SOS Cops Plead Not Guilty
As this wretched saga draws closer to a court date, the rumors continue to abound:
- one more set of indictments coming down - involving supervisors?;
- every one of the people at 311 will be gone before the end of the year;
- charges will be filed with the Police Board to fire the "cooperating individuals" who've testified in front of the Grand Jury - they won't be charged criminally, but administratively separated
This might end up as the largest mass firing in CPD history. It's certainly a black eye for the Department and we'll bet it doesn't get mentioned on their blog. It's also raising the profile of one of the candidates for the Superintendent vacancy due to occur sometime this year - Kirby.
But we also have to wonder if the recent perjury by a former head of IAD is going to besmirch the reputation of anyone coming out of that office. Combined with Maher falling out of favor due to poor clearance rates and personality conflicts, Skahill is looking more and more like a front runner.

Maher falling out of favor has nothing to do with clearence rates. While the upper echlon can't admit to mistakes in the promtional process, they can stall even a "meteor's" rise!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a true outsider to Chicago politics...but won't hold my breath. Williams will be going with Cline and Starks after the election. Kirby and Grau are 3-1 odds. SCARY but realistic thought: after a 36 year old f/2 took the top spot as Chief of Police in DC, look to an openly gay man around the same age named Ron Hubberman to make history in Chicago. I give him 6-1 odds. God save the C.P.D.
Williams will be your next superintendent, and Dugan will be the First Deputy. Kirby will move up, to one of the Deputy Superintendent's spots. Possibly Molloy's job if he leaves.
Huberman will be the next Superintendent. Probably after Cline has maxed out in his rank.

It is time for an outsider to do the top job. The flawed hiring practices of the Department are to entrenched, and need to be changed. This is the biggest problem with this job. The promoting of people based on "merit" when "merit" has nothing to do with it. Lets get an outsider.
If these idiots at SOS were doing armed robberies and home invasions, then anybody who co-operates with that investigation is not a rat in my book. They are police officers doing the job they are sworn to do. That is "they are serving and protecting the community" from armed felons. The only reason any co-operating persons should get in trouble is because they were in on it long ago and did nothing about it.

My guess for next super is our 1st deputy starks....he's stroger's boy, and it's a minority's "turn" this time... will be a figurehead for a couple years then retire....Maybe williams? I am getting sick and tired of these coppers convicted by us before they are tried.
I'm not saying that some might not be guilty of some things. But I have asked around with some investigators involved in the case, and from what I have been told, with some it is a slam dunk conviction but with some of the others MAJOR HEADACHES have occured, such as po's not working when alledged crimes occured, no money irregularities found.
If they are guilty then F*ck them, we didn't need them anyway. But give them their day in court first!

He was the only one who ever took the time to write a personal note on stationary paper "thanking" the officer for a job well done and attaching it with a paperclip to the Honorable Mention certificates that he signed.
I received 3-4 when I worked for him and he did this "jesture" every time. (Not some form letter, but a handwritten note)
The guy is "top shelf". A real class act.

You have a white Fire Commissioner already. In a city with a mostly minority population, repalcing Cline with another white male is not going to happen.

This city wastes sooooo much money! Hummer? Armored car? We haven't even had a PDT in our tac car since June of 2006. Another car on another team has been without a PDT since AUG 2006. Was told that there is a backlog in repairing PDT's. Expand the mission but take away the tools. THAT'S THE CPD!

The budget cuts hit the State's Attorney Office last week. And of course, some competent, highly skilled and pro police ASA were fired. I guess Dick Devine forgot that he has an ASA in Br 42 that has 50 years of service, which we are greatful for, but would have been a great canidate to cut due to budgetary restraints. Also in Br 42...ASA Loftus, I bet you wish you hadn't run for Judge. I wonder if that is why they let you go? And lastly, my favorite ASA in Br 42. ASA Lovelace was let go too. She is/was the most qualified, competent ASA in Br 42. Very pro police, an advocate for the citizens of Crook County and made herself available should you have legal questions or in need of advice.

