Stories from Comment Sections

A couple of stories we've been keeping an eye on and looking for more info about. From the comments section - please excuse the all CAPITAL letters. We didn't type it, we just thought it might deserve front page exposure:
  • LISTEN TO THIS B.S.!
2 FEMALE PO'S RESPOND TO A DOMESTIC THE FEMALE [citizen] SPITS ON ONE OFFICER THEN CLAIMS SHE HAS AIDS, THEN PULLS A BOX CUTTER ON THE OTHER CLAIMING SHES GONNA KILL HER,,THEY DISARM HER AND GET KICKED A FEW TIMES TOO WHILE PUTTING HER IN THE POLICE VEHICLE. WHILE IN THE STATION THE [citizen] SAYS SHE IS GONNA GET HER GD BOYFRIEND TO KILL ALL OFFICERS OF THE DISTRICT AND TRIES TO THROW FECES AT THE OFFICERS TO GIVE THEM AIDS AND SHE ADMITS TO THE W/C SHE WANTED TO SLASH THE PO'S. EASY AGGRAVATED BATTERY PO RIGHT? NOPE WATCH COMMANDER CLAIMS THE POLICE ARE MAKING UP STORIES AND SHOULDN'T WORK TOGETHER ANYMORE AND TELLS THE ON SCENE DICK THAT OFFENDER WILL BE RWOC!!! WTF!!! THIS IS 100 PERCENT TRUE..DON'T GO TO 007 people

    2/16/2007 02:39:00 AM

Half way through the story, I knew the punch line would be Mary Rozell. Easily the worst, most dangerous W/C in the city. And this nut wonders why she can't keep people on her watch.
We know we have readers in 007, even if they don't have access to a computer during work hours. Anyone got the scoop on this?

Next up, we're going to paraphrase a comment we were asked not to publish as it was typed, presumably so we didn't inadvertently ID the writer:
  • Shooting in 012 at 18th Place and Hoyne. Gangsters shot at a car and it's learned the Beat guys did a contact card that night. Tact gets the suspect who confesses, surrenders the gun and the second shooter. Dicks take a statement but the ASA is pissed that she's missing nap time and pushes the offender to lawyer up. ASA refuses to charge - no exempt override.
Again, this is paraphrasing and who knows what axes are being ground in 012 and Area 4 lately. But does anyone have info on this one? If we're getting exempts refusing to back their officers and ASA's refusing to charge felons, we really need to start bringing it to light.

re: the story about the case in 007...don't know what happened at the scene or in the station, but, as I understand it, the offender was rwoc and taken to St. Bernard's, then later transferred to Jackson Park Hospital (psych unit) for follow-up; she then uses a phone (herself) to call police and ask to have a report completed (beaten up by the police). No report, no CR (case already handled in 007); why she wasn't charged at first, then put into the system (let a judge decide if she needs some treatment/ evaluation), instead of a w/c deciding that (mental health expert?) is beyond me. Now, if you're asking for posts re: M.R., you'd better start another post...

Numerous rumors that several female "employees" at 35th Street met with a large lawfirm to possibly file a class action sexual harassment lawsuit against 1st Deputy D/S for numerous unprovoked sexual advances. Isn't this the same person who is trying to hand out huge suspensions for some ridiculous bs that happened in 015 several months ago? What a joke! Talk about cleaning up your own backyard!

If the 007th district stuff is true, and it might well be, then the officers have to go above the W/C, call Area 1 and get a them on the phone. The dicks don't owe anything to Rozelle. And if for some reason that doesn't help, call operations command and get a deputy on the phone. If he or she won't help, call FOP and have them step in. There are so many young officers in 007, not to be insulting, but they have to get enough confidence to stand up for themselves. What are they going to do to you? Make you work in 007? God Bless the officers over there.

I didn't notice that there was a dick on scene. If the facts are true as reported, the dick should call felony review. If felony review charges them, Rozelle, regardless of her intent to not approve probable cause, will have a very hard time releasing anyone. If be some stretch of the imagination that the bitch gets RWOC anyway, felony review can still indict her. Sometimes you have to reach out to one of the good ones over there and they will help you out. God Bless the kids in 007 and the United States of America!!!

