Casino? Ka-Ching?

Channel 2, Channel 5, Channel 7, Channel 32, Tribune and Sun Times coverage.

But who is going to see the benefits?

The last time the State tried to open a casino on the 10th riverboat license authorized by state law, disadvantaged minority investors such as Mrs Walter Payton, Mrs Roger Ebert and others were the only beneficiaries along with a couple of organized crime figures. And now a land based casino?

Look into whose pockets the money is going to go. This isn't about money for education or property tax relief or anything like that. Look what casinos HAVEN'T done for Atlantic City and other municipalities. Trying to balance a budget on gambling revenues rarely works. Even in Vegas.

I heard the River Boat is set in motion for Chicago Lake Front by 2009. The Illinois State Troopers already have things lined up to work security ($$$ oT). Lodge 7 is trying to get things in motion to open it up for cpd. Casino's suppose to create umpteen jobs and lots and lots of revenue for city. Good, put some of that crazy profits towards hiring more police and paying us more money and on time. I'm sick and tired of F*c*ing RETRO's. Be Safe!

Give the casino license to the OUTFIT. Who knows better how to fleece the suckers. Oooops, my mistake. Give it to the phony reverends Jackson, Meeks, Slime Coleman, etc. all past masters at fleecing their flocks!

According to what I just heard on the news, the casino would be based in Chicago but the city wouldn't own it. I'm unsure how revenue would be distributed, but I'll bet my last quarter that Springfield will get the lion's share. If it's not going to primarily benefit the city,is it worth it?

I am all in favor of casino gambling. All you would need is 2-maybe 3 casinos downtown for the conventioneers and tourists. Just look at how much money Joliet and Elgin are raking in. If done right it could be a big asset to the city and state, and keep my taxes down, which I am all in favor of. The question is who would control it, and could it be done right. If that can be worked out, let the dice roll!

No matter who wins in the fall, expect a big increase in gambling. The state has serious money problems (Blagojevich is bankrupting us) and rather than massive tax increases, the politicians both here and is Springfield have decided that more gambling is an easier sell to the public. Judy Baar Topinka is just getting out front on the issue.

I thought the Ill State Lottery was supposed to get the state back in the black. It was to go the the schools and we wouldn't see so many increases in property taxes.....right????

You better believe that Daley and family will get the cronies in, be it Walsh construction or Maggie's friends who own concession stands in O'hare, or any other suck-ups from Bridgeport. Oh yea, the rev's will demand their piece of action, too. Maybe you'll see a retired cpd boss get the security contract. Same shit, different day.

I think putting the casino at the Lakeside center (east building) of McCormick place is a good idea. They keep building more monsterous buildings west of there as part of McCormick place and the union charges keep driving away the conventions. It doesn't make any sense but then again I am not thinking like a bureacratic theif. At least the casino would help pay for these albatross the city keeps building to pay their dues to the other "connected" contractors.
