FOP Lawsuit
Someone referred us to Sun Times story today about two officers who are suing the FOP:
- Two former Fraternal Order of Police members have sued the union, claiming they were kicked out for speaking to the Chicago Sun-Times and another newspaper about underreported salaries in the union's 2003 charitable organization report to the state.
We know of both of the individuals suing the FOP. Both have appeared in various comment threads here and both have reached out to contact us on occasion. Anyone know anything about this or care to comment? We remember there was a large stink on the old SCCN Bulletin Board regarding a bunch of this. And something to do with the 2001 (?) campaign for the FOP.

I know both of the people mentioned here and both are knowledgable officers. Both have always been nothing but kind to me. I cannot say anything bad about either of them.

Mark "BADA BING" Donahue should use all of his $178,000.00 salary to defend this lawsuit and not the membership's dues but he will say he is defending the "honor" of the FOP and blame others for the lawsuit. If it is all lies Donahue should have filed a lawsuit for "defamation of character" but the the defense to that charge is the "truth" and Donahue could "never handle the truth" could he?

I think what he is saying maybe some courtesy should have been extended. He did not say a violation was not committed. We are able to exercise discretion on traffic stops. I have never written a P.O. , their Family or anyone over 60 yrs Old. If writing Senior Citizens floats your boat then go at at it, If you ever write my Dad I will find you.
Professional courtesy goes a long way esp in this industry. Retired people have it bad enough on a fixed income. Retired coppers paved the way for the new kids on the job, without that 61 yo man's contributions and his coworkers you folks wouldn't have, court time money, susp days that only affected your retirement date and not your bidding senoirity, working day furloughs, watches that didnt rotate every 30 days ,and endless list of benefits, that he didnt have when he started his career. He also protected you when you were a child going to school everyday. Shame on them. Guess they couldn't see any gangbangers to write up. (EWW gangbangers are scary... )

No one is condoning that with the "sticker" you can break the law. Folks do it all the time with and without. I have been bless a couple times with a warning, or just a "slow down" and I have no stickers. But I did reflect on my driving, and it did keep me in check. So the purpose of the traffic stop worked, without the additional fine.

Whoever is claiming they sent us the complaint is misinformed. We just checked the e-mail account AGAIN and we have received zero, zip, zilch, nada in regard to this lawsuit. We were contacted by one of the people involved and offered a copy of the suit when filed, but nothing further was sent to us. We have reached out again to attempt to locate a copy of the suit.
If we get it, we will read it and comment on it. We would even post links to it should it be published online. But please don't imply that we are withholding any info. We don't play that game.

Threatening a public official (or his/her immediate family) is a CLASS 4 FELONY.
However, there is no law against wishing some "public official" suffers a long, painful death and goes to hell.

If you are the police you should get respect and a play from other coppers. If you are not the police, it is a diffent story. Anybody can say they are related, or some other bullshit. We, the real police, have no way of knowing if someone is a father, uncle, wife, brother, cousin, or freind of a CPD officer. So many people lie and bullshit us. If you are driving like a big asshole, or you have an attitude when you get stopped, then fuck you, you desserve a ticket. You would be suprised how many guys and girls get stopped driving 80 miles per hour on Archer Ave and then get stopped by CPD and say "my daddy is a copper in narcotics". Well, guess what, fuck you. 80 mps on Archer (30mph zone) you get a ticket. This is not a simple mistake. If you drive like a big fuck asshole, you get a ticket, Beeeeeoooootchhh.!!

I wouldn't write a 60 year old (doesn't matter what color or race) just because I don't want to lecture or punish someone who's almost old enough to be my parent. That being said, I have no problem with writing a person who "claims" to be a family member of a copper if...
A: The relation to the copper can't be verified
B: The violation was pretty severe
C: The person who commited the violation is a total asshole with a shitty attitude
And yes, I was a Fillmore Ranger, too. Bragging about arresting "real" criminals with a long rap sheet in 011 isn't too hard when it pretty much describes 80% of the population there. If you can't make a felony pinch in 011 it's because you went out of your way to avoid it. Hell, if you do a street stop and run four name-checks, one of them is guaranteed to have a warrant. I've dealt with asshole family members, and they got what they deserved. I've also dealt with asshole coppers, and they got a "GO FUCK YOURSELF," but not a ticket.
If you have a problem with someone writing a family member, take it up with them. When you post that shit here, you only reinforce to the public at large that reads this blog what a bunch of assholes we are.
I'm no saint, but I try real hard to make sure I follow the rules of the road. I don't want to be pulled over or get in an accident. If you drive right, you don't need a button.

Be careful what you wish for.....any cash settlement or judgement would come out of the FOP treasury (meaning OUR DUES).
Wait til it all plays out and hear every side of the story before you make judgement. If Mark & Company were out of line, they'll pay out of THEIR pocket, not the FOP's.
FOP has insurance, so the money would not come out of our dues.