If this is true, WOW. Well, I hope a sgt in 007 ensured that an exposure form was filled out. I have NEVER put a beef on another copper or boss, but given the circumstance, I hope that someone put a cr on that wc....the po's are VICTIMS. Their case report narrated as victims is to be assumed as truth, just as any other victim on the street. Even if you KNOW the narrative given by the drunk crackhead on the corner is bs, the report is taken as truth. Why is it different for a victim po? I would generate cr. Now. And go iod and get tested. And fill out an agg bat po report, name the offenders, and if the wc wont approve charges, go to court and get a warrant yourself as a victim. Or give it to some po's on a different watch. I know the Cpt EK would take care of this in a heartbeat!! Unreal!! IF this story is true, may I suggest that a little dog poo on the underside of a personal car door handle can go a LONG way....here's thinking of you!

I am not fimilar with that W/C in 007 but if its the same one that came over the air last summer at a huge 10-1/Riot asking why so many cars were down at that location and wanted people to clear themselves as p/o's were screaming on the air that they needed help with a large crowd that was throwing bottles and rocks at the police she should be fired!

Goes back to "Do NOT do any Police work for this City"! The City does NOT want Police solving crimes! It wants revenue and that's it!

IT'S THE TICKET REVENUES THAT ARE MORE IMPORTANT THEN SOLVING CRIME!

How much time on the job do you guys have to believe this, you ain't figured this shit out yet?

How many times has the Watch Commander in your Ditrict tell you guys during Roll Call that we are down movers and parkers?

If I got a dollar for everytime I heard that statement in roll calls, my house would have been paid off long ago!

Yet, I have NEVER heard a Watch Commander in all of the Districts or Units that I have been in tell his people that we need more Arrests! That never happens!

I hate to play arm chair quarterback, but if the part of story is true about the box cutter being pulled on the officers, that bitch should have been Swiss cheese. At the minimum, she should have been pepper sprayed.

The saddest part of this whole story is since this bitch got away with this once, she’s gonna do it again to some other officers no thanks to that affirmative action, merit hack, captain.

about a year ago, i brought in 4 offenders that were positively identified by the victim as the individuals that did approach him on the L tracks strike him several times and then rob him. after all reports were completed and presented to 1 Capt. Roselle, she asked if i asked the offenders for their stories. i responded with "yes, they said they didn't do it." she then attempted to RWOC due to the fact that i was taking the word of the VICTIM over that of the offenders. i thought that is kind of what we do everyday. i say all this to say, that bitch needs to have her bars ripped off her sleeves and shoved up her freakin' meritorious ASS

Sorry guys but as a W/C, I agree with Rozell. Don't like her but got to give her the benefit. From the discription of the event given, its obvious that this woman is a mental and needs to be hospitalized and medicated. If you think about it, an involuntary hospitalization will keep her off the street for at least 14 days - no trial, no lawyers, just a P.O. and a doctor signing her in. Other than the fact that her "victims" are P.O.'s, this is not an aggravated battery and would likely get downgraded once it got in front of a judge. I didn't see anything about a complaining witness, i.e., civilian victim, so it was all in-house. If charged, this offender wouldn't have been accepted in the lockup and 007 would have had to put a prisoner guard on her at the hospital (other P.O.'s inconvinced) and a mittimus obtained so that county would have to take over the prisoner. It sounds like at least a 2-day prisoner detail and for what? Because a couple of P.O.'s either let the situation get out of hand in the first place or weren't using their commonsence and failed to take this woman to the hospital and have her admitted themselves.

Rozell did the right thing and should be applauded for having the stones to do so. . .

Just my 2 cents.

12: 02am You partially correct, crazy offender with AIDS was sent to St Bernards but not admitted as a mental, when the W/C found this out she called the dicks back trying to cover her ass. Meanwhile she did get admitted not for a psychological problem but because she had homicidal tendencies toward the arresting PO's stating over and over again just like she stated to the watch commander "i hope i gave that bitch AIDS when i spit on her, and i am gonna get both them bitches killed". Then apparently the W/C was pissed the dicks were taking to long...so RWOC

Thats completely untrue about the 1st Deputy. Why is it every story that is written on SCC to be discussed by members of our department, always somehow finds a way to negatively associate it with the 1st. Deputy. Why don't you talk about the good that he has done over the past few years and how many P.O.'s and Supervisors asses he has saved, how much good he has done for the citizens of Chicago and how many decisions he has made to help idiots like you?

