In a bit under 11 months, we have posted 1,000 threads for people to rant, rave, comment, commiserate, share info and fire broadsides at everything under the sun.
We'll pass 285,000 daily visits today and well over 1.3 MILLION page views. We've managed to attract a lot of notice from various elements within and outside of the Department. We've helped rally the troops to defeat a misbegotten proposal to name a street after a convicted felon, ripped the brass who stayed silent and hopefully kept alive the memories of a few coppers all but lost to history.
We're trying to be at the forefront of another charge for National Recognition for Al O'Connor; we're hoping for some nice coverage of Police Week in May; hopefully, we're around for another 1,000 posts, many of which will involve indictments of Cook County and City officials.

Our biggest priority is the health, safety and welfare of our families, and the city. This is not the first priority of current mayor.
We all have seen the money dumped into the trimmings, the iron fences, the folower pots, the speed-bumps while our streets, health care and benefits have eroded and the truck owners have gotten rich.
We need to get a new mayor, one who is committed to restoring our neighborhood and benefits.

I'm starting a new petition. SCC, sorry for this tread jump, but this involves officer safety.
I know the FOP follows The Blog. I know alot of Gold Stars do too. So I want everyone affected by this matter to reply to this topic and show everyone that you are in favor of my propsal:
GET THE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AGENCY OFF CITY WIDE ONE
The TMA's and their supervisors should not be on CW1, and should be removed immedately.
I have been assigned to a unit that uses CW1 for it's primary frequency for almost a year and a half now. Before this, I had no idea just how busy CW1 is. The following police units are on CW1:
* SOS
* SWAT
* TRU
* K-9
* CTA
* 3200 traffic enforcement cars
There are alot of police officers on it at a given time. Nearly all of these officers are hard working, bang em up, ass kicking guys and gals. What they work is a very dynamic enviroment with different assignments nearly every day. Many of these officers do not know their immedately area as intimately as the beat car may. That is why Officer Saftey is the MOST important issue.
That is why the TMA's have to go.
First off, the TMA's are not the police. For that reason alone, they should not be on a police frequency.
Secondly, since listening to them for over a year now and it is appearant that they receive absolutly no training on the proper usage of the police radio. They will come up on CW1 with no call number and no location and just start talking to the dispatcher like they are their buddy on their cell phone. They dont care if some police matter is transpirieng at the time, they just start talking. When the dispacther tells them to wait, they don't pay any attention to them. They just keep talking.
The TMA's radio edicate is so bad at times it honestly sounds like a citizen found a radio laying on the ground and just decided to start talking to it. After the dispatcher clears the police matter at hand, and gets to the TMA, everyone has to standby and listen to the TMA's story. If you have a problem, forget it, you will not get through.
On a busy zone, I was taught in the academy to make your transmission as brief and concise. The TMA's have no clue.

They are not under police supervision anymore, so why the hell are they still on our frequency? The only good thing is that after 1800hrs or so, they're usually off the air.

Today on the MANCOW MORNING SHOW on the radio, three "chesty" female cops came in to rally the public for the May 6th run for the CPD Memorial...a good thing and the gorgeous cops were asked to strip for mancow...another good thing! Did they??? I'll never tell. Also the strippers...I..mean the cops were recommending buying tickets for the JOHN HURLEY EVENT on April 29th...another good cause. The cops were pretty entertaining saying when they pull people over the "public" responds by saying things like" oh, please CUFF ME" or "FRISK ME!!" Does anyone know these cops that were on MANCOW this morning. If you don't, YOU SHOULD!

It seems with the new performance plan court attendence which is PART OF AN OFFICERS DUTY is being looked at by IAD very heavily. It seems that in ALL their INVESTIGATIONS...the ROGUE COPS that were caught did NOT attend COURT. THE ROGUE COPS DID NOT GO TO COURT BECAUSE THEY WERE ON THE TAKE ...so WHY BOTHER MAKE SMALL CHUMP CHANGE GOING TO COURT...GOING IN TRAFFIC,WAKING UP EARLY,ETC. In other words...DON'T GO TO COURT...YOU ARE SECRETLY FLAGGED....AND WATCHED...especially if in a PLAINCLOTHES CAPACITY. But...you didn't hear this from us.

