Every so often, we pray and hope that a rumor might be true: that certain city officials get indicted, that long lost relative may have won the lottery, that someone qualified actually got a spot/promotion they deserved. This is one of those times:
- According to Dick Morris, former Vice President and lunatic-for-hire Al Gore may have enough momentum to steal the nomination away from Hillary Clinton in 2008. Morris postulates that Gore has picked up enough credibility on the Left that he can make himself the frontrunner by just entering the race.
Go read the entire post at Captain's Quarters and surf some of the links embedded in the piece, especially the Dick Morris article. Morris is one of the architects of the Clinton presidency and is an astute political observer if nothing else. If he is picking up these signals, there is something to them. Al Gore would drive Hillary away from the centrist positions she is staking out and drag her into a bruising primary fight. This could secure a Republican majority for the next 20 years if Gore gets into the race. Karl Rove couldn't make commercials fast enough to completely destroy the democrats as a political entity. Chicago Tribune reports that a man went into a local store and asked the clerk to warm up - in the microwave - what appears to be a severed male body part.
Customers going in and out of a store on the westside of Chicago didn't know what to think when they saw police activity on the scene.
A man who looked like Seiser walked in and asked a female clerk if he could use the store microwave to warm up something.
Concerned about an unusual odor, the clerk opened the microwave to check on the item and out tumbled what appeared to be a severed human penis.
Police were called immediately and a man reported to be Seiser ran out of the store empty handed.
“Hopefully, they're looking for the person this belongs to,” said Sandy Furman.
“I think that's the one they ought to look for - the one who may be hurt,” said Denny Adler. “It's shocking that I'm not (surprised). It's just the nature of the beast.”
Police continue to look into the case.

Question to CPD concerning Burglar Alarm Stickers:
As a business owner, if I have my burglar alarm sticker placed in the front entranceway as required, and you come out due to an alarm, my question is:
If I get a failure to maintain citation, how do you know if the dates are concurrent with my business license, since the dates are not listed on my sticker?
Do you go by my permit number on the sticker, and then you have access to information that you can only see on some computer system or whatever? In other words, how do you know that the sticker is within the legal boundaries?

When guys talk about "the REAL PO-lice", it appears that coppers who have worked the most violent districts listed have more in common with their NYPD "hellhole" counterparts than officers whose only experience has been in districts like 016, 017, 008 and all the districts in Area 3.
My cousin is NYPD working in Patrol Bureau Brooklyn North.
They have great nicknames and slogans for their precincts including the 73rd and 79th Precincts. The 7-3 covers the notorious Brownsville section of Brooklyn and is nicknamed "Fort Zinderneuf" or "Fort Z". (Read the novel or see the film "Beau Geste" and you'll know why.)
The 7-9 covers the projects in Bedford-Stuyvesant, their motto being "To Live and Die in Bed-Stuy!"
The 32nd Pct. in Harlem is known as "The Tomb of Gloom". The 40th Pct. is in the South Bronx.

Tru dat retired guy. If you crunched the numbers in 008 the killin takes place on only a few beats in the east end. The ratio there would be pretty high where as the west end numbers would look like 016. 008 sucks howerver too many calls for service no matter where you are.

I worked in 025 about 10 years ago. During that time 009 & 025 led the city in calls for service every year. So what? What exactly is a call for service? Is your life threatened as you roll on your habitual missing? How about that burglar alarm that goes off every day? Oooh, I'm shaking in my boots. That guy from 008 is some Asian guy who just got off probation. I ran into him one night at Pindos when he was working and he was yapping on about being deep in the shit. He lives half a block west of Western and south of the Ike. I read a post by him on here before where he was yapping on about being safer in 011 than 008. Of course he never worked in 011. Neither did he mention the two cracker-ass UIC students that went to a "party" next door to him and ended up getting shot. I won't reveal my identity, but most of you couldn't carry Northside's jock or gun lube.

As someone that works in a unit and frequently works in 011, 008, 010, 007, 025,009,,002 I can honestly tell you that 008 is busy and it is violent, alot of englewood and wentworth(project denizens) has moved west, alot of pilsen, little village has moved south and west, that district along with 025, 011 and a few others are simply too big to be properly policed, the west end of 008 has even gotten busier, they really need to realign the districts to take into account the regentrification of the once busy districts like,002, 021, 012, 013, 014 and the surging calls for service of 025, 008, 009, etc.

Having worked in Fillmore for most of the 90's, it was undoubtably the most wacked out, dope-ridden, shoot'em and kill'em place on earth that wasn't an officially designated war zone. Rockwell Gardens was a constant war zone, as were Beats 1121, 1112 and most other beats, except for 1113 and 1111, which is the industrial area. We got piles of dope out of Rockwell Gardens on a daily basis and guns were a dime-a-dozen there and on 1112's beat. But now, Rockwell Gardens is gone. The yuppies already bought up the East end and are pushing West. All the Spanish Cobras that used to shoot through the front windows at us when we drank at Ricks on Taylor and Western are long gone... replaced by yuppies in their over-priced condominiums. Gentrification is ruining a perfectly good ghetto. I'm not saying 11 isn't a tough place to work, but the ghetto is certainly shrinking pretty quickly there.
Anyway, working in 008 isn't exactly a cup o' tea these days. What used to be a retirement district has turned into Englewood West. You can thank Corliss for that, since he forced all the white kids out of Marquette Park back in the 80's. But I digress. 008 is pretty much all shit up to Cicero Avenue now. While those of us who don't have their heads buried in the sand know that everything up to Pulaski is all ghetto, The 10 sector is now becoming a war zone, too. Shootings and homicides are pretty much a regular event, and there's been more homicides on Beat 813 (between Pulaski and Cicero) than in Leclaire Courts in the past year. That's also where you'll find the most overall "weight" when it comes to dope safehouses.
Hey, the point is that this is a big city. Some spots have more of this and less of that, and vice-versa. Having worked just about every district in the city at one time or another in a citywide unit, there's shit everywhere and you can't get away from it. From the North end of the 24th district around Juneway Terrace to out in "The Hundreds" on the far South side, there's shit all over the place. I used to be one of those young guns who thought that only the ghetto police from places like Fillmore are the "real police", but now I know that every district has it's good and bad spots... even the overly-bashed 16th district. Good coppers adjust accordingly to whatever situation they happen to be dealing with at the time, whether it's a domestic in 012, a bar fight in 019 or doing narcotics surveillance from a rooftop on the West side. Arguing about who's the "better police" is an absolute moot point.
I don't know why so many Repuglicans are eager to see Gore run. After all, he won the popular vote the first time around, and the way that Bush's goon squad have "overseen" Iraq, the economy, immigration, the environment, the trade deficit, foreign relations, disaster management, internal corruption (from DeLay to Lott to Frist to Abramoff), corporate corruption (Enron, Exxon, Halliburton and now, Dubai-gate) and unqualified lackeys (e.g. Brown, Chertoff, Whitman, Bolton & Myers, for starters), I think Al is going to look like a pretty good choice.
The Bush administration will do down in history as the worst we've ever had. The man is a draft-dodger, an ex-drunk, a liar and a complete imbecile who has surrounded himself with the grimmest, most dishonest and corrupt pack of jackals ever known.
