WHAT A SITE I SAW TODAY!!!! Driving down 111th st in Mt. Greenwood was Bt. 3903 in a marked Ford Explorer with "Traffic Saftey" on the side of the explorer, and the driver of the Explorer was eating a sandwich while driving!! Is that traffic saftey?? No wonder why the public looks down on us!!! That PO should go back and learn to park and eat!! WHAT A DISGRACE TO ALL THE MEN & WOMEN IN BLUE!!!

One Las Vegas police officer is dead and another officer is injured after a shootout with a suspect in the southwest valley, according to authorities. The suspect, who was reportedly armed with an assault rifle, was shot and killed in the incident in the 8300 block of Feather Duster Court, near Durango Drive and Patrick Lane.

Yeah everyone is getting a ribbon, I repeat everyone in the department.
Two ways to look at it, you have 10% of the department doing the actual police work making everyone else look good. The other side is that everyone does their little part to make the wheel go round.
Either way, everyone that was on active duty during 2004 will get a new ribbon to add to their chest.
Two Sgts. will now be on the FOP Board. Sgts. should not be on the FOP Board, especially considering one made by merit.
Take a look at the watch worn by the cop in the DNC photo. It is telling him that it is TIME TO KICK SOME ASS!

I wish that was true! I got a parker from a 012th District copper the other day. Fucker was fast too, I was only away from the car for a few minutes! My fault though...$50! Arrrrghhhhhhh!
I was the cop in the traffic safety car. It was my only chance too eat. I was refused lunch and had too go from job to job.
During my shift i wrote 12 movers. all safety violations and insurance violations. I was hoping that my actions today saved you or a loved one from a dangerous or a costly accident with an uninsured motorist.
Next time ill try and do less.

Traffic Safety writing movers? Come on. They do not even carry ticket books. They only write tickets when they work special employment every friday night at time and one half (roadside dui or enforcement in a special detail). I do believe you ate a sandwich, but you guys and girls only visit one or two schools a day and these are preplanned visits. Your not working off the computer with a large backlog of jobs waiting, so pull over and eat at a nice place.

Who do you think the merit sergeants are? They were identified by former Superintendent Terry Hilliard a few years ago when he was faced with the dismal showing by minorities on a prior sergeants promotional list. Hilliard stated to the news media that the department would devise a way to make the promotional process equitable. I almost pissed in my pants listening to him trying to pronounce "equitable". With rare exception, nearly all of the minority sergeants are meritorious. The white sergeants will have political connections or were lap dogs for some exempt member. Its pathetic, and the reason the department is a mess. But this is Chicago, not Glenview, Park Ridge, Madison, Wi. etc.
For what it is worth, some of us actually studied - hard - and got made. I wish the best of luck to every one of you taking the upcoming test. It may not be the best way to make promotions, but it is what we have to deal with.

Since when do we reward people with a promotion for just studying hard? You might have studied hard and ranked somewhere south of eighteen-hundred on the sergeants list. So now the white males and females ranking beyond 323 are now piddling because the crown prince of mediocracy in the mayors office has directed the department to promote under-performing blacks and hispanics to ensure racial parity in the supervisory ranks.
Oh, and lets not forget the red herrings-those connected white males or females who languished in "units" and are thrown into the meritorious mix confuse the politically inexperienced into not seeing this for what it is-raced based promotion. They can give you all the stripes they want, it doesn't change what you are, an under-performer who relies on quotas to get a pay raise.
FYI
80% of the upcoming Sgt. exam is all new. So, study your new orders and think like a sgt, not like a policeman. But, if you are a real policeman, don't treat your working police like shit, ie " The dickman" in 020. What a waste, if we make more like him, we should all think about going postal. Remember Sgt's are to help and protect the patrolman, not to be your tool for self esteem and get your rocks off by trying to fuck with working police. No one gets points for being a shitbird, you get points by being someone that P.O.'s can count on and trust that you won't jam them up for making a small mistake.That makes a good sergeant.
But I heard from P.O.'s that you were never the real police, so I can see your problem. Grow up and trust the people who work for you and stop being scared, grow some balls!!!
Hate to ruin your "theory," but I am a M/2 who actually got promoted because I SCORED WELL ENOUGH on the test. I'm not here defending the way the promotion process is administered, but until someone can actually find a better way to determine who gets promoted and who doesn't, it is what we have to deal with. If you want the pay raise, either come up with a solution to the obvious problem - then find some way to convince the "powers that be" that it is, in fact, a better plan - or just learn the orders and hope you can score high enough to avoid the political hand that is dealt to us. I scored well - I got lucky. I hope you do to.
Not totally sure where you're going with that, but it sounds like the previous poster was commenting on the corruption of the promotion process, not individual goofs like the one you refer to.
A good guy can slip in meritoriously, and a moron can make it by score. But the test is the only objective measure of required knowledge; or do you simply favor a patronage system like Streets and Sanitation. Thre are no meritorious physicians, lawyers or airline pilots. And if there were I'd pray I don't get sick, get sued, or travel abroad.
The only point I was trying to make, is that until another process is put into place, this is what we have to deal with. I'm the first one to agree that the process is seriously flawed, but until it is changed, if someone wants the promotion bad enough - and they don't have a politician on their speed dial - all you can do is study what is thrown at you. Is it wrong that if you score #400 on the list that you don't get made, while someone else who didn't even take the second part is now a Sgt.? Of course it is.
Its actually "FYI" that was hard to interpret. I concur with you completely. I dont care if you're white, yellow, brown, or zebra stripped. I'm not trying to beat a dead horse,however,the only equitable way to promote is by rank order based upon score. I know, I know, insiders having knowledge of the test beforehand. Thats a tough one to crack, however, the meritorious promotion policy is the most in your face legitamized corruption in the recent history of the department.
A better system for promotion. O.K. here we go- The first part of the test, the only part that is legitimate should count in your ranking. Why doesn't it count? Because it is a legitimate test. The should be a record of how many felony arrests you've made. The department keeps records (if we find out you've falsified your record we throw you jail, just like filing a false police report). Have you made a felony arrest? If not, then your not even allowed to take the fucking test. How is that? is that brillant or what? It took me 10 seconds to think that miraculous crap up. The meritorious bothers me, but the supposedly legitimate part really gives me a belly laugh. A 10 year old could come up with a more legitamite system.
I just fucking with you. Daley will allow a legitimate promotional system as soon as his new staff vetts out the corruption at city hall. As soon as he starts hiring people who are not members of the Democratic party.