I agree with you regarding the TMA's radio usuage, not only do they interrupt cw1 they also pop up on various zones around the city because they don't know how to use the radio. Mgt apparently thinks they're trained, just shows you what OEC mgt! thinks about your safety in the field. Trust me when I say your plight has fallen on deaf ears on more than one occassion, it took years to get

Yeah, I heard that IAD started following everyone who makes arrests. If you write traffic, OPS looks into your finances too! I heard about a guy who went down to IAD to give a report and was actually EATEN! Then they laughed at his widow and kicked his dog!

A couple of holes in the logic that no court time= criminal. What about the people who strictly pound the time box. Got 7-10 years on and 4000 hrs on books? Obviously if they are collecting OT but not making extra money, THEY must be on the take. Or, you're making tons of arrests, you find you actually save money by letting your partner have the court because after child care and taxes you get less then two-bits for the effort. Hey, when is the last time you saw a supervisor in court? THEY must be dirty, too. This is the insanity that occurs when you try to run a semi-military organization with Oracle buisness solutions. It's sad, really.

There was a C.R. number issued on the two officers involved in that police officer shooting last night. The C.R. alleges that the officers kept using the "F" word when communicating on Zone 6.
"The fucking guy just ran into the building, he's in the fucking building, I need a fucking ambulance." was just part of the C.R. number I saw.
So I guess a lesson for you little boys and girls out there, DONT USE THE "F" WORD WHEN BEING SHOT AT OR WHEN NEEDING AN AMBULANCE FOR YOUR SHOT PARTNER.

A man was shot in a fight with Glen Ellyn police in front of an apartment building Wednesday evening following an apparent domestic-related dispute between an engaged couple.
The incident occurred about 6 p.m. on Briar Street, in the west suburb, where Glen Ellyn police officers responded to a reported domestic dispute, according to a release issued by the Glen Ellyn Police Department.
A responding officer arrived on the scene to find a man running naked outside an apartment at the Briar Street address, where a fight ensued and the man was shot, the release states.
Police could not immediately confirm news reports that the shooting resulted in a fatality.
According to the release, a woman called police to report being beaten by her fiance, whom police later identified as the man shot.
The DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force, the DuPage County Sheriff's Department and the DuPage County State's Attorney's office were investigating, according to the release.
A representative from the sheriff's department was not immediately available early Thursday.

What is the BIG SECRET of getting asp training? I hear only that it is a four hour class, you have to run a mile and a half, and then get into red man gear and swing your asp at your partner several times. This sounds like a PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST only you ain't getting paid. Anyone know the details of the class? Haven't seen any postings on SCC about it. You would think on a cop site you would have something like asp training and certification on here. What gives, SCC?

Gas does not magicly appear at the pump! This profit was earned legally through the capitalist system. The gas at the pump has to be manufactured, shipped processed, made compatable to 15 different environmental grades for 15 different regions (thank you Clinton)and none of this can be done anywhere near or within the USA thanks to STUPID democrats and their environmentalist lobby.
But, since you like throwing numbers around; the corporate income tax of that 8.4 Billion must be paid at 15%. That is $1,260,000,000 in federal taxes. In addition in Chicago we pay 55 cents per gallon in tax of which 18 cents (double Exon's profit)also goes to the feds. That would be 16.8 billion. The grand total Federal Turban Durban Tax profit is a huge 18+ Billion dollars!!!

