Good for them. Now they can face the music, however it is played and give their families some relief. It will all come to conclusion and hopefully Justice will be meted out fairly.
Whoever asked, "Would you and your family be able to come up with $300,000 in a week?" is all ready convicting these guys. First, they were arrested on Sept. 7th. That's three weeks from the day JF and KH made bail. You don't think their parents, in-laws, brothers, and sisters have any savings at all? Their parents and in-laws most likely have homes which are paid off, and could easily get a home equity loan in no time. The average bond for your everyday murder is 250,000-300,00. You only hear about the million dollar bonds on high profile murders the media are interested in. Their bonds were outragous to begin with. They were accussed of using their office to commit crimes, right? So if they were stripped of their police powers how are they still a threat to society? These guys also had to prove the source of bond, which 90 percent of defendants don't have to. Ask any ASA at 26th Street. All judges are former attorneys. Most defense attorneys get paid at the conclusion of a trail, and their pay comes in the form of a 'CBR Attorney' court order. That's a cash bond return to the representing attorney. So what the defendant puts up for bond goes to his lawyer as legal fees. Judges don't like to take money away from fellow lawyers so it's very rare to have a source of bond hearing. Listen, if they did what they are accussed of then f%*k them. But I'll reserve judgement until I hear the testimony at trail
These guys should never hae been let out on bond. The fact that they have been stripped doesn't reduce their danger to society. These guys are skilled and clearly they know how to put their hands on guns if they're looking. They've still got contacts out there and buddies who are stupid enough to feel sorry for them having to go unarmed, who will lend them an unregistered piece thinking that it won't be traced back when it gets discovered. These guys, particularly Finnnigan, are not about to set on their hands. Anybody know if monitoring or house arrest was a condition of their bond?
You could easily come up with that money unless you are a moron. You have a house, you have a pension, you have (or should have) a decent Pebsco account, you have a car, you have savings, you have friends and family. You can find a bank on any block to front that 300k with that sort of security to back it. Do you have any financial sense or are you one of these coppers who spends every dime on his car and loft while putting $25 in his Nationwide account. This is never going to trial, they will cut some sort of deal and get on with their lives after a short prison stay. Look at Mata, that drug runner served 3 years for running dope from the south to Illinois while he was the police and now he is out. Big charges, big headlines, big bond and then it all goes away when they plea. The real problem will arise if one of these guys rolls over but I doubt they will and hope it wont happen. They were given an unfair bond and posted it, the real shame is that so many fellow cops seem upset that these guys are home with their families.
JUST A TIP: IF YOU ARE GOING TO SPOUT OFF YOUR MOUTH WHILE SITTING AROUND AT 26TH ST ABOUT THINGS YOU HAVEN'T A CLUE (IE WHICH SOS GUY IS SUPPOSEDLY A "RAT")THEN YOU REALLY SHOULD KNOW IN WHOSE PRESENCE YOU ARE SPEAKING. I HAD THE HONOR OF SOME F/4 DET FROM A/4 TRY TO LOOK ALL BIG IN HER BRITCHES SAYING SHE "KNEW" THE "RAT". LITTLE DID SHE KNOW I AM FAMILY OF THE PERSON SHE SPOKE SO LITTLE OF. I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN OFFENDED IF SHE WERE JUST CITING FACTS, FACTS ARE FACTS AND CAN'T BE DISPUTED. HOWEVER, SHE WASN'T EVEN CLOSE. ON THE OTHER HAND, THERE WAS A STAND UP GUY M/1 FROM SOS THAT COUNTERED HER CLAIM, BY SAYING HE KNEW THIS GUY AND HE WAS A 'GOOD GUY'. IT'S NICE TO KNOW THAT EVEN WHEN EVERYONE IS ON A BASHING BANDWAGON, THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE THAT DON'T GO ALONG WITH THE CROWD AND HAVE ENOUGH BALLS TO SAY WHAT THEY THINK. THANKS!
10:24 If between you and your family members you do not have access to 300K, I feel sorry for you. Even if you do not know how to save at all, home equity, deferred comp??? Nothing? That's sad.
I agree, most shitheads, esp dope dealers, wouldn't have to reveal where they get their $$ for their high-priced, flashy attorneys, nor for any type of murder case. I've made arrests on embezzlement/theft cases in the hundreds of thousands and not once did I hear a judge query the source of the bond money. Obviously the judge placed such high bonds because the subjects are all police officers. If these guys are guilty of this sh$t, they deserve what's comming 'cause they make all of us look bad. However, they didn't commit murder and are accused of over-stepping police powers and theft.
trial?????? what trial????? these guys are all cutting deals right now...they are not gonna roll the dice with a trial...their attorney's will get them the best deal based on their COOPERATION!!!
You people are either stupid or are not the real police. They only had to put up ten percent- JUST LIKE EVER BODY ELSE. It is not that hard. You can put your home up if you ahve to. What, they could not raise thirty thou legit? You people are pathetic.

