Few Heat Related Deaths?

We didn't hear much about anything except how well the City was doing during the current heat wave. Certainly a far cry from what happened 11 or 12 years ago where the Department was running what seemed like double shifts on the wagons just to keep up with the bodies. Any word on the total damage?

Of course, ComEd's wonderful infrastructure and capital improvments kept up with demand - barely. We eagerly await the day when the nuclear industy finally finds it balls, crushes the "green" opposition and environmental lefties and gets us away from coal and Mid-East oil - did everyone see they're predicting $4 a gallon gas? What's it going to take to get us off this roller coaster? Nuclear energy.

Dont count your chickens,

It may take a few more days before the bodies start flowing in. If you remember the last heat wave most of the victims were not discovered until several days after the heat wave.

I had to laugh yesterday listening to the zone. Well being check after well being check. Dont get off your dead ass and check on grandma your self, call 911 and have the police do it for you. What a fucken joke!

Come November, it's Todd Stroger (D) v. Anthony Peraica (R) for President of the Cook Co. Board.

And you expected.........? It's just typical bull shit. They find campaign fraud and illegal funds being collected by his office, or by illegal means and they still fully back him for November. Well, looks like our taxes will go up again because the President of the Cook county Board is a mindless terd. Chalk up another failure for the Democratic Party.

Mary Mitchell
Sometimes our relatives are just bad blood

July 18, 2006

BY MARY MITCHELL SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST Advertisement

We need to keep away from our wayward relatives. You know the ones I'm talking about. The adage: "blood is thicker than water" may have rung true decades ago when black people had only each other to depend upon. Then black people saw each other as family. When they made their way up North, they ran to relatives and strangers alike. Both welcomed them into their homes.

Unfortunately, today, many of us can't afford to be that generous.

As the shooting death of Latasha Hassell, 22, clearly shows: When we open our doors to relatives who are unworthy of our trust, they can drag us down into the squalor with them.

Too often, when these relatives get into trouble with the law, we scrape up the bail money even when the person is guilty. When family members get snared by drugs or drink, we feel guilty when we can't rescue their children from the child welfare system. And when hardheaded cousins disappoint their parents by dropping out of school, getting mixed up in gangs, or having a baby too early, we treat them like the behavior is fine.

That seems to be the attitude of Prince Brunt, the husband of Latasha Hassell. Hassell was the young woman who was killed early last week -- allegedly by her husband's teenage cousin. Her husband has filed a wrongful death suit in federal court claiming that a Chicago Police officer fired the fatal shot.

Granted, the circumstances that led to Hassell's death were chaotic, but the cousins appear to be at fault. After Hassell reported to police that the couple's home was burglarized, she and three family members went looking for the thieves. They spotted the suspects, including the cousins, on the corner and were there to identify them when police showed up.

As police were handcuffing a suspect, the two cousins ran off. A family member tackled one cousin, but the other allegedly fired a gun, striking Hassell in the chest.

Brunt was apparently on the scene because he told reporters: "When the shot went off, I went down. My wife said she was shot, and she turned around and fell," he said.

Police did their jobs

Although family members initially said that a police officer fired the shot, a .45-caliber handgun believed to have been stolen from the Hassell home was recovered at the scene. The spent shell cases matched that weapon, while both police officers were armed with 9mm handguns.

Last week, police arrested Brunt's 16-year-old cousin. The juvenile has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder of Hassell. The 22-year-old was the mother of three. Those children, Prince Jr., 5; Tache, 4, and Princshon, 2, are motherless; Brunt, a young father, is now a single parent, and the entire family will have to help take up the slack under circumstances where a relative on the father's side is being accused of taking the life of this mother.

Obviously Brunt can file a lawsuit.

But is it really right to blame the police for this terrible chain of events?

The police officers were responding to Hassell and Brunt's claim that their own family members had ripped them off. Had police driven off without trying to arrest anyone, people would have pointed out the act as another example of how little police care about crime in the black community.

In this instance police did their jobs. They tried to make an arrest. Suspects ran. A gun was fired. An innocent victim was killed.

Treating tragedy as lottery win

Yet there's another factor that contributed to this death that wasn't mentioned.

Since handguns are illegal in Chicago, the .45-caliber handgun that was allegedly used by the shooter shouldn't have been in the couple's home in the first place. You could argue that Hassell would be alive today if that gun had not ended up in the shooter's hands.

Too often personal tragedies are treated like a winning lottery number. For instance, an equally sad situation recently happened in Tallahassee, Fla.

The family of a 14-year-old boy, who died last January while being disciplined at boot camp, has filed a $40 million lawsuit against the Juvenile Justice Department and the Bay County sheriff's office.

In that case, the sheriff's office rejected an offer to settle for $3 million. A videotape purportedly showed as many as seven guards pummeling the boy. The case led to protests and to the shutdown of military-type boot camps.

Yet it should also grieve his parents that their 14-year-old boy put himself in that situation by stealing his grandmother's car -- from a church parking lot no less -- and by violating the terms of his probation.

If guards abused him while he was in the state's custody, they should be punished.

But his death shouldn't make his parents instant millionaires.

Frankly, we could solve half the problems plaguing black communities if a lot more people took responsibility for the conditions they cause.

And a lot fewer people looked for someone to blame.

There will be no heat rea
lated deaths this year. The mayor issued an executive order which has the power of law. It is now illegal to die in a heat related way. he doesn't want to be embarassed.

Rumor has it that all deaths related to the heat have been removed to a secret La Grou wharehouse for storage until winter. They are being treated as Missings until they can start popping up in the cold weather.....

Hey, anything is possible when you have too much time on your hands. Now back to my fine hispanic poon.

What Happened: They all took the annual oath to lie to the membership. Then they got drunk.

Who was elected: The guys who got the drunkest and did not puke or pass out.

By law changes: Drunkeness is a requirement to run for office. Members of AA are prohibited from running. Lying to the membership has been formally instituted by a unanimous vote of the Board.

How much of membership dues was used to keep the beer mugs full: As much money as it takes to keep those drunks there until they were able to vote themselves drunk.

Who laid who: No one got laid, they were all to drunk.

The fire department was called to hose them all off and hose the filth out of the building.

Now you know.

Former Vice President Al Gore, the inventor of the Internet, has figured out a solution to both the Energy Crisis and the Greenhouse Gas/Global Warming Crisis. Since, according to Big Al, the greatest danger to the Earth's atmosphere is Bovine Flatulence, (Cow Farts in the native parlance)(His quote; From his first book)
and since Cow Farts are flammable,
(An energy source) every registered Democrat will be issued
a 50 gallon plastic garbage bag to hold over a cows ass. This will have the dual effect of protecting the atmosphere and trapping an energy source, which since the dawn of time has been heretofore wasted into thin air. In deference to his devout political apostle, Mayor Richard M. Daley of Chicago,
Blue Bags will be used. In order to maximize Democrat political gain and minimize wastage, they will each bear a photo of Hilarious Goddam Clinton, the next Democratic candidate for President.

Well Here is the answer you punk assholes, get you asses out of the ghetto districts, bid t0 16 or 22 and show the world what a man you are. I am pretty sure the offender is going to die. (good riddens )He is a SD gang member who was in a stolen car. These aare the gentler and kinder cops who came on from 1990 on. They have no clue about anything, they never did anything and all they do is complain about non existent law suits they heard of or non existent criminal trials of POs they heard of. They are good for writing POs tickets ( Hey Burton and Austin), they complain about everything and their idea of work is a contact card, a curfew, and some parkers.
