Unintentionally Hilarious Title?

- Will Chicago stay be able to stay on budget?
Bwahahahahaha. Oh man. Hold on - Bwahahaha. Let's just run down a short list from the tops of our heads (this is no where near accurate - point out our errors in the comment section):
- 911 Center - budgeted something like $150 million. Final tally - $300 million and it still doesn't work right
- Millennium Park - budgeted around $150 million or so? Final tally - $475 million and a parking garage that couldn't pay off it's own bond issue.
- O'Hare modernization project - budgeted at $6.6 BILLION with $2.8 BILLION slated for phase 1. Final tally - we're still in phase one and it's already $400 million OVER budget.
Someone with more time on their hands that we have can pull up the numbers for Navy Pier, McCormick Place, Meigs Field, any of the new police stations, Headquarters with its collapsible floor, City colleges, the list goes on and on. And to repeat ourselves, Olympics LOSE money. Huge amounts of money. Regularly. Only Los Angles in 1984 made a dime.
So the answer to Channel 7's question would be "No."

the public building commission of chicago is responsible for the forecasting/budgeting/financials of all the structures mentioned in the post. if you were to meet the people who are staffed at that place (with the exception of a few who know what they're doing), you'll know why everything is over-budget. you have aldercreature dorothy tillman's niece as a project manager (initials KB) who had no clue what a "blueprint" was, but yet was staffed to run several projects. then there was another project manager (initials YY) who got there b/c his wife is daley's fitness trainer. almost forgot, they created a new position - chief of staff - a while ago so that the new executive director could hire one of his buddy's at six figures a year. yep, that's chicago for you.
To the citizens of the Peoples Republic of Chicago. Chairman Daley knows whats best for you.
So what if he gives jobs that are required to pay a high salary due to the title of such.
Citizens you needed Millenium Park and the bean, the OEMC, and the new police and fire stations have been built with the finest materials and the best trademans money can buy.

The city has double standards.
If the US Attorney can send people to jail for_______ fill in the blank, WHY didn't somebody go to jail for the Millenium Park deal?
I'll give you one example...'RACISM!'
No, not the one the blacks blame whitey for, how about the opposite spectrum.
Example: The city had to hire a percentage of minority contractors for Millenium Park. They were hired for one reason. I just said it. They were an ** alleged minority [black owned firm]that were hired to do concrete work on the underground garage. Well, aside from the fact that THEY were responsible for being over budget and not in keeping with the on-time completion date(s)[understandable] when their work was finally checked it was found to be so far below necessary standards it was considered useless & dangerous! The concrete mix was NOT in keeping with the plans and would/could not be expected to support all the weight above it. Note, that this was not an architectual design flaw but a cheap-ass shortcut that was later found out through inspection.
After lengthly negotiations, they finally fired the company and had another one take over.
After much testing they found that they could not 'fix' the problem, they had to 'COMPLETELY REDO' all the work by Sanford and Son. Remove all the concrete supports and start over! YOU figure out the cost and time overruns on that one.
The best part was Fred and Lamont had the nerve to sue the city for not completing the minority hiring agreement!
Based upon the law suits filed vs. the city concerning the po-lice, you can bet they settled out of court.
My question again is, WHY didn't anyone go to jail for this? Talk about 'criminal!'