Okay, so that is one lawsuit in which the FOP is trying to quash the freedom of speech by expelling the two members from the union. That has a chiling effect for future elections. Plus, no member has ever been expelled by the FOP (that I am aware) prior to this, whether under Nolan or Dineen.
But the other part of this question is - What about the EEOC lawsuit? The one that is filed by a pregnant female attorney who was in the office of the FOP and was discriminated against because she was pregnant and driven out by the union officers. They are apparently also already in the deposition phase. The FOP could lose very big on this cause of action.
Good luck to the two officers who filed, they have every right to file. Wouldn't it be interesting if the FOP has to write a monthly rental check out to them for the use of the building!
Gotta love when a cop will hammer the family of police, or any other good citizen that made a mistake. But the gangbagging shithead with no DL or insurance, the copper will give them a pass because they don't want to do a TVB and tow the shitheads car.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A deputy U.S. marshal was killed in a shootout with police officers, who had stopped the agent for driving erratically early Sunday, authorities said. One officer was wounded
Mary Fisher, 46, refused to stop when officers tried to pull her over and led the officers to her home around 6 a.m., according to Sgt. Vince Higgins, a police spokesman.
When the officers told her to get out of the car, she opened her door, pulled out a gun and started shooting at them, Higgins said.
Officer Patrick Taylor, 34, was shot in the leg. He was taken to a hospital, where he remained in stable condition.
The other officer, whose name had not been released, was unharmed.
Both officers have been relieved of duty while the investigation continues.
Fisher was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said they could not say how many times she was shot.
Fisher had been in Memphis for several years and began her career as a deputy marshal in the early 1990s, according to the U.S. Marshal's Office.
"Nobody saw this coming. No, there's no prior history that I'm aware of that would have brought this on," said David Jolley, a U.S. Marshal spokesman.
Sheriff's deputies went to Fisher's home just before 10 p.m. Saturday after a woman there dialed 911 and hung up.
Fisher was gone by the time they arrived, but a work associate at the house told deputies Fisher was delusional and had driven away, according to a joint statement from the sheriff's office and police.
Her car was spotted a few hours later driving recklessly near a crash scene police were investigating, authorities said.
The officers called for assistance, and Taylor and the other officer responded.

To make a long story short, a J.O.Copper wrote my wifes Uncle for going through a Yellow light upon returning from the cementary after burying his Father. The Copper said"Well since he's in the ground now,you don't get to go through intersections without stopping." I was already in the Banquet hall and did not witness this, but did read the ticket.The next day I went to 16 2nd watch roll call and spoke to then Sgt, now a N/W side Tact Lt. who pulled the guy out off roll call and stood there while I was able to "question" this ass about his actions. Then the Sgt "spoke" to this individual and come court day, all was taken care of. This was back in 95/96.They just don't make bosses like they used to!But it is a shame that after all we go through,there are some Coppers who just don't get it about personal courtesy.
How hard is it to use the Dudes cell phone and call the alleged family member up? There are alpha files in all the districs or use your computer to look up the guys name.A courtesy call can happen on the streets as well in the station. I'm just saying that if you want to go the extra mile there are ways to verify/disqualify a named being dropped.
If true about the FOP female attorney, she is not the only female FOP ran out. Anyone remember Podgorney's sec. that handled med. issue's, good background in labor and was a prior union steward with a big company. Doherty dumped her out of the blue. Reason just not workin out! The only problem is that the asshole coppers that you tell to "GO FUCK YOURSELF" but are not given a ticket get CR's.
Last week, far south side district, jerkoffPO cuts across 3 lanes of traffic, nearly causing a crash, right in front of marked car. When he's pulled over, he doesn't immediately id himself and has an attitude. Eventually the onduty gives him the attitude back and sends him on his way. What does jerkoffPO do??? He goes into the station and gets a CR.

I stopped a Lt.'s kid the other day who I know was scoping out a garage or home to burglarize..he has several theft and burglary arrests in his past..am I supposed to give him courtesy? You have to look at every situation as it is, sometimes people don't deserve any courtesy, just because it's a cop's family member dosent mean they're not going to act like a jagoff and deserve to be locked up..

The FOP exercises it's CLOUT and power by dropping potential contender for the presidency from UNION ROLLS. Sounds like what happened to maria Santos when she was thought a threat to da mayor. Also dropped from state thanks to Mark $'s Donahue $165 k a year now.
Don't forget at the first board meeting of the new administration all the inside guys were voted an additional $500.00 a month just for attending meetings they should be going to. Sounds like a nice side job, actually doing your job.

sometimes parents or family don't mention the police connection until after the citation is written. My dad drives like shit and won't say his son is a cop. He just goes to court and fights the ticket and usually wins.

very true i've had the occasion to write a citaion to a po's daughter because of a traffic accident and anothers father during a seatbelt mission.neither spoke up about being related until i came back with the ticket. however all worked out in the end in court.family members have to be taught to tactfully mention the connection before we leave with their license and head back to the car

One issue a a time -
The professional courtesy goes towards minor traffic violations, not criminal charges such as burglary (mentioned earlier). Next time you see the kid staking out a garage, stake him out. Let's face it the garage he is about to hit is probably one of ours.

Maybe the cop's dad who is not a retired cop-a retired city worker- behaved in such a manner so as not grace himself with "professional courtesy" I personally have been treated less than human by some fellow officers family members. Not to mention-the members of officers families are sometimes criminals- o wait so are a lot of fucking cops!
