. As more information becomes available, the cry of Bush and Republican incompetence ring more and more hollow.

ATTENTION: Now you see they get guns in jail. We need more gun control since it seems that cops are reponsible for that gun getting into the jail. Allow officers to own only 1 duty weapon and have it kept in the station locked down. Off-duty carry? Gee it seems it was a stub-nose 38 that got in the jail. Some copper probably lost it while drunk in a tavern.

failed social programs and missplaced liberal guilt brought us city leadership like that found in N.O. , D.C. DETROIT etc....
chicago looks good in comparison only because of the cashflow....not the caliber of management.
let this city be tested and the thin vail of competence will be lifted to expose a city rendered dissfunctional by corruption and mismanagement.
taxpayers, in this 2nd most expensive U.S. city, will then begin cost/benifit analysis and realize that naperville has bars and resturants as well as award winning schools.
that sucking sound will be the taxbase.

To the non-police 7:38. It wasn't a .38 snubnose, it was a cheap .380 semi-auto. The three goofs are real bad guys, viceloard with extensive histories. That the street police, not the CAPS offices or the headquarters paper hangers have put in jail many times. Two are in for murder and one is in for agg kidnapping. It was good police work, not CAPS meeting that put them in there.

It was likely a viceloard jail guard, who got by the background check that got them the gun. Too bad they are such lousy shots, the last man standing could have saved the taxpayers a lot of money.

But then, some lawyer lowlife, will probably sue the county for allowing the gun in and let their poor client get a boo-boo.

Can we get back on the purpose of this thread.

I suggest that SCC, try making a daily open thread for breaking stories. That might attract and keep the non-police and the other riff-raff away from any good discussions.

And, to the guy who always claims to be first, get a life, but try renting one before you buy.

Anyway, back to the thread.

I bet that New Orleans didn't train, or drill their first responders. Just like Chicago, maybe they had great plans. But no battle plan survives first contact with the enemy, especially if your soldiers have no idea what is the plan.

If the city's ability to sustain life is threatened by some great event, you better have your own family plan, your own supplies, multiple escape routes, and communications.

Administration backs off Bush's vow to reduce Mideast oil

importsBy Kevin G. Hall

Knight Ridder Newspapers

WASHINGTON - One day after President Bush vowed to reduce America's dependence on Middle East oil by cutting imports from there 75 percent by 2025, his energy secretary and national economic adviser said Wednesday that the president didn't mean it literally.
What the president meant, they said in a conference call with reporters, was that alternative fuels could displace an amount of oil imports equivalent to most of what America is expected to import from the Middle East in 2025.
But America still would import oil from the Middle East, because that's where the greatest oil supplies are.
The president's State of the Union reference to Mideast oil made headlines nationwide Wednesday because of his assertion that "America is addicted to oil" and his call to "break this addiction."
Bush vowed to fund research into better batteries for hybrid vehicles and more production of the alternative fuel ethanol, setting a lofty goal of replacing "more than 75 percent of our oil imports from the Middle East by 2025."

We need judges like this in Cook County

6 years for hitting cop, deputy

A man who punched a Glendale Heights police officer and then slugged a DuPage County sheriff's officer on the same day was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison. Edgar Benavides, 22, was sentenced by DuPage County Judge Robert Anderson after pleading guilty to two felony counts of aggravated battery to a police officer. Benavides was arrested last July 25 after he punched a Glendale Heights police officer called to investigate a complaint that Benavides had knocked over a bicyclist at a local park. While being booked at the DuPage County Jail, Benavides punched a sheriff's officer.

If 1711 responded quickly to the in-progress call and put out a good flash that other responding units used to catch the offenders then what is the problem? Why shouldn't selfless team work be rewarded?
There is too much super cop, I'm the real police, everyone else is a dog attitude on this dept. Some guys have to tell the whole dept what they did, others just keep plugging away anonyomously.
I've actually been on-duty when the first responding unit refused to put out the flash on a rape offender so they could be the car that caught him. They told other cars to move so they could leave the scene. The R/Sgt had to come on the air repeatedly asking them to give out a flash. Come to think of it...it was probably the same asshole who wrote the posting that I'm responding to.

The disclosures come in a new edition of Lawless World, by Phillipe Sands, a QC and professor of international law at University College, London. Professor Sands last year exposed the doubts shared by Foreign Office lawyers about the legality of the invasion in disclosures which eventually forced the prime minister to publish the full legal advice given to him by the attorney general, Lord Goldsmith.

The memo seen by Prof Sands reveals:

· Mr Bush told the Mr Blair that the US was so worried about the failure to find hard evidence against Saddam that it thought of "flying U2 reconnaissance aircraft planes with fighter cover over Iraq, painted in UN colours". Mr Bush added: "If Saddam fired on them, he would be in breach [of UN resolutions]".

· Mr Bush even expressed the hope that a defector would be extracted from Iraq and give a "public presentation about Saddam's WMD". He is also said to have referred Mr Blair to a "small possibility" that Saddam would be "assassinated".

· Mr Blair told the US president that a second UN resolution would be an "insurance policy", providing "international cover, including with the Arabs" if anything went wrong with the military campaign, or if Saddam increased the stakes by burning oil wells, killing children, or fomenting internal divisions within Iraq.

· Mr Bush told the prime minister that he "thought it unlikely that there would be internecine warfare between the different religious and ethnic groups". Mr Blair did not demur, according to the book.

Rapid consumer spending helps push the savings rate to lowest level since 1933

WASHINGTON — Americans' personal savings rate dipped into negative territory in 2005, something that hasn't happened since the Great Depression. Consumers depleted their savings to finance the purchases of cars and other big-ticket items.
The Commerce Department reported Monday that the savings rate fell into negative territory at minus 0.5 percent, meaning that Americans not only spent all of their after-tax income last year but had to dip into previous savings or increase borrowing.

The savings rate has been negative for an entire year only twice before — in 1932 and 1933 — two years when the country was struggling to cope with the Great Depression, a time of massive business failures and job layoffs.

As far as the guy who said something about the rape, good flash, great, but why haven't the people who catch burglars, or robbers, or even get a bunch of dope off the streets recognized? Those flashes weren't for rape, don't try and kid yourself about being the real police, you eat with the Sgt., and he hooks you up to try and look good. "As far as the guy who said something about the rape, good flash, great, but why haven't the people who catch burglars, or robbers, or even get a bunch of dope off the streets recognized?"

Read my post again.

"I've actually been on-duty when the first responding unit refused to put out the flash on a rape offender so they could be the car that caught him. They told other cars to move so they could leave the scene. The R/Sgt had to come on the air repeatedly asking them to give out a flash."

My point was that the R/Os DID NOT PUT OUT A FLASH BECAUSE THEY ARE SUPERHERO COPPERS WHO DID NOT WANT ANYONE ELSE TO GET THE ARREST. Putting out a good flash is avery important part of getting the bad guy.

Sometimes you get an honorable for something that is a minor roll in a big arrest. Othertimes you get screwed on a UUW (I did).

Oh ya, so what if the soul patrol is watching the hoochie ass coming out of the clothing store. You're probably watching the ass coming out of Brokeback Mountain at Lincoln Village.
