Welcome Tribune Readers!

Well, we seem to have been linked from Eric Zorn's blog. We're getting hundreds of visitors from the Tribune website, specifically a number of links from Zorn's comment sections.

Of course, the person or persons who link here are ripping on a number of the less than educated comments without regard to the realities of the situation - typical leftist and media tricks. We'd just like to clarify a few things for our new visitors:
  • We (that is to say the persons running this blog) are off duty Chicago Police officers. We run this on our own time, away from Department computers and to voice our own opinions. Yes, as American citizens, we are allowed to have opinions and even a website to publish them on.
  • We address city issues, as well as national, international, silly things, sad things, all sorts of things that interest US. The fact that we have open comments and a robust dialogue is merely a side benefit to an entertaining hobby of ours.
  • We have readers on SIX continents - the final frontier being Antarctica - and about 40% of our readership comes from outside city limits. We have been averaging about 3,000 visitors a day lately, mainly due to the fact that this is a scandal driven blog. Such is life.
  • We cannot prove, nor do we intend to prove, that every single poster on this site is a Chicago Police Officer. We demand no proof of employment to read, post and opine here. A list of users could be used for political purposes - and if you don't believe that, we've got some nice swampland to sell you.
So welcome readers - look around the ENTIRE site before forming an opinion. Please note that everything that we post carries our moniker and SCC flag. We are the only persons here freely admitting that we are Chicago Police. Everyone else, take it with a large grain of salt. Sure, we've got some trolls here, some might even be cops. But there are assholes everywhere - even amongst the media and their readers.

SCC,

I understand your rationale addressing issues to the "new" non-police readers that you ARE the police, that you don't spend tax payers time or resources running the blog and that you don't verify the identity of the posters as actually being officers. However somewhere within the content of your words or reading in-between your words, there still appears to be an effort on your part to defend some of the "less than educated comments" by blaming the "typical leftist and media tricks" and advise that all non "SCC" posts be taken with a grain of salt because they may be written by trolls, cops or otherwise.

Some of the "less than educated comments" are sometimes written by those with a racist, sexist, and/or ignorant mentality and they reflect a very poor image of Chicago Police officers to the non-police readers here.

This is NOT the station house bathroom wall that we can laugh at, take with a grain of salt, or otherwise ignore as being written by another disgruntled copper p.o.'d at a boss or p.o.'d at life in general.

As you yourself have so proudly stated, you have readers that span 6 continents. Yet, speaking only for myself, I do not take pride in knowing that the world is viewing us and judging us by those "less than educated comments."

Lets get the story on how a Lt from 025, upon being thrust into W/C after the news of the Cpt getting shitcanned, thew his button at the 025 Commander and said he quit and walked off.

Anyone from 025 care to comment?

Wow, SCC, I just read some of the comments on zorn's blog.
Don D.(3/28 12:25:43pm) sez: "We need to bring some troops home from Iraq to protect us from the CPD".
Well Don, after we(CPD) get kicked out,and the Army takes over; I'll bet it's an hour before you liberals are beefing about the boys in tan. I'd really love to see the Army go in the westside and clean up,then come to your house to take your complaint of Military brutality.
In summary don: GO F*K YOURSELF!!

I'm extremely angry reading this Eric Zorn blog. Hmm.

I wonder how many of these same people even bothered to vote? How many of them are completely outraged over many people that are supposed to be our "leaders" that done what's best for themselves and ruined our city. How about that? These "city leaders" have a great effect on our jobs, transportation, living, etc.

Every profession has some bad apples that ruin it for the majority. I think Chicago Cops tolerate WAY too much in our city. Last year in Wrigleyville, I saw many fellow Cubs drunken fans getting into it with street vendors, or other people. Yelling, swearing, spitting at cops. Or, Logans Square (and other areas), the a$$holes who refuse to move OUT of the way of emergency vehicles. One time, an unmarked car had lights and sirens going. Some jackass @ Belmont/Kedzie (I believe it was Kedzie) blocked in the cop car while having plenty of room to move over to the right hand lane. I walked up to this man, knocked on the dam window and waved him to MOVE OUT OF THE WAY.

Even in my neighborhood, an incident last year. Dam drug dealer/gang banger doped up/bloody, trying to flee and beat up on a group of cops... these cops treated this jagoff like he was President Bush or something. I was waiting for them to popt he trunk, roll out the red carpet, and offer crackers and grey poupon.