The Hummer is assigned to the airport and was recieved from the fire department. The purpose of the hummer is to be able to move across airport ground (large areas of grass between runways) effectively and quickly in case of an emergency out on a plan or the runways.
Will this serves as a good purpose out there, there is no reason that thing should be driven all the way from the airport to 35th just for show, what of something happened out there?

Don't know this Murphy guy. Never heard of him. But you can be promoted by test score to sgt and lt with under ten years. I came on in 1998, made sgt in 2002. Just took the lt test last month. If i do get promoted before Nov 2008, that's under ten years. There were several people in my sgt class with 4-6 years on.
the decision makers on this department have their heads up their asses.
cars are falling apart. half the cars dont have pdts or pdts that dont work.
the stations dont have enough computers to process prinsoners. 3-4 hour down time to wait for computers to become available and its not even summertime yet.
i'm all for getting with the times and coming out of the stone age, but give us the tools to do our job. dumb asses keep waisting more money like on robots, hummers, pole camera's. get your fucking priority's straight.

just because the call states "annonymous", doesnt' mean its bullshit. it means the caller at least called the fucking police about a crime but doesnt want the offenders to know their name, address or telephone #. shit, i'm the police and when i call i drive to give all the details i can, but i too, want to remain annonymous.

having never met brian doherty, i can only pass on what i've heard. i've heard he likes to drink. i've heard he gets himself in bad positions at times when he's drinking. but...everytime i have called his office, i've gotten a quick response. everytime a neighbor of mine has called him, they have gotten a quick response. so he likes to drink... does that make him a bad guy ? how many big bosses on this job are drinkers ? being a drinker doesn't mean that you can't do a good job when you are on the clock. and unlike many of the aldermen, i've never heard of him being under investigation for taking bribes or having drugs in his house.

Bullshit - 1997/1998 test was the one they instituted the "probabtion plus 2 years to take the test - 6 years to get promoted rule." If you got promoted off that test with under 6 years, you just opened up a huge can of worms in the entire testing process. There's people out there who might be owed about 6 or 7 years back pay as a sgt now.
Ramsey is coming back from Washington D.C. to take over the Superintendents job, how you like me now!!! Even money wager.

Oh yeah Brian has been great for the 41st ward. He gave me a storm blocker for my sewer and it flooded my basement. Then when I call and asked him to take it back he said no problem. So they came out rebilt the sewer and put the storm blocker back in. Next rain it flooded my basement again. Yep I will be sure to vote for that drunk.
Ramsey has no interest in CPD. He has been the longest Police Chief in Washington's history, 9 years!
He just retired, and is happy enjoying his life.
He was not made Superintendent of CPD because at that time he was loved by the police and especially the citizens of Chicago, largely because of the CAPS program. Citizens received services they normally never received. Mayor Daley knew he was creating his biggest opponent if he were appointed. He is one of the most innovative police officers in the history of CPD.
I am sure someone will find something negative to say, that only confirms my statement. :-)
He would be doing us a favor if he came back. Too much BS with any current boss to be an effective Superintendent.

The new SWAT vehicle was paid for with a Department of Homeland Security Grant. They had it at the auto show with a big sign exclaiming "Paid For With Homeland Security Funds." No shit. It was surrounded by lazy-ass coppers who couldn't be bothered to look up from their newspapers to interact with the public at the auto show. Next to them was the Illinois State Police, friendly and professional. This department is a sham.
everybody dishn out shit about Charlie Williams but I have to tell you, I worked in housing and when he was my boss, he backed us up 100%. the super bid thang was kind of a fucked up cituation, but everything else about the man was "a big positive". he supported the workers and supported his men. went to bat and went the full monty on several occassions. I've spoke with numerous co-workers that worked with Charlie as a patrolmen and he was a ballbuster back then too. I wish he would make supt. I saw the same ass-hole cops there as well and I think the entire swat team should be disbanded and a new group of people trained up. Those fucking jags could not even talk to some kids just wanting to ask simple questions. I guess they are to cool for some kids....
