Rumor has it the Sergeant contract passed out of committee today with the blessing of the mayor. Expect the City Council to pass it tomorrow. Also expect the Sergeants to be driving to work in new cars and on new motorcycles over the next two months as their retro check come in. Also expect a big wave of Sergeant retirements soon.

A lot of fantasies going around about the importance of bottom level supervisors. Do you really think anyone is getting your coffee or washing your car? You're in for a sorry surprise when you finish your little school next month. Maybe some female PPO might think you can do something for them, but anyone with a "get my coffee attitude" will soon be ignored and ostracized. Some cops will always hate management. Being a supervisior on the CPD has basically the same conotation that being a supervisor in streets and sans has. Most have sucked someone off to get ahead and the only ones who worry about you are those officers who haven't figured out how to buck the system yet. Any vet already knows how to buck the system so as not to worry about some little clout hack annoying them. It's the rookies that have to deal with these little useless pin heads who get promoted and think it really means anything but a bigger check. I feel sorry for them but this job is changing. Now it's McDonalds. That's how these new supervisors are, and that's how they're gonna treat the rooks. That's why a lot of vets won't take the promotional exams.
So many of the new supervisors have never made a felony arrest or done any work(on the street) as POs it's pathetic. This is also why the city can't get anyone to take the job. The city should just advertise the medical policy. 365 sick days every two years. There are so many people who take advantage of the medical it isn't even funny. It's the reason why we are the laughing stock of the labor world when we start whining about our contract. You can thank a lot of these supervisors as well as the FOP for this so called benefit. If you want the residency lifted or any kind of descent contract you better put that silly as medical on the table. Otherwise it's all B.S.

It's great that I have to hear about out contract news from this site since the PBPA site was last updated on 6 Jan 06. Why did the sgt's get out of FOP? I quess the 30% suck asses had something to do with it. Well thank god for this site so I can keep updated and good luck to all taking the sgt's test. Make your phone calls now and study becaue there is still hope. I made it legit so can you but it is not easy. and when you do make it expect midnights, more CR investigations assigned to you, and all the shit details, while some of your classmates will be going to the areas,and various units etc.

Lieutenants aren't being made this Friday, as the recommendations for "merit" picks are not due until 15 FEB. Thus, they won't be made for several more weeks.

I also made Sgt in 1997 from the 1993 test which was the last so-called legit test. I now have 20 yrs on, all on the street in the patrol division and have no regrets. I've peaked as I have no college and no desire to start now. This job is what you make of it. I've met some of the greatest people on this job, and only a handful of beat-offs. TAKE THE TEST!! It is definitely worth the aggravation. GOOD LUCK TO ALL AND WATCH EACH OTHER'S BACKS!!

If you got clout go ahead and take the test. It has to be about 70% clout anyway. Being a Sgt without clout is a joke. The clouted 1st dep tells the clouted district commdrs and clouted watch commdrs to tell the few Sgt who aren't clouted to get their rookie asses (your all rookies to the big boys) out their and make that bullshit index. It take about 10 seconds for these guys to lose their last ounce of dignity and start telling POs "We need to do a seat belt mission, it's what the watch cmmdr wants". Fucking pathetic. I don't blame the Sgts I'm just calling a spade a spade. Your the low man on the management food chain and they've got a plan for you- it's called micromanagement and it designed to make you look like a jackass. Now if you've got clout and so many of you do, then don't worry. You'll land nice and softly and just like you didn't do shit as a patrolman, you're not even gonna see much of the patrol division. It is about $425.00 gross PER CHECK over a patrolman less if you are a D2 even more less if you are D2A. Also with the new contract the spervisors quarterly will be $1,300 for the 15 - 20 year step. Less for less time and more for more time. Duty availabilty is the same as patrolman.

What I feel sorry for is the young guys who are on this job and can't get shit for overtime because of how the job is changed. All they have is stroke ass sgts like yourself telling them how important contact cards, and curfews and seat belf missions are after the watch commdr has told you like the shit bird you are to get some activitiy. So you run out of his office with your hair on fire and tell the rookies that clout isn't what gets you promoted. I'll believe in the promotion system as soon as I see a requirement that you must make just on felony pinch before they can promote you. Just one felony arrest. That's all I'm saying. But that would just be to hard for too many strokes who get promoted. That's not a merit problem that a 'car blanche' problem for the entire promotion system.
This is still a good job, just not nearly as good as it used to be for the new guys.

And while your at it give some to the watch commander as well. That's if your not to busy cutting out after 4 hours.

To the last Sgt who posted I say Amen. What everyone needs to do is look at anyone who doesn't have your mentality and ask what can we do to promote people like yourself. I know, I know, you might as well ask how do we get Daley out of office. Everyone is asked to do BS from time to time and we all have to do it. How do we minimize it? How can we avoid it? How can we bring about change? I believe no matter what anyone says, that talking about it here is a good thing. The press defenitely reads this blog and the U.S. attorney probably does. 5308 have signed up for Sgt.s test
3 people had turned it down on numerous occasions. When the rumor staarted that this was the last class off the list, they were finally going to accept the position - but Personnel forgot to call them. So they got added in late.

The last of Clines buddies just made Sgt. So the list is done.
King Richard doesn't sign contracts, so in a month the sergeants agreement will be put in place after the 30 days is up. Figure a shitload of sergeants will retire once backpay is done.
A new sergeants exam will take a while to score and there will be a shortage of sergeants in the meantime. A reliable source says it is almost a certaintly there will be one more class before the current list is struck.
We'll see!