I especially like when our detectives try to get information at crime scenes. A group of people that witness the crime and even are so close they have gun powder on them, yet... nobody sees anything? Or the ghetto. Yes, the poor ghetto. Only when you go into the house, expensive leather furniture in plastic, feces on the floor and abused children. Detectives shelling out their own money to buy these kids something to eat.

So, we never here about ANY of these stories, do we?

---- By the way, I am not a cop.

I hope that the Trib readers will read the comments about what REALLY happend at Branch 50/025 the other day and put some pressure on Zorn to get the truth out there since an OUTSTANDING Captain and a GREAT Commander are taking the heat for a media created misunderstanding and flat out lies!!!!

But I guess there is a better of chance of Captain B being made Supe, eh?

I gotta tell you, seeing the front page of the SunTimes degrading the CPD every few weeks ( or more often ) is getting real demoralizing. Like it's not bad enough that the public already thinks we're all like Abbatte and Finigan!

I read the comments on Eric Zorn’s blog and many people state that they are now afraid of the police or cannot trust any police officer due to the actions of 7 police officers. So now they can’t trust the rest of us and we all have been lumped into the stereotype of being thieves, alcoholics, wife beaters, and so on.

Every year, I like to read the copy of the murder analysis report that the department publishes. There is one statistic that I’ve noticed every year and this statistic has never changed: the highest number of murder offenders every year has been a black male. So by that rational, EVERY black male in the City of Chicago is a potential murder offender. Should we not trust them? Maybe we should put all black males in jail because they might murder someone-you can’t be too careful now. I always knew that black man was bad by just looking at him. Presidential candidate Obama is black and lives in Chicago, oooh noo that would make him a murderer too.

See how stupid that sounds. It is the same as this situation and this armchair quarterbacking by the public is sad. I loved it when the media was invited to the police academy and was repeated “killed” in situations that we have to deal with on a daily basis. It’s really easy and convenient to lump us into being lazy and stupid, but there are many officers with advanced degrees or have their law degree.

I also read that we are all standing up for Abbatte and condone his actions. Every officer I’ve talked to is really angry, wants him to lose his job, and go to jail. No person deserves that treatment by anyone and stating that we are standing behind his actions is appalling and makes me sick.

The talking heads on TV have their problems too you know, but as reporters you never report it—Why is that? Do you remember Josea smoking weed in the Westside and was being extorted by the dealer because it was caught on tape—ooops. Or DUI queen Pammy Z. And good old Walter has a hard on for us too with his brushes with the law. I bet you forgot about the Channel 32 weather man putting a beat down on his wife—he gone. Glass houses folks.

If anyone writes anymore tickets to the media trucks take a pic on your cell phone to prove where they were parked. Because you know they'll lie and cry telling all that we're picking on them for no reason. And when the complaint is made at least you'll have some proof. We too can take pictures.
Isn't this sad what it has all turned into. CYA!!!!

The WGN video (Cline promises to get bad cops off the streets) clearly shows (frame 02:02) the posted sign at the entrance of the 025th District/Area 5 lot which states NO PARKING POLICE VEHICLES ONLY. The media was wrong in parking in the lot. As for blocking the east side drive to the building, there is also a sign posted there that prohibits unauthorized entrance not to mention the safety factor of inmates being brought to and from court out of the east side building entrance.

And we thought we had a bad police force in Chicago?

Iraqi cops go on killing spree
Shiite militants and POLICE kill as many as 60 Sunnis.
(Chicago Tribune - 28 March 2007)

I guess the only thing more dangerous than being a female bartender in Chicago or being a group of limp wristed professional trying to act like bad asses after a night of drinking is.....

Being a Sunnis and being pulled over on a traffic stop in Iraq!!!!

I wonder if those cops in Iraq are filling out racial profile traffic stop cards? Obama, time to fly to Iraq and stop this nonsense violence.

The news media is NOT the enemy. But confrontation is always meant with a counter. Coppers know that. Your stance, tone, demeanor can greatly influence a situation -- negatively or positively. The media has a job to do and are more likely to do it well if they are not impeded. You don't have to help, but don't hinder.

