The mayor's on the way back into town after yet another convenient vacation curiously timed to a number of high profile indictments and embarrassing episodes. And the Supe comes up with this?
- Chicago Police Supt. Phil Cline, still fuming over Police Officer Anthony Abbate's alleged attack on a petite female bartender, said he would have liked to take a swipe at the disgraced officer himself.
"We stripped him of his police powers. He's been charged criminally, and we're moving to fire him, and if I could hit him with a baseball bat, I would. But I can't, so I mean we've done everything we can to take the right action against him," Cline said Thursday on the Roe Conn Show on WLS 890-AM.
And then the backpedalling begins:
- When asked about the "baseball bat" comment, Cline's spokeswoman said it was a figure of speech.
Pressed about the appropriateness of the comment, considering the department has been dogged by allegations of police brutality, police spokeswoman Monique Bond went on to say: "His comments were used figuratively. It's a colloquialism used by many and shouldn't be interpreted any other way. The Roe Conn Show is a very relaxed show."

Of course he's losing it, if he hasn't already lost it (or did he ever have it, meaning effective, efficient, complete control over all Dept. operations)? Just watched another show about the scandals; commentators claim that "da mare" is very upset, in particular over the bad press. Why? because of the effect it might have on the city's bid for the Olympics...so, as the theory goes, Daley won't dump Cline until either LA or Chicago gets the US bid for the Olympics (but he's gone after that); and Daley has been described as the political equivalent of Saddam Hussein or Hitler: brutal, dictatorial, prone to fits of shouting, the ultimate micromanager (well, except when it comes to the scores of city employees, aldermen, and city dept. managers indicted and convicted on corruption charges, when he says "gee, I didn't know anything"). The commentators went so far as to say that Daley (like his father, after Summerdale) might bring in an outsider to replace Cline (what outsider with half a brain would come to this city, to serve in an administration that has arguably been one of the most corrupt in the country?)...
Look at it this way. Lets say you were that gal's brother.
Even if you thought she was a real bitch and couldn't stand her you she is still your sister. And let's say that this Abbate goof was Micky the Moop off the street who beat up your sister.
Wouldn't you be redneck honor bound to take a baseball bat and kneecap the prick.

Cline was not wrong - Donahue was wrong. He was like a little kid. Regardless of what Donahue thought about Abatte he had a reponsibilty to defend a member. Hey Donahue - maybe something like everyone deserves "Due Process."

Cline has jammed up and stuck it in the ass of every copper he possibly could just to further his career. He was and still is a criminal but thanks to deals he made, he is now our Supt. Dude was wrong 100%. He was drunk off his ass and acted in a manor that has brought disgrace to the dept. BUT he was charged with misdemeanor battery and it should have stayed a misd. But once it hits the news BAM it's a felony. What a fucking joke. I've probably had over 100 cases that a person should have been charged 100% without questions with Aggravated Battery but instead a comboniation of the det's and felony review went with simple battery. The system is a fucking joke.
One time I arrested a woman that cut her X-boyfriend with a box cutter over his entire body (top to bottom). He had over a whopping 80 staples covering his body not to mention the hundreds of stiches to boot. He had to push his stomach back inside his body until the fire dept arrived. SIMPLE BATTERY.
I arrived on a scene and heard shots fired coming from inside a house. I made entry and found a man that fell down 25 stairs after being shot in the thigh. I went upstairs and disarmed the offender and recovered his gun. The paramedics on the scene after the victim was taken to the hospital told me that if we didnt happen to come upon the scene like we did and get him medical attention so fast that he would have definately bled to death. Misdemeanor Domestic Battery because the victim was the son in law.
Just to give you 2 out of a 100 or more stories of real aggravated battery's that made misdemeanors but this copper in the bar gets agg battery when over 1/2 of his punches and kicks missed, their was no weapon, she refused medical attention and in the video its obvious she got right up on her feet and was fine. Fucking press, Daley and Cline makes me want to puke.

