We Have Made a Powerful Enemy
Evidently, we have a new fan. Someone took offense to what we wrote about Susy Schultz, the current reigning "Stupidest Human Being." The fan in question is Bill Dwyer, a "crime" reporter for the Wednesday Journal, a weekly newspaper that serves Oak Park and River Forest if we are reading the headers correctly, and the owner of the Chicago Parent Magazine article we linked. Bill was kind enough to contact one of our readers with the following comments:
- I just read your post on the cop blog regarding responses to the Suzie [sic] Schultz column, and I have to tell you, you're the only one who didn't come off as a raving fucking moron. Care to speak with me when I get back from vacation and start working on apiece [sic] about that online sewer? Or do you think the so-called law enforcement officers who spouted off on Ms. Schultz actually represent the average cop in Chicago? They don't need attention from Internal Affairs, they need psychiatric help. Oh, by the way, I'm a journalist. So I guess that means, if you believe SCC, I should be lynched. If you don't share that sentiment,, [sic] give me call [sic].
Then Bill contacted us personally:
- You got a name, SCC? I can see you've got opinions.
We replied:
- sure, everyone has a name. even us.
You see our rapier-like wit? Short, to the point, truthful. Bill wrote back to us:
- Uh huh. But only journalists have the guts to actually use theirs, apparently.
So evidently, we are soon going to be famous all over Oak Park and River Forest. Whoopee! In the meantime, we'd like to answer a little more to Billy. We have names Billy. We choose to remain anonymous for various reasons, not the least of which is the tendency for this city and its political masters to wreak havoc upon the private lives and careers of those who stray from the party line or criticize the powers that be. This is our little tweak at them. We know for a fact that the Superintendent has been briefed on the existence of this site and IAD trolls it regularly. We have stated numerous times (visit our archives) that we cannot prove anyone who posts is a Chicago cop, let alone a citizen of our fair city. We have readers from four continents and we are linked at numerous pro- and anti-police websites and a wide variety of the political spectrum of blogs.
We will repeat here for your benefit and the slower segments of our readership that we have never posted anything we are ashamed of, we have never posted anything from Department computers, and we doubt we've ever posted anything actionable. We monitor this site for maybe an entire hour or two a day and it runs unattended the rest. We delete what we find offensive, we delete names upon request, we delete stuff that might make our grandmother uncomfortable when she visits. Otherwise, it is what it is - a board where anyone can visit, anyone can post, and anyone can share info.
So, we look forward to Billy's article about us. We expect our hits will climb, maybe we'll get even more readers and we can start selling web-ads to make some money. Any traffic that Billy can steer our way is appreciated. But Billy? You aren't going to shame us. Susy was an idiot and the faster someone calls her on it, the better for her. When I got home from work yesterday evening I went on-line to find the Burge Report. I found it, downloaded it and sat there drinking coffee and reading for about 5 hours. I've been a Det since the late 80's and have worked with several guys who knew or worked for Burge. 9 times out of 10 offenders will claim mistreatment at motions. I really wanted to see how the motions & trial affected the Special Prosecutor's decision. I was sad to see a good friend of mine had been singled out for prosecution if there had not been a statute of limitations. His legal troubles are just beginning I'm sure. He is a good man and was a great Det before he retired. The Special Prosecutor went to great lengths to explain the perjury trap and basically explained why most Det's invoked when subpoenaed. If the Special Prosecutor had decided someone was lying then it would have expired the statute of limitations for conspiracy and multiple detectives could be indicted. So much for the legal genius that posted here saying that police are not entitled to 5th Amendment protections. Another poster on this site has been claiming for months that "big" bosses were going to be named and the shit would hit the fan. Jon Burge and 4 det's were hung out to dry. Burge was easy and the other 4 were nothing but lambs for the slaughter. They were sarificed for political correctness. Whether you like Det's or not, guys who work murders have their professional & personal lives subjected to a level of scrutiny that is difficult to explain with a simple denial on the stand. A few years ago a defense attorney's investigator (off duty CPD P.O.) called my ex-wife's mother and asked her if I had physically or emotionally abused her daughter while we were married. Every previous allegation against you is fair game in court. It's true of all court proceedings, but the defense isn't going to put that kind of effort into a burglary case. Murders are where lawyers make their names. Which reminds me that not one single attorney is singled out. I firmly believe there is an unwritten lawyers code where they don't make baseless accusations against one another. The report did have one good thing. It showed George Ryan for the piece of shit that he is for letting Leroy Orange walk out of jail. All this being said I opened up the blog to see what my fellow officers had to say about the Burge report. All I could find were comments about Dean Andrews, Black women, Hispanic women, the gay games and what dogs 022 coppers are. Maybe a lot of you don't get it. I don't know. I know this SCC, you have billed this site as a place for coppers to discuss, exchange ideas, blow off steam, act the fool etc. I've been reading this site since last summer when you might get 5 posts for an entire day. It was better then. This thing has degenerated to the point of no control. Almost all the posts are from clowns and miscreants. You have no control. It's just a bathroom wall. No exchange, no ideas, and no fun. It's just a 5 word insult scratched with a marker while dropping a deuce. I read it all and never saw anyone argue any such thing as your blanket statement indicates. What I saw was statements saying that a PO could be fired for taking the fifth. There were numerous citations to articles where just such a thing has happened.
Fired and convicted are two separate things. You, as a detective should (and almost certainly do) know this.
On another note, I know family members of about half those named. Very sad.
The entire report, and the media coverage so far, are a whitewash for Daley and company. The lawyers took great pains to detect other lawyers, as well as politicians. Then the media says these are the greatest lawyers ever.
Fact is, the only good lawyers in Chicago are at 219 S. Dearborn. The rest of the profession can go to hell for tolerating Daley, Devine and all the other criminals in office.