Eric Zorn was one of those in the media who participated in the past at the Academy media Day. He was also by FAR once of the worst performers, shooting innocent people when he had to make a split second decision and getting dizzy while driving the simulators during a pursuit scenario. So, he decides to talk about in his next column how HARD it is to be a reporter. Almost made me dizzy reading it. People like Eric Zorn do not like us and look at us as targets to write about. People like him are too afraid to stand up to any real criminals because it might not PC so they attack us because they know we have things to lose. Home, cars, family, etc. Makes them feel important without being in any real danger. I think a solution in this day and age of computers is to have a database of those who do not want the Police around. Have them sign up. And when they call 911 or flag us down we check their name and tell them "no", you signed up for us to leave you alone. Then they can call one of their liberal buddies to help them out.

Well if the media reads this blog...

How about you look into the new D/C of the 8th District?

Hmm...Where did he work before 8? His last job, as a supe, he watched over who? He was the LT in charge of what?

The A/4 Gun Team, correct?

Is this the same team that has now gotten into trouble, WELL AFTER the fact? I think so. Must be real nice to be the LT that helps cover up a mess then STILL GETS promoted. Holy Cow!

So, why don't you look into how this guy gets a promotion; yet all we hear is Phil Cline saying he is going to make changes. BS!! It is status quo...

Maybe you should look at the new D/C's wife..and her father, and see the connection to the mayor

To Tribune Readers:

There aren't 13,500 police officers on the street as the dept keeps making you think. Manpower is at an all time low. Probably about 2,800 short give or take. Moral down. Officer safety a big issue. Jobs aren't getting answered in time. Back logs everyday.Public is not getting the police protection it needs. Crime is higher than ever, don't believe all the paper shuffln'.

The police department makes us drive in whats called a wolf pack mission. It's a stupid useless embarrasing move on the departments end but it's used to smooze the public (smoke and mirrors).

The police department disarms it's officers in court while on the clock putting them in harms way.

Say thank you to a cop, it will make his day.

Cline has no one to blame but himself for this.

Under HIS watch, Abbate was protected, maybe due to his old man being on the job.

Under HIS watch, the A/4 gun team was quietly shipped off to other units rather than being sent to call-back. Perhaps because of the kids being clouted up (i.e. the commander's kid).

Cline will protect his buddy's kids, but if you aren non-juiced up PO, watch out!

If the Tribune and local media are just going to sit with their thumbs up their ass and tolerate rampant clout and corruption in dept. mgmt., why should we give a rat's ass in this cesspool. Even with Pat Fitzgerald, it's hopeless.

The public are clueless. All they see are Daley's flower planters and wrought iron fences. As long as the garbage is picked up and the main streets are cleared of snow, they routinely expect corruption. That's Chicago.

Anybody with career choices that comes on the job today should be fitted for a straitjacket.

Aside from Daley himself, biased P-C media coverage is our biggest enemy.

Phill Cline is a hypocrite. "Just take care of your people". But when he has to protect his enoromous "bottom" he only takes care of himself. I have never seen another Superintendent have his "huge" picture everywhere. Every time you open up the Department Internet your have to look at his face. It almost is like Sadamm Hussain, with all his statues throughout Iraq. He openly admits that he should of acted differently with the incident involving the Area 4 gunteam fiasco, but who is he accountable to... what is his punishment? The Captain in 25 is probably one of the most intelligent people on this Department. He would never protect any piece of "sh..." who we are all labled with, because of the inefficient hiring processes of this Department. Phill however, has danced around many associations with corrupted cops who he has known and protected. When is this City going to hold him accountable for his lack of leadership? How can he promote Captains who for years have not had the educational requirements? How about the Captain who took a underage female over state lines and had sex with her who is still on the job? How about the Commander who has been caught cheating with his secretary by his wife? How can they keep their jobs? No let's demote the Captain in 25 because he protected his district from the almighty Media!!! Phill says he is embarassed, I am embarrassed to look as him and know he is the head of this Department. He is an embarassment and thank goodness his tenor is coming to an end. I only hope he will have to eat his words on this incident before it's over. But his words will not contribute to his enormous, embarrassing girth. PETA should go after him for killing so many sheep for his uniforms.

Ok, can we stop with the "Abbate was protected" by CPD bullshit??

Fact: Abbate checked himself into rehab the day after he laid the smack down on that bartender. He couldn't be touched while he was in rehab - and that's not CPD "doing him a solid" - CPD could not legally get to him while he was in rehab.