I have worked with him over the years in many different venues. I know his style and that is not it. He does not have to reach out to any woman, plenty reach out to him. You are probably just pissed because one of the women you have longed for over the years is now chasing him. Yes, we know, we see her chasing him down every chance she gets. He won't even meet with her to discuss anything unless someone else is in the room. Maybe she is crying fowl because she has embarrassed herself so bad over the last month and her little feelings are now hurt, so now she is running back to you. (ha ha ha)

IF FELONY REVIEW HAD DENIES CHARGES THE WATCH COMMANDER WOULD HAD CONTACTED A STREET DEPUTY, ALSO IOD REPORTS WOULD HAD BEEN FILED ON THE TWO P.O.S AND THEY BOTH WOULD HAD BEEN TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL AND BEEN CHECK OUT, BUT THEN AGAIN 025 DISTRICT IS VERY LUCKY ,WE DO NOT HAVE MR AS OUR WATCH COMMANDER. I would have commended you for posting your opinion [as a WC] here on SCC, but even Ray Charles could see it was ignorance, not information!
You see, if you really had balls you would have backed your people, let the chips fall where they may, where they belong ...IN COURT, rather than you taking the easy way out and send them to the hosp. for evaluation.
And IF you ever spent enough time on the street YOU would have known that most hospitals [unless a 'continued' threat to themselves or another] would have let the alleged nut sign themselves out after 3-7 days.

Area 3 Det's dropped the ball big time. They really have to know who they are talking to. My cousin was the victim of a crime and I showed up to A3 to be there with her. I never told them I was a cop from out South. They were horrible and I mean that in the worst possible way. They were taking her statement and when she would answer the question they would snicker or say really?? and then ask her again as if she was lying. If another cop walked by they would stop and start talking to them about football or a bosses retirement party. Twice I spoke up and asked why can't you take this serious and I was told " watch your fucking mouth or else". Well after I heard that I decided to record the rest of the night with my cell phone. I have 1hour and 33 minutes of some really great footage. I talked to my buddy who is a lawyer and I'm deciding to either send it to OPS or put it on Youtube. I think youtube is the way to go since the last one I put on there with the cops on the segways dancing was such a big hit. This way OPS will see it sooner or later if they go online. I will put it online by Friday

2/19/2007 12:17:00 PM. You sir are an idiot. Yes, I agree that these P.O.'s might not have handled this incident properly, but that doesn't negate the offenders criminal behavior. Secondly, the court have competency hearings for offenders. Charge the offender accordingly and let the court handle the "fit for trail" aspect of the proceedings. Thirdly, part of our job is dealing with mentals, providing guard details for hospitalized offenders and obtaining a mitumis.

anyone work in 016 or 017 couple nights ago....1620 flipped out and ripped wagon a new ass on air for taking over 30 minutes to respond for a transport that he requested and was on scene with...by the time they got there it was close to 40 minutes!!! Sgt mobiled with them twice to ask their location and told them twice that he was at "Irving /Central in 7-11 lot waiting" and they said 10-4...I am not a supervisor but I'd be pissed off too and kudos to the Sgt for stepping up and letting them know he will not stand for that nonsense....Question is ...if they take 30-40 minutes to respond for Sgt transport....how long will it take for them to respond if joe citizen calls or if an off duty PO calls for help?? will they even show up?? Also...from what I have heard the Sgt is pretty easy going guy and is new to district....mabye they thought they were going to test the water...??

After 10 years in 007 M.R. arrived and destroied everything that was ever good about working in that shithole. She personally drove away EVERY good policeman in the district. She is a disgrace! I left because of her and pitty those who have to serve under her. I still have to hear that retard on the radio, but I can go to work and not have to listen to her try to read the c.o. book and misspronounce 3/4 of the names at roll call.

Having worked in 007 in the past I can believe just about any story I hear about Mary Rozelle. I had an agg battery to P.O. case there and during her interview with the offender he admitted to ramming our squad car and fighting with us as he was trying to throw a few eight balls away. Her next question....."Would you like to get a CR # against these officers?" WTF is that? Worthless, is a term I like to use for her....

