Change in St Jude's Route?

Anyone care to confirm this from the comments section?
  • Did anyone notice that Special Bulletin "From South Chicago to Gold Star Park." According to the bulletin, the St. Jude march is not going to be on Michigan Ave this year. The parade route will assemble at Gold Star Park. That's understandable, but I'm gonna miss Michigan Ave though. It will be a special day, as it always is, no matter where we march. Stay safe.
Personally, we prefer the Michigan Avenue route. Yeah, parking was sometimes a bitch, but at least we were out in the open, down in front of the ritziest shops in the middle of all the lakefront liberals a few thousand strong. Sure, most of them were sleeping, but it was a great show for the early rising tourists who were always impressed by the show.

Now, if this is true, it looks like we're going to be shunted out of the public eye and visible only to the dedicated joggers out on Sunday morning. We're sure they aren't going to shut down Lake Shore Drive just for us so we have no idea of what kind of route they're going to try. Even Roosevelt Road to LSD means we're only showing off for the Maxwell Street vendors. And where would they have Mass? McCormick Place? Lovely.

Who's got the legit info?

It's the 75th Year of the St.Jude March.
It deserves something 'special' to commemmorate the anniversary.
Frankly, since it was moved to Holy Name { I've been there every year } I would guess, aside from the exempts, sucking up to the Soup., there were less than 75 coppers in attendance at mass.
Let's hope that this 'special' St. Jude is well thought out or it will be outed right here on SCC.
The idea to familiarize our members with OUR memorial park is a good one however, as we need to honor and respect all those that made the 'Ultimate Sacrifice.'

For those on the fence for visiting Washington D.C. 'this year' [WE will honor Eric Solorio] American Airlines has [as of 2/22] ROUND TRIP airfare to D.C. for $88.00 !!!!!!!

Check it out and either book your own hotel airfare or contact the sgts. on the Sgts PBPA website for info on their hotel info. There are two members listed that have the info.

Remember Our Thin Blue Line!

who's fucking brainstorm was this? i wouldn't bitch that much if they "did" shut down lsd for us to march on. like shut it down in one direction and re-route the other. all the traffic on the other side would be in viewing distance.

If you think parking is a pain when we marched on Michigan Avenue, wait until we all park in the Soldier Field lot and try to exit at the same time. I may miss my first St. Jude in 21 years.

I think the march should go south on State St. from HQ. down to 55th st. turn right and go back to Sox park to finish. Why tie up downtown traffic??

Let's just hope most of the coppers participating in this year's SJ march will be healthy enough to complete it. If coppers are going to walk from Memorial Pk.
to Holy name, there will be a number of medical roll call ins the following day!

Is Daley going to make us pay for parking at the lots around Soldier Field like he did for the Police Memeorial Run? I guess he was too busy taking kickbacks to pick up the phone and ask his buddy who manages the lot for a favor.

Taken directly from the last paragraph of the Special Bulletin, "From South Chicago to Gold Star Park:"

On 6 May, 2007, the St. Jude Police League March will step off for its 75th anniversary, but this time with a new parade route. In respect to their fallen comrades, Chicago Police officers will assemble, appropriately, at our magnificent Gold Star Memorial on the lakefront just east of Soldier Field. The Department tradition will continue as we hear the familiar call of "fall in."

According to the entire Bulletin, the parade route has changed many times before

They are going to allow us to park at Soldier Field at a reduced price of ten dollars a car. Boy oh Boy the Mayor is a swell guy. I going to vote for him twice.

Why shouldn't we tie up downtown traffic, every other parade is allowed downtown but now we can't? it's bad enough they have so early, as to not tie up traffic.

Scc,
Normally I agree with you. But on this issue I will disagree. Marching along the lakefront, whether it be on LSD or the bike path - as long as we are marching togther and ending our parade at the memorial, that's what counts. Let's face it, only our families show up at the parade along michigan ave and some random tourists. Occassionally you get the random supporter - but only occasionally. So we have already come to terms (or at least I hope we have) that we are not marching for the celebrity-ness of it all. We are marching for our fallen brothers and sisters. Those that shall never be forgotten. We will never be able to rely upon the Daleys or the Strogers (or insert clout name here) or (unfortunately) even the citizens of this city. We can only rely on each other. So let's march together in an area that we have designated to be ours, the memorial.

Must be another daley decision or his thieves that surround him! The route on Michigan av. as stated in this blog was great to make the yuppies and tourists observe this great tradition! Now what will we walk maybe toward the lake and along the shoreline hidden from view?

Got some info from a friend in Special Events at City Hall. He says the rumor (he maintains its pretty factual) is the Mayor is pissed FOP and the other bargaining units failed to endorse him so he told Cline take your men over to the memorial. My source says the Mayor was not to pleasent as he gave the round one the news. Sounds a little bit much, but with this little asshole its entirely possible.

Remember the march is for no one other than us. Show up for those who have preceeded us in death.

Memo to 2/23/2007 07:24:00 AM

Are you f-ing nuts. Most of us would either have heart attacks or be picked off by the inhabitants if we took your proposed route.

IF WE HAVE TO PAY $10.00 WE SHOULD BOYCOTT THE FUCKING MARCH!!!

This is Daleys way of screwing the police for not having the FOP support this election.

Instead.. the FOP should pull a permit for OUR own march.. NOT THE DEPARTMENT'S.

Anyone who pays ANY money to park on May is an asshole.

Everyone seems to be concerned over the prospect of walking from the Memorial to Holy Name for Mass. FORGITABOUTIT!! We can all just grab a ride with Phil and the rest of the exempts who I'm sure will have one of their many drivers standing by to pick them up. As a matter of fact maybe Phil and Dana could send out both of their city paid cars to help out (in case you didn't know, each has a Ford and an Explorer and drivers for each).

Just park on LSD, not enough Tow trucks in the city to hook them all.
That would make a real nice Monday Morning Eition LSD Shut down@ the Police Memorial in prtoest of having to pay to park While Honoring their fallen.

I wopn't hold my breaththo

I agree with not paying to park at our own march and I do believe it's another swing at us for not endorsing his royal majesty. In ten years I have never missed this march and I won't miss this one either but there's no way I'm paying to be there.

SCC:
I would have to agree with yesterday's poster at 1:34PM. This march is for US. It's nice the media come out and provide some coverage, but the main supporters are always US and our families. And I feel it is appropriate that we kick it off from the Police Memorial (God knows, the Dept. has shaken a whole bunch of money from us to build it!). I for one will gladly accept this route change, and proudly participate, as I have for the past 2+ decades!!

If this dept or city had any balls, we would be marching down LSD or michigan ave at 5pm on a friday nite...they let protesters do it!

We don't march for tourists, its for the fallen, rather walk among the honorable dead at the memorial than the screwed up living.

Coppers can not only START a rumor...they can embellish it to the max!
NOBODY [of importance] said you would have to pay to park [knock off that BS]

The (2) dedication ceremonies already held at OUR memorial did not require any fees to park.
Don't expect a fee to park on St. Jude Sunday either.

The march route is still not published, so all we now have here is 'speculation.'

The main thing is to PARTICIPATE, plain and simple.

Make a statement...show up, be proud and remember Our Thin Blue Line!

A boycott would be an insult to the families of slain officers, don't do it! they come down year after year to watch us march. I am proud to go every May and show my support for them. They appreciate that they are not forgotten by us, the members! and quit talking about how the only reason you go is to get checked off for spring inspection, it is insulting.

Does the route of the parade really matter? My son considered it an honor to march in this parade. His name now appears at Gold Star Park, I only wish he was able to walk with me.