Ten percent would be 300 thousand not 30 thousand. If they learned math where you did, then no..they could not come up with it. Let me guess, you are one of the officers with a degree.
Mata is a real name from the past. . nicest guy in the world. As I recall, he was the runner between Florida or Tennessee and Chicago and most of that was while he was in the Marine Corp not while he was CPD. I also seem to recall that he got a light sentence because he gave the Feds the information they needed to make their case on the big fish. So I guess you guys would call him a rat. . . I don't see it that way.

It was 10% of 3 million, 2 million and 1.2 million..........
about the female spreading rumors she doesnt even know about.....this just goes to show how low people have become on this job. we have some cowards on this department who will always talk behind peoples back, but dont have the balls to say anything to someones face. and because their selfesteem is SO LOW they have to black-ball other people and attempt to give them a bad name. i say good luck to those people. (and you know who you are) because the kind hearted always prevail without saying a word, all we have to do is our job. eventually we thick skinned give you enough rope, you'll hang yourselves. all we say is keep talkin, you look like a COMPLETE fool to all those around you. we are laughing at you, not with you.

It's three hundred thousand...Einstein. The biggest problem with the job!! Unqualified/Uneducated people on the job. They never did, nor will they ever accomplish anything, but they sure do talk a lot!!
Good luck to all of them, not just the four that are out, but the others involved in all of this. Again, innocent until proven guilty, AND I cannot see any of the four guys arrested saying anything, pleading any deals, if they know they are innocent, the truth will prevail. Once again, they are being made an example, lets face it..real police work is over on this department...

The reason they had him running the dope was because he was the police. He could show the badge and ID when stopped for speeding or any other traffic violation which he did on several occasions - all part of official records from his trial/deal. He met them while in the military, he did his work while CPD.
"nicest guy in the world mata" a few brief facts and apologize to the first jar head you run into for associating this army felon with the Corps
Chicago Police Officer Pedro Mataterrazas II started working for a drug-dealing friend even before he entered the police academy, packing cocaine into hidden compartments in cars headed for Nashville, Tenn., prosecutors said Friday. Once Mataterrazas, 31, graduated from the academy, he took on even more responsibility, prosecutors said, as he made at least 10 trips with cocaine-loaded cars to supply one of the largest drug rings in Nashville. The officer, also known as Peter Mata, pleaded guilty Friday to taking part in the drug trade. He faces at least 10 years behind bars when he is sentenced next year. Mataterrazas worked briefly for Chicago drug dealer Luis A. Ayala Jr., 30, in 1994, before entering the Army. Then he started working for him again, just before he joined the Chicago police, prosecutors said. The officer was suspended without pay after he was arrested Sept. 14 as he headed into work at the 21st District. Police now will start the process to have him fired, a police spokesman said Friday From shortly after the officer started on the force in March 1998 to late January 1999, Mataterrazas after work would drive to Nashville with the cocaine, some loads weighing 330 pounds or more. After making his delivery, the officer would either wait to have the car loaded with as much as $1 million in cash, or, if that couldn't be done soon enough, would fly back to Chicago to work his police shift. He would return to Nashville for the cash. Prosecutors said they had evidence linking Mataterrazas to the Nashville drug ringleader Barry Sanders, including the officer's cell phone records showing numerous calls to Sanders' pager. Investigators also found that the officer was living well beyond his means
Remember that when and if any of you out there ever have the unfortunate experience as these 4 officers, hopefully others will give you the benefit of the doubt. This is a F$%*ed up job we have to endure at times but remember we are all part of the same Police family and if anyone should think in this manner is us as Police Officers. Those guys did a lot of great police work that everone seems to forget. I guess if you knew them you would judge differently.
To the stupid ass talking about putting your house up for bail, thats only for federal charges the SOS guys are being charged criminally dumb ass and 10% of 3 million is $300,000 not $30,000 your a retard.........,and your calling people pathetic WHAT A MORON!!! WE REAL POLICE are praying that you guys are innocent of these f'ed up charges. i cant believe any moron can spout unsubstantiated stupidity on this blog!