Maher proves the rule that people rise to the level of their incompetence. An entire blog could be devoted to Maria's past and present missteps. It astounds me and anyone else that has worked with her that someone so utterly devoid of ability can reach that high in rank.

She works the patronage system like YoYoMa works the cello. She is female hispanic who married an irishman with rank and then held on for dear life when she rode her clout like Aladdin's magic carpet.

She is our very own Hillary Clinton - but with a gold star and an empty head.

The job in 012 has nothing to do with any conspiracy by anyone.

The Coppers in 012 did an outstanding job and the Dicks did the best they could with Witnesses and Offenders who all had credibility problems.

All parties involved were identified in a matter of hours.

The State would charge because it wasn't a slam dunk...What else is new?

Hey SCC, while working the Desk the other day I clicked onto to "Checkerboard Chat" and almost puked. If any of you think of checking it out I'll save you the trouble. This is what you will find:

"good job guys"
"great team effort, keep up the good work"
"I have never been more prouder to be a Chicago Police Officer"
"way to go, keep it up"
"excellent work"
"well, a little more CAPS would help"
"real nice job guys"
and blah blah blah.........

Obviously there are insaide cowrads running that site because it is soooo sanitized and pro company. Oh yea they do slam SCC more than once.

So SCC my hats off to you keep it up cause if you didn't matter they would never have censored you.

P.S. They are even begging officers to post on thier site BUT it has to be approved first.

Hey Mr./Mrs. Watch Commander who applauds this behavior:
You must be a real stand up boss. You're obviously more concerned about conserving police resources than in serving justice. I don't care if you have to have officers babysit this bitch for two days! What's right is right and what's wrong is wrong!!! The offender should have been charged with aggravated battery to the police (two counts). If the State knocks down the charge at a later date, so be it. I also find it interesting that you implied that it was the officers' fault for letting things get out of hand. While there are some officers that may not be experienced enough or even smart enough or adept enough at calming down a situation, the offender must still be held accountable for her actions!!! I suppose you like to blame rape victims for "letting things get out of hand." By the way, W/C, learn how to spell...commonsense!!! You are a credit to the Department I'm sure.

Name the last thing the city did to try and boost the morale of its officers. The powers that be started "Operation Just Cause". We, as police officers, are treated like these dogs on the street. We have to worry about all these idiots out there, then come into the station and worry about an inspector or a boss trying to screw us. When something hits the news or a PO makes a mistake, "Operation Just Cause" is initiated on the rest of us. Find legal parking going to jobs! Come in at 15 after the hour! Cameras in the car cause you cant tell Reverend Meeks to get back in the f.... car! (which anyone of us would of including these ahole bosses) Chase nobody in a vehicle! I can see it now....PO gets into a foot chase..bad guy knocks over some citizen.."BALANCE TEST" TO CONTINUE FOOT CHASES! Thats why understand people on this job dont want to do shit!!

12:17, you are somewhat correct, but an involuntary adimit IS NOT for 14 days, 3 at the most, and that is if the intake interviewer and the doctor are in agreement. You must never have worked in 007 because the actions of that arrestee are not necessarily that of a mental but just the normal actions of some of the englewood residents. Go back in the SCC archives to the worst boss thread, and you will see that MR was showcased, alot.

I'm a watch commander also, and you are wrong sir. The actions taken by this offender are criminal acts. We are not here to determine if a person is not guilty by reason of insanity, the courts are. This was a bad decision, plain and simple. And as a result the criminal goes free, and the police /victims are wide open for a lawsuit, with claims substaianted by thier boss.

Sir or madem....respectfully, would you feel the same way if you walked in to interview and had a lump of poop thrown at you? Or a handful of hiv infested urine? If you read your reply, it is a company line. Yes, other po's would be inconvenienced. And getting a mitimus is not a fun way to kick off a tour either. However, if bosses will not take care of po's, who will? No one. If the wc had "stones", as you describe, she would have made the decision to arrest an offender who tried to give police officers hiv, and left charging up to the dets and the states attny. In essence, she killed the process before it could begin. If the dets or attny say no, at least she appears to care about her troops. Do you remember being a blue shirt? Did no one look out for you? Maybe these officers are not the greatest, I don't know...but even if they are not, we are a family, and a wc, as a figure head of the family, needs to take care of the po's. If someone throws poop at you in an attempt to give you aids, I sincerely hope that you arrest them and that YOUR boss does not give you a hard time for doing so. I have had a similar situation myself, and it is NO fun to go home to you wife and explain that you are may have to get hiv testing. Even worse if you would have to go to your wife and explain that you may have to get hiv testing, and that the person who did this to you was realeased because the company did not want to be inconvenianced. Her actions are bad management at the very least.