Cline is not losing it. He is in charge of 13,000 people, and he has to accountable to the broken rubbers too. Even though I am a cop, I am extremely enraged by Mayor Daley for not attending the funeral for our fallen fire fighter. If I was the mayor and on vacation in the middle of the jungle, I would still rush back to Chicago to honor one of our brave. Sending RH in his place was disgusting and very inconsiderate.

Da Supe might not be Patton or Churchill but he's not Rodriguez or Hilliard. Say what you want about him, but I would have said the same thing. Da Supe isn't the one putting us in a bad light, our so called fellow officers ARE!! Maybe it's time we get old school around the station and at roll call and started bringing some of these goofs back in line ourselves before they can make us look even sillier than we already do.

That is what the department should do. Go back to being old school neighborhood police. Screw all these special "elite" units. Desolve them and put all these young cops back on district watches on the street. Come on the job, well you will be on the street and not in an office. You will learn to be the police in all patrol aspects from older cops not from other kids with a year and a half on.
Get a School Unit together and during the summer that becomes the Summer Mobile Force. If there is an emergency in a neighboring district, call in a some cars from a neighboring district, not the damn TRU or other "elite" unit.
Bury CAPS and it's goofy meetings and give this a try with some a good anagram or slogan.
Cline has jammed up and stuck it in the ass of every copper he possibly could just to further his career. He was and still is a criminal but thanks to deals he made, he is now our Supt. To put him in the "US" category is one of the most asinine things ever put on this blog. He, along with you you suckhole, will never be in the "US" category.

I can tell from reading these comments that none here have more than four years on the job. I have thirty. Cline is the best Superintendent we have had. Name one better. Just one. I can't even rememebr a better one than Cline and I have gone through a lot of them.

Old school worked! But now with all this new bullshit cameras-gps-etc old school would not work! agreed though taht the youngsters should never be inside they need to learn the street first! the women that are inside especially at 35th think they are beauties maybe to some old fat slob drunken boss but in reality your not all that! this job has changed for the worse thanks to ronnie hubberman and co with all the expensive bullshit tech like cameras that no one watches etc.. many comments have been made about the cops "bitching"...I would venture to say that cops have been bitching since forever; what has changed is technology; back in the day, one guy bitched to a few others, in a bar, at the ballfield, in someone's backyard, etc.; now, with the internet, an internet blog is the equivalent of a worldwide bitch session, offering everyone and anyone the opportunity to post and comment (and there are blogs in every profession, job, topic). Now, to the subject of PC being the best Supt...a relative comment, no? I mean, judge the man by his actions, not his words...support for the memorial, support for fallen and injured officers, etc. (probably numerous examples of his good works); how about his exempt appointments (which includes captains; i.e., has he assigned, and promoted, the "best and the brightest", into positions into which they are most eminently qualified, based on intelligence, competence, experience, education, integrity, apolitical background, with no basis in politics, family connections, and outsider recommendations); what about personnel and departmental allocations (i.e., exactly where is each and every officer actually working (not "detailed"), what are they doing there, and why; in some areas of the city, if and when citizens wait hours for service, does the Supt know about it?; is the dept. organized in the most efficient fashion, with the best exempts in the best positions?; does the Supt. acknowledge those social conditions and governmental actions that he in fact has no control over (guns, drugs, gang membership/crime, refusal of gov't. to fund more prisons, political focus of the State's Attorney's office)...
I was amused by porky cline when he stated how sickened he was by Abbate. I also think Abbate is a nasty drunk and should be fired. However I'm sure you will all agree with me that Cline will pick and choose when he is sickened. It appears to me that the connected never sicken him. Mr Phil Cline please tell the public how sickened you were when your on duty Sgt from the 19th dist commited a sexual abuse, just so happened a tape showing the sgt lied and the spin began by the dept. The Sgt was sent to call back with pay. Yet criminal charge were filed? Once again we are reminded how this dept protects the connected.