There is no 1.5 mile run in ASP training. We ran around the perimeter of a basketball court 4 times to warm up-not 1.5 miles. The 4 hour training can only be done while you are working not on an RDO so you are getting paid. You can sign up via the CLEAR system just like CTA or TARA. Before you go to training, you need to buy the correct size or you will be sent home. Also, no one gets hit with the ASP because that would break bones even with REDMAN gear on!!
Search under keyword "ASP training" to find the G.O in automated directives for all the info--it's no secret.
Did asp training this week up north on Larrabee. Good session. Wear comfortable clothes, you will get a workout.

Police Warn Of Armed Robberies In Belmont Area
NBC5's Don Lemon reported that the offender is described as a black male in his 20s, 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11, 160 to 180 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair and a medium complexion, the release said. Just to clarify a few points here....an illegal alien is one who entered the country without being cleared by immigration. Undocumented alien includes those who were permitted to enter but do not have pemrmanent residence status and therefore are undocumented because they do not have residency documents, cannot get a SS#, a drivers license, bank account, car insurance, medical insurance etc.
A resident alien is one who is a fully legal permanent resident but is not a US citizen. This person cannot vote but has documentation and can obtain drivers license, car insurance, health insurance, SS# etc. There is no requirement for this person to ever become a US citizen, just as there is no requirement for US citizens living and working in foreign countries to become citizens of that country.
While many of the undocumented are of Spanish descent, there are millions who are not. Huge numbers of Europeans and Asians are also undocumented. The difference is that they were permitted to enter the country in most cases because they had to get here on a plane and therefore were cleared by immigration at the airport of entry. However, they are still undocumented aliens.

i too, spend much time on CW1 and find the constant and sometimes multiple namechecks by guys working CTA annoying. is it just me or do these guys sound twice as loud as everyone else on the freq.?
why not put TMA's on a non police freq. and provide their supervisors with access to CW1 for emergencies.

First off, HBT is the generic incident type;

So correctly say SWAT was called out to an H , B , or T job.
The response time for SWAT is dependant on the District supervisors calling for SWAT.
They notify Operations Command, then SOS desk get called. The Desk personnel notifies the LT who confers with the Sgts., compile the list of available officers to call, then the phones start ringing. See the time delays...
Since half of the SWAT unit is in a required Terrorism class with LSU this week , many were home watching the SOX lose. When they get called they kiss their family goodbye and go to the ghetto in their PERSONAL cars.
That takes time, especially if they are coming from 016 going to 007. In personal cars they cannot run red lights , speed, or get into a wreck. Cause the Dept. won't cover them. Nor will their insurance carrier.
How is it a black officer from 189 can get a take home car so he can say "gimme two" four time a day, but a SWAT officer has to carry all his gear (Helmet, vest, gas mask, nomex flight suit, goggles, head set comms, drop rig belt (regular belt doesnt work with the ceramic plate vest), elbow and knee pads, extra boots, etc..) then change into the gear around the corner in the hood of the wood, and all the while burn gas in the family car at 3.09 a gallon.
Tell you what; put your application in to SOS and get on the SWAT unit this Summer so you can wear all that in the heat.
And when you're at the Hurley benefit this Saturday evening, the original author of that hair salon nonsense that's so critical of a SWAT officer's hair can say sorry to John Hurley's family. John's funeral was on the first day that SWAT went operational with twenty SWAT officers in New Orleans.

When a Sgt. or Lt. got to a Det. Area they were happy just to be there. Nice clean job, not bothering anyone and no one bothering you.
Now when they arrive they can't wait to become Lt. Capt.s Cmdrs and so on.
All think they are the answer to the Det. Div. and all of it's problems. They instill the same backstabbing lifestyle in the new Det.s
All of the Areas have problems. It's just that some don't know it. All think the grass is greener on the other side. It's a job that you have to do and become involved to be any good at it.
You can't solve all crime. You have to pick and choose, work on the worthwhile jobs and shitcan the rest. Young and/or naive supervisors don't know this and will never learn it.
When your retired, whether you were a Ptlmn, Det. Sgt or Dept Supt. you are an ex-policeman. No one gives a shit. No one remembers anything good you did but they will remember if you were an asshole.