Sincerely, a blue shirt that sadly realizes that this job has turned to shit, due in large part to bosses who are eager to toe the comapany line.

Contrary to what one of you wrote, I happen to believe that the asshat who taped the detective's interview probably is the police. He's unfortunately, for him, outsmarted himself. If he tries to use that tape in anyway, the Dept. will go after him tooth and nail. Bosses hate like hell when they or one of their people is recorded without their knowledge ( and a lot of time even with their knowledge). I've know of similar cases and their officer has taken some serious time and nobody cared what the officer was doing who was being recorded, including in one case deliberately letting a child abuser walk out the back door after he was arrested by another detective. The officer who complained took the time. . .

I did work for Maria Maher. I actually like her, but it is true, she screams and hollers and goes all off about little things. She gets excited about anything and responds without thinking or without coming close to her head exploding. I think she needs some medication and a therapist. After being on the job for as long as she has, you would at least think she would be able to calmly have a meeting, calmly address a hostile situation, and disagree with pride and dignity.

Do the department a favor, retire and get some help. Stop living up to the negative stereotypes that all too often reflect women.

just saw a piece on New Orleans (Mardi Gras, etc.); 2007 to date, 27 murders in N.O. (I think there were 9 shot (2 dead) at the beginning of Mardi Gras). At any rate, on a per capita basis, I think N.O. is ahead of Chicago...and it reminded me, based on my experiences, and in my opinion, the CPD is one of the best departments in the nation, in performance, competence, and experience. Why?...because so many members of the CPD are intelligent, competent, and experienced, and continue to perform in spite of unprofessional, incompetent, and inexperienced managers. Maybe it's the championship racehorse theory...the horse who is that good, who runs that fast, and continues to perform, almost regardless of the jockey who rides him (because he's that good)....Granted that the CPD only has a certain percentage of its employees (like most companies or organizations) who are actually working, producing, and serving the citizens. Imagine just how good the CPD could be if it were run well, professionally, with no political influence?

Another reason to believe its him posting is that he ran to her rescue because she's a captain and she's just another person of higher rank with an ass he can lick.

wondering....these posts about M.R. might lead one to wonder, or comment, about the competence of (or lack of) present CPD leadership. So, a question.... to the members of the CPD, given the present employee makeup of the CPD, who would make the "best" Supt., and the "best" First Deputy"? (and the question is posed in the historical context that the Supt. is the political head of the Dept., while the First Deputy actually runs the day to day operations of the CPD, or used to). Does the rank and file know who runs things and/or actually care?

To the W/C who agrees with Rozell. You eneded with that you applaud her. Well I'LL applaud your retirement you worthless clown. You have let that white shirt blind your loyalty and common sense. I suggest you turn your T.V. off and have your blond armed secretary drive you down to 35th and Michigan and see who does all the dying on this job. It's your fucking duty to make sure this is taken to the court system jackass. Since when have you bosses become Judges or psychiatrist. I have sat on prisoners many times waiting for a mittimus and yes, it sucks. But usually it was for some shitbird who claims he has a tummy ache and you guys immediately call cfd. I never had a problem sitting there when it regarded a P.O. I'll gladly sit there for days. You guys are so out of touch with the working copper it's patheic.

