Very Good Shoot

In our humble opinion, a Good Shoot is one where the bad guy gets shot. A Very Good Shoot is when the bad guy expires. A Very Good Shoot last night around 100th and Lowe.

Sun Times coverage.

John Farrell was badly wounded in the early 1970's when he was shot twice by a drunken offender with a 1911 .45 over by Illinois Masonic Hospital.

He was responding to an on view shots fired.

The offender was shot 5 times by Farrell's partner Mike Malone. It took the offender an entire month to die.

Crimefile told the story a while back on this blog...

SCC,

You are such a fucking stroke. Dumbest thing you ever posted. Obviously, you have never been in a shooting. Nothing "very good" about killing someone. What is good is being able to go home safe. After you hug your family, say a prayer that you survived, you then have to live the rest of your life knowing that you took someone's life. I did not say regret you killed someone, you just have to live it.

He has handled dozens of police shootings...and is THE BEST boss you would EVER want handling your shooting!!! It will be a very sad day when he retires from this job...the dept will really lose a GREAT, GREAT wealth of knowledge!! He is worth his weight in platinum..

And the Lord says:
Thou shall not kill
He also says:
I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance those who would attempt to harm my brother. (Pulp Fiction but true)

If some dude forced your hand in defense of your life or the lives of those you were sworn to protect then that will be his challenge to convince God of his actions.
Rule #1 I was taught in the academy:
Go home the same way you came in.

Have no regrets or pain, go hug your family they'll let you know how important you are in this world. Go to confession if you feel guilty. God will release you of that guilt. No reason to not sleep well if you know you had no choice.

024Th District has become the new Joke of the Northside.

Spineless D.C. !

Officers making it on Merit who have a negative reputation by colleagues CITYWIDE.

Lesbians (not that, that alone is wrong) getting special assignments. One lez sergeant for four (4) alternative lifestyle officers!! nice ratio huh Sgts?

Watch Secretary (Marie from Everyone loves Leavitt) reading the paper at the W.C. desk while the desk Sgt takes reports. and then leaving after a 4 hour shift. I mean how long does it take make the sheets. Pick up a fucking phone or take a report. HEY D.C. PUT A COMPUTER IN THE RADIO ROOM AND LET MARIE DO BOTH !!!

Tact and Gang teams that cant be found in the Area Three DOC area.

Two tact secretaries, I guess to file all the DOPW and CTTL arrests.

Cant tell you how many Sgts, Lts and P.O.’s in the neighborhood relations / Seniors office. So many of them they have THREE offices and 19 computers. Computers for patrolmen 3 !!
And they swapped out a crappy monitor from the D.C. staff for a nice monitor of the 3 computers for 200 Officers.

Foot guys and GALS with less than 15 sometimes less than 10 years.

6 officers detailed to the gun goons out of 12 from 024. Anyone from 019 assigned.
How many actual P.O.’s from Area 3 on the Area 3 gang intelligence team??

If the Public really knew.

Hey how are the Homicides and the houses get shot up in 024 coming along ?

And on and on and on and .......

Bad guy, with a pistol in hand, throws the car in reverse striking an Officer, when the Officers partner shoots into the side window striking dude. The Officer struck by the car suffered minor injuries. All Officers are O.K.!!

Yeah, I work like this throughout the majority of the city. It is evident throughout the blogs. I demonstrate that my exempts, for the most part are par-taking in consistent KOOL AID ORGY'S, here at FORT KOOLAID. I stopped caring long ago about whether or not my officer's were safe. My interest only lies on how I can further myself on your back.

I'm in spin cycle mode now and I have to prepare for my next koolaid injection along with handling promotions for my most frequent koolaid drinking partners.

As of 220hrs friday night, my unit could still not tell us what we were doing for the demenstration on monday. We will all probably get a call around 2200hrs tonight telling to have our gear ready to go! Maybe we will get a foot of snow tomorrow! Be safe out there tomorrow boys and girls!

That is a great question. My thinking on it is that the police should have a "medium" but not-threatening presence along the routes and perimeter of the crowd. No riot gear, no shotguns or whatever, just "presence". Stay within sight of one another at ALL COSTS.

But they should have 6 to 10 response teams of 200 or so POs each, all gathered within 1 or 2 miles of the planned sight. Full riot gear, tear gas and whatever else might be needed.

300,000 or more is a huge crowd, and a lot of these people will be children and elderly. The last thing anyone needs is a stampede or disturbing televised images. That said, any dangerous weapons in the crowd should be addressed IMMEDIATELY.

Oh, and some of our sooper-dooper-plain-clothes-troopers should be scattered within the crowd as voluntary observers (color of the day and all that), just to keep eyes where they should be.

But anybody responsible for provoking a riot oughta be dragged into an alley and shot. No matter who it is. Potentially a very dangerous situation, so please be careful if you are there.

Oh yeah, and I doubt the exempts have any kind of decent plan, but maybe they'll surprise me.

What's the problem, all you have to do is read the newspaper - field uniforms, no zoot suits or cannon regale, no heavy weapons, helmets somewhere - meet downtown, disburse the unruly, make no arrests, look foolish - what else is there? Duh!!!!!!!!!1

I know they don't let any of the junior boy scouts carry decent weapons, but the CPD has a long history of stocking and using tear gas for crowd control. And there are a few units that actually put people into demonstrations as observers.

Let me guess, you haven't been around long? Or are you just retarded?

