George Ryan's Appeal Coming
- Did U.S. District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer "abuse her discretion" when she replaced two jurors -- after eight days of deliberations -- for concealing their run-ins with the law?
That likely will be the focus of questions from the judges of the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals today, when they take up the convictions of former Gov. George Ryan and his friend Larry Warner.
We didn't (and still don't) expect Cook County juries to be screened any where near properly as the entire system is corrupt and rife with crooked judges, attorneys (on both sides), and riddled with political hacks. But we were surprised at the time that Federal trials didn't do background checks on jurors as a matter of course. We haven't heard if they're doing it now, but they ought to be.

FOP endorsed George Ryan. What is FOP's position on George's case? Glenn Poshard is a good man who cares about the police. "Let'em Go George", demonstrated his concerns for the police by his pre-trial antics regarding the prisoners in IDOC.

The happiest day in my life will be when I see George Ryan walk into prison to begin his sentence. Having said that, it really doesn't matter if he dies before he serves his sentence because he will be forever known as a convicted felon.

I highly doubt that Ryan will ever serve a day in prison. If he ever decided to tell all, big Jim Thompson and all the other crooks at Winston & Strawn would be right beside him in jail.

Personally, I don’t give two shits about George Ryan. He will forever be known as a despicable person. History will not treat him kindly. He will be another in the long line of disgraced Illinois Governors; Kerner; Walker; Ryan; and soon to be joined by Blago and hopefully Little Richie.
What really gets me are the two unscrupulous, lying, back stabbing, unconscionable, lawyers at the forefront of his defense. Jim Thompson made his political bones on the backs of a few west side coppers back in the 70’s. I’m not saying they were a pure as the driven snow, but they weren’t all that bad. He fabricated evidence against some of the guys who were just bit players in the whole scheme. He used his position as US Attorney to bully many a copper. Then we have Mr. Webb. This ignorant piece of dung left all the crap going on in this city continue right under his rather large nose and obnoxiously large lips. Each of these fools who so self-righteously pontificated the sanctity of the law in the past now take the position that this murdering (yes murdering – he is fully culpable for the Willis kids period stop) deserves a new trial. Why you ask? He deserves a new trial because the Judge dismissed a completely incompetent woman from the jury. Just listening to this woman speak tells us she has the common sense of a flea. Probably has a history with one of the asshole murderers Ole George let go and has a misguided sense of compassion for him. It wouldn’t surprise me if a little jury tampering wasn’t going on.
These two-faced fools are the ones who truly deserve our contempt. I saw Thompson on the street the other day and attempted to confront him but he ducked into the Federal Building before I could catch up. Maybe some day I’ll get another opportunity.