I also find the use of Jane Addams name in her article a bit misleading. Addams was a leader of social reforms, primarily for education and arts. I was the one who received the Bill Dwyer eMail quoted by SCC in the introduction to this thread.
There are posters who range the gamut from good-natured "ball busters" to vicious, mean-spirited, spineless psychopathic liars who will stoop to any level to drag innocent folks through libelous slime. Any reader must realize that anonymous blog attacks can be the cyberspace version of shithouse walls.
Furthermore, a gullible reader can incorrectly assume that most of the posters on this public forum are police officers. Not so. Indeed, there are police haters, even CPD bosses, that have a hidden agenda which seeks to discredit Chicago's Finest. Also never underestimate the treachery of CPD mgmt. to anonymously "divide and conquer".
Conversely, most of us are aware that many anonymous posts critical of the City of Chicago and the mgmt. of the CPD are simply God's TRUTH. I personally have experienced the relentless vengence of the City for exercising my First Amendment rights (126 F.3d 1024). Any active CPD whistleblower who uses their actual identity in truthful, constructive criticism of the most politically corrupt major urban PD in the nation will inevitably suffer retaliation. Like CLOUT, it's "da Chicago way."
SCC could easily require MANDATORY REGISTRATION by all posters. While I have been personally attacked by nameless pieces of shit, I urge SCC to retain the status quo, albeit with vigilant screening for the ubiquitous lunatics. Mandatory registration would only have a chilling effect on potential whistleblowers seeking to expose corruption and cover-ups.
After my conversation with Susy Schultz, I sincerely opine that she now realizes that even pre-teens can be evil little mother fuckers. Mr. Dwyer, is only coming to the aid of his colleague at Western Journal.(www.wjinc.com)

On July 13, SCC posted a now closed thread entitled "Funny Enough for the Front Page". (scroll down).
Essentially, someone alleged that CPD ADS Sandra K. Day and DDA-1 CO Patricia Walsh made a absurd command decision involving the CPD fatal shooting of an allegedly vicious dog in 008.
I later received a widely-circulated eMail with a humorous account of this incident.
I then circulated the eMail with copies to Day and Walsh.
This morning, I received responses from both exempt officers. I quote:
"No this did not happen. This is false and insulting information>" - Sandra K. Walsh, ADS.
"This 'account' is totally inaccurate." = Patricia Walsh, CO, DDA-1.
Frankly, I am impressed by the forthright response of the two exempts. As I know all too well, there are so many bullshit rumors circulating via the Internet.
Without knowing the actual facts of the alleged dog incident, I herein publicly apologize to ADS Day and Cmdr. Walsh. I will now forward both an eMail apologizing and citing my post.

You will always look at the law enforcement world with a respect for what they do, only grown over a lifetime of knowing. Never think for one moment that you are escaping from "the life". You are only escaping "the job" and we are merely allowing you to leave "active" duty.
So what I wish for you is that you ease into retirement. But, in your heart, never forget for one moment that "blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God." You are still a member of the greatest fraternity the world has ever known.

About 5 years ago I had a relative call and ask if I would go with her to look at a house in Glennview. I took the drive just up the road from the Skokey court house.
1500 sqaure foot, brick bugalo on a 100 by 200 foot lot. Nice house, nice yard an a major 4 lane street with lots of traffic. I told her it was a great house but I did not like the street. She told me that the owner offered her a great deal though. I asked how much, she told me only 1.2Mil. I almost pissed myself.
She said BUT ITS IN GLENNVIEW. Now maybe with the nice big lot and the condition of the house the real value of this place was about $200,000 to $250,000 at best. Now I am shure the owner found some moron to pay over a million dollars for this house.

Upon arrival the black policeman knocks on door only to have the black family refuse to open door, and instead calls police again to request the "real police"-white officers- be sent. Prior to coming on this job I worked with, and drank beer with, more than a few black co-workers who knew I was only months away from taking this job. They had plenty of advice for me. Sadly, one thing I heard more than once was of thier mistreatment by black policemen. From stealing twenty-dollars on a traffic stop, to indifference on a call for service. These same black co-workers stated they were generally treated fairly by white coppers.