The point is, the tear gas is a last resort, but if its needed for a major crowd disturbance and it isn't readily available, there will be hell to pay.

And if they don't have anybody floating around in the crowd in c/d, than there are one or two units that should be entirely disbanded.

#02: He was a convicted felon who was found to be in possesion of a loaded handgun on his person (not in the car but on him)when the body was removed from the car.

Those tanks are full of pepper spray/O.C. NOT FUCKING TEAR GAS!!! I didn't realize how hard this concept is to grasp for so many of you! The Department does NOT USE TEAR GAS!

I realize how important it is for some of you to feel superior to everyone around you, but this isn't a matter of semantics! My, such vitriol in our comments section. And aimed at us? Wow.

First of all, we thought that any shooting was "good" as long as the copper went home. We've also been to numerous FOP meetings where cops get awards for bravery above and beyond the call of duty. And for every single one, if the bad guy is DOA, there is a standing ovation for the cop.

Our people deserve to know they have our unequivocal support when they are involved in a shooting. Whether that's counselling, an award, an ovation, or just an 'atta boy in the hallways, they deserve it. Sure, it might be rough on some people, taking the life of a scumbag - they aren't robots. But knowing that your co-workers believe you did the right thing - maybe the ONLY thing under the circumstances - means the world to them.

As to the other accusations against us, we'll decline to answer specifics lest we give away too much, but we have been pushing a car, not a desk for most of our careers and no, we've never been involved in a shooting as the shooter, although we've made appearances at round tables as witnesses and been on the scene of more than a few others that ended up in a room full of brass. That doesn't make us any less a cop and any less thankful that the guys at 100th and Lowe ended up on the good end of a justifiable shoot. They deserve to know they did good. Very good even.

As to the other stuff about "color of the day," we never mentioned it. It's so much in the public realm as to be an "open" secret. Why all the drama? Thanks Triumph for the support.

Of course its allowed. The General Orders can say whatever they want. In fact, anyone with any experience has been in situations where one contradicts another. GOs are there to hang you, not to give you clear directions for what you do.

Regardless, the original point was that a massive and HEAVY response team or 5 or 6 had better be available if any PO gets into it tomorrow. JUST IN CASE. Don't know why the paranoids and goofs tried to change the topic.

A massive political protest has great potential for disaster. The soft uniform presence is a good idea, but they better have a plan 2 if things go South.

I know, I know. Plan 2? Is there even really a Plan 1 yet? Does anyone have any confidence that Chicago is prepared for anything? Even with weeks worth of notice?

I was with the Dirty Dog at 22 and State the night of the Bulls riot. 3 p/o's and a Sgt. held off app 1000 people from the projects that were trying to loot the liquor store on the corner. The shit worked great. They all went back into the PJ's coughing and throwing up never to be sceen for the rest of the evening. The only problem was that 021 Tact team didn't recieve gas masks.

I don’t know who wrote that about 024. but you have to agree kind of amateur hour over there. New DC, New Tact LT, basically reverse seniority tactical / gang teams. I do like the new locks on the Tact / Gang doors harder too see the mediocrity.
Really 2 tact secretaries? Maybe that’s why I get time due denied.
3rd watch secretary being Marie from Everyone loves Raymond I was rolling.
I want to add one thing to the list, BT 2422 the most active, the areas deployment area(including 3 or 4 fairly recent homicides) have the two biggest do nothings. How do you work drug infested beat and never by chance make an arrest or see something suspicious enough to make a street stop ??

4/30/2006 10:58:17 PM

Point by Point:

Rottner has got close to 30 years on.
Amati has 20 and killed that stupid pollock in 16 who pointed a gun at him. also he was a 15TH Dist.Ranger before he made Sgt in 96.

Mediocrity, have you looked at the watches? Also Duggan dictated contact cards and numbers over quality. Now Pod Mssions are the big thing. Crack Hotlines, Citizen Complaints, D/C beefs, Alderman complaint, City service Request...tons of B/S to do. Also the locks are to keep out the theives/P.O.s who think our office is their private lounge.
Reverse seniority? My team is 5-10 year P.O.s. I haven't seen anybody on the watches or tact/gangs worthy of working in the real ghetto.
Two Tact secretaries, the night one was doing the tedious pawn shop computer entries. When that was stopped, you can't morraly dump her. Also, if she got dumped, another job in a unit would be where she would go.

Marie, does her job, show up at 1300, and gets out a little early. That is a perk that comes with her job. Don't like it, too bad.

Do you want to work Beat 2422??

Eugene Tackleberry? Please, are you Mayor Daley?

I'm the guy worried that people like you will get killed because of incompetent bosses, incompetent planning, incompetent logistics, and incompetent coworkers.

Even though you would appear to be an incompetent coworker, I'm still worried about you.

Always a laugh watching the two year wonders who can't even imagine what its like to have a massive situation blow up. I hope you get to keep your innocence on the job. Maybe we should call you Bambi!

New Tear Gas Developed !

from 35th St: a new crowd control gas made of vaporized Kool-Aid is soon to be issued to personnel. It is rumored that, upon exposure, a person immediately puts his index finger across his lips horizantally and then the reaction from the vapors cause the index finger to quiver up and sown, causing the exposed to make the sound , ba-dee ba-dee, ba-dee, ba-dee, ba-dee,for several hours, a common reaction to the vapors, as those at the 35th St. Kool-Aid Factory can attest to. After this follows several hours of sitting down and sucking one's big toe, till the vapors finally wear off and it's time to go home....