For those of you wanting to carry on this debate about supervisory responsibility, it seems to me that the reason most of you will never be promoted is that you don't understand the basic difference between supervision and policing. Those who are arguing that the supervisor's job is to back the P.O. are just simply wrong. The supervisor's job is to manage department resources - meaning time management, deployment (i.e., use) of personnel, use of facilities, etc.
IT IS NOT TO INVOLVE THE DEPT OR ITS PERSONNEL IN CIVIL SUITS SUCH AS THE INCIDENT IN 002 LAST YEAR. Had that Sgt. or W/C done what they should have and deferred to medical authorities regarding that young woman's condition rather than refuse to acknowledge her apparent difficulties, she probably would not be a vegetable today and several officers wouldn't be looking at civil liability or worse. Supervisors, Sgt's and above, may emphathize with you desire or need to beat the living crap out of somebody, but that doesn't mean that they have to let you or cover it up to "support the troops." If you can't write paper to support your arrest incl. the PC for putting your hands on somebody in the first place, what do you expect a WC to do? I, for one, do not intend to go down with the troops for a stupid mistake that the average PPO would know better than to make. While I am not suggesting or implying any special knowledge of the 007 incident, I haven't seen anything in all of these comments which justifies the original arrest. All I've seen was that the officers responded to a domestic and that all hell broke loose. Why was this woman arrested in the first place? How did she get so provoked at the P.O.'s that she was spitting on them? They all want to say they have HIV to try and avoid being arrested, but since you never know, why didn't these officers take this woman directly to a hospital for determination of her HIV status before exposing everyone else to the possibility of infection?

Back in the day, this was more generally referrd to as a "police disorderly." Now, since the Dept., i.e., Richardson, said not to charge people with disorderly conduct, the new DC has become "Battery on a P.O." I suggest you look at the stats and you'll see a rise in "battery on a P.O." closely eqivalent to the drop in disorderly arrests. Go Figure!

Copper shoots a guy at 63/Bishop in 04'. The incident is clear cut and everything was rolling along smoothly. Bad guy was in custody and weapon recovered. Detectives are talking with involved officers. MR is on scene and displayed no bearing whatsoever. She begins yelling at the involved officers as to who the bad guys car registered to. They responded that that they were unsure, so she starts pointing and yelling as to run the plate now. No...are you okay, nice job, etc. So many of these upper echelon bosses have no bearing, organization, self-discipline, etc. This is the greatest job, we should all be working with each other and not against.

Hey 4;29pm
Your little known facts of the case in 007 are wrong moron!! She was not charged with anything, She was able to pretend she was nutty and go home to commit more crimes against the police. It's good to know these animals can get out of anything by just pretending to be crazy because some of our retarded W/C's think they can evaluate a mental now. And i know the two females on that job and they are extremely hard working and efficent officers, are you jealous they get better arrests then you? Do you call them names because they have a good time on the job and that bothers you? Your an ass go back to being a worthless ass

who made you a fuckn psychiatrist? if someone commits a crime then they go to fuckn jail. if a judge or doctor determines that he or she needs psychiatric treatment, then thats when they go to the doctor fuck these people and fuck the f/1 bosses theyre useless i.e. CW

I'll agree with you to a point, sometimes when it's obvious they are nuts common sense must prevail, the liability of keeping them in the lockup outweighs the arrest, look at the chick that died in 002 and the fiasco that turned into, i'm just playing devils advocate on this one, and no i'm not a W/C.

Please. This wc overrode detectives and a states attny. If anything, the po's should sue the city for HER for hostile work environment and deriliction of duty. As far as 002 is concerned, lay off. I have the displeasure of being familiar with that lockup, albeit years ago, and you would have a harder time proving someone there is SANE than proving someone is crazy. There are a lot of BOSSES on this job with a Good Enough Degree...last time I checked, the GED exam did not exactly qualify someone as a professional psycologist. Lets face it....the police are SUPPOSSED to arrest people...if they are nuts, thats NOT OUR FAULT!!!! The problem is that this is a liberal city that is overridden with crime, frustrated po's, and bosses that will step on anyone to get ahead. So don't read us the riot act about company policy...you still have a badge, you still have a gun. All that's missing is the guts. Policemen work around policy to do the right thing, SOME bosses hide behind policy because they HAVE LOST SIGHT OF THE RIGHT THING. Its really too bad that you identify with management, not the badge on your chest.

No they have actually gone up because it's being reported as battery to po instead of simple battery 0454 instead of 0460, that's the reason...

2/19/2007 07:22:00 PM

Hmmmm...i'll call your B.S. and raise you a knuckle sandwich...you goof! First,i dont know of any cell phone that can record an hour & half worth of material!Second,if this is true...and i do know some det's. that should be dets. but, that another topic,if in fact, you are the police then why not mention it to the det's.if your cousin was being "mistreated" yeah, mmmmmm...your not the police!just a lonely little boy who needs attention....AH,damn i guess you win,'cuz im responding...DOH!!!!
