From the Sunday Chicago Tribune, Metro Sect. 4, p. 3.

Daley receives mediocre grades

Tomorrow, the BGA, et al. releases a 216-page report entitled "Developing Government Accountability to the People".

A Trib excerpt follows:
"According to the report, the (Daley) administration deserves failing marks in two of seven categories: ethics and corruption, and criminal justice.

The report cites ongoing federal investigations of public corruption and alleges that Chicago police have 'shown no interest in addressing the rampant abuse that still exists within its ranks'".

Condolences to the family of former Loyola journalism professor Ed Rooney, 82, on his passing.

Ed was the police reporter for the old Chicago Daily News when Big Rick and I took him on a "ride-along" with our 1800-0230 hrs. power car in Fillmo' circa 1968.

Just out of the parking lot, we rolled to the first of three shootings (2 fatal), a couple of 10-1's and robberies-in-progress, ad infinitum. The old Zone 4 was really humpin'--on a weeknight yet.

Ed sat cowering in the rear seat. Just before mid-tour, we assisted on a "man with a shotgun...more tickets on it, shots fired...a man shot" at Lex and Independence.

Ed had had enough. We dropped him off at the SH with four more hours to go.

Even though he was "media", Mr. Rooney was a kind-hearted man. He wrote a nice piece on his "Fillmo' adventures" the next afternoon.

Because if you are going to associate names with indictments, it'd be nice to see some proof or info that actually leads us to believe that you know something the rest of the world doesn't. You post the same damn thing half a dozen times a night, we're going to erase it. Every. Single. Time.

We censor what we want to. We counted last week - 98.9% of the posts submitted made it to the blog. That's a pretty good percentage. But it's our blog - we decide what goes up. And bullshit about two people we've never heard of that doesn't follow the topic at hand just doesn't make the cut.

You've been educated. Try to learn.

Copied from a response regarding the current Sgt. testing. Obtained under the "Freedom of Information Act"

Due to the litigation filed in Federal Court regarding the arbitrative way of scoring some questions, the City is awaiting a legal opinion from the Corporation Counsel in regard to proceeding forward with this test or nullifying it.

What's up with that fat fuck lieutenant working as watch commander on the 3rd Watch in 005? The guy is fatter and uglier than a walrus has the worst 70's haircut and a grease-smeared white shirt tearing at the seams. Went in to get an arrest report signed while fatty was knee-deep into a trough of chicken wings and told me "get out of my office, can't you see I'm on lunch? I don't want to get the keyboard greasy." Hey jumbo, I don't think those pork sausages you call fingers can even work a keyboard! And lose the attitude asshole, us P.O.'s are the backbone of this department. Go ahead loser, have your grabber and die.

What's good for CPD should be good for CFD...or one would think.

At 13:00 saw a CFD SUV with "Aviation Services" on the side parked in a TOW ZONE at Chestnut and Dearborn (NE Corner). It was covered in snow, so obviously it had been there for a while. At 19:00 it was still there. Not faulting my bretheren in 018 for not doing anything, but if S&S is towing CPD cars of officers on duty, who's the goof CFD who is so important that he can park illegally no where near an airport ("Aviation Services").

Inquiring minds want to know...