Fact: The media had no right to use the entrance for the rear parking lot of 025/a5 as it is for POLICE ONLY. Nor did the media have any right to use the PRIVATE entrance to the neighboring property to the east of the station (assuming of course that the property owner was not out there welcoming in the media to his/her property).

Fact: Not one PO I have run into supports or wants to "protect" Abbate. We all think he's a piece of shit and deserves to be punished. However, he does not deserve MORE punishment because of his profession. He deserves a fair trial - the same fair trial that every other locked up piece of shit deserves and gets.

Fact I would like to see proven: The media got parking tickets for parking in handicapped spots, NOT for being the poor little innocent media.

And this message is for all the "I'm so afraid of the CPD" Zorn readers: If you are so afraid of us, if you want to lump 10,000+ into one asinine category because of the actions of a few - then go ahead. Do it. Stereotype us all.

But don't fucking bother to call 911. You don't deserve the help of the good, honest, hard working PO's working in every district, every day.

I KNOW IT'S LONG, BUT IT'S GOOD. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, I WILL REFUND YOUR MONEY.

I personally liked seeing reverend pfleger on the news stating that he has uncovered a shocking fact about the Chicago Police Department. Supposedly, every time an officer is accused of anything, all Chicago Police Officers close ranks with the Officer, no matter what. I have two minor points of contention with this statement.

First, it has only been within the past couple of years where there has been any accountability on the part of the citizen complainant. The Sworn Affidavit has done more to protect Officers than the inventor of the phrase "R/O has no knowledge." Ever since O.W. instituted the "we take any and all complaints" policy following the summerdale scandal, this system has been a damn joke. Yeah, we took all complaints. And you know what happened? Everyone began complaining about everything. A siege mentality ensued. Now, the same thing is happening. The only difference is many more of the B.S. complaints won't have to be investigated. A contributing factor to this is the highly publicized (and extremely controversial) move to put all of the Officers with a certain number of complaints into the (allegedly) non-disciplinary behavioral intervention system. Without going into too many details to prevent abuse, let me assure you that this policy and others institued recently have done more to undermine morale on this job than anything I can recall (or not recall, if OPS is asking).

Second, PHUCK phleger and his self-righteous bullshit. WE COVER UP AND CLOSE RANKS?????? Buddy, you are employed by the largest, most corrupt entity in the history of the world. Why don't you turn over a child-molesting priest to the police instead of bouncing them from parish to parish. YOUR ORGANIZATION has done more to destroy families throughout the world than the Chicago Police Department ever could. I am glad you are on the "blue ribbon" panel hand-selected by DICK daley to study the department. Without your hand in the mix, I would have to be subjected to nightly self-serving news conferences by you denouncing the Chicago Police. Instead, at least you'll get a look-see at how f'd up those like you and YOUR MAYOR have made this Department. Since you're so close to the mayor, could you do me a personal favor? Ask him why he continues to use the Police as a political tool. And also ask him to stop being such a knee-jerk reactionary. TWO WORDS: PREPARED STATEMENTS. Nothing off the cuff for Mr. COMMUNICATOR. As a final request, I would like you to ask him if he could please let the professionals run the Chicago Police Department. Just because ronny was a copper for a couple years, doesn't mean he knows everything.

Speaking of the mayor. Why does this guy get the "heads up" every time the shit is about to hit the fan? If the f'n media is bitchin' about abbate getting out without facing the media, what about DICK DALEY? How many times has this shitbag been given the news and been out of town when it broke? This is the city we live in. ALL FOR ME and NONE FOR YOU. DICKIE gets to usher out the cline era from a distance while not having to answer any questions himself, even though it's probably better that way. DICKIE talks all about accountability. SPELL IT!!! It looks like this: LEAD BY EXAMPLE. The policy of "do what I tell you , not as I do" must end if this city is to survive.

Since you put up with all of my drivel, I will give you a bonus. I feel that there is no place on the Chicago Police Department for thugs or criminals. May they enjoy their lucky-to-only-be-unemployed-and-not-in-prison lifestyle.

All I know is Phil's legacy won't be for anything he did for the Chicago Police Memorial, it will be for the lack of positive steps towards eliminating corruption. But, hey, that is the lifeblood of Chicago.

Well officers if you havent read the comments on Zorns "Blog" i advise you to do so. Im in SOS and have had to suffer through my fair share of ridicule and embarassment but it sounds as if Mr Zorn went over to Englewood and waited for the desk sgt. to clear the lock up and asked departing shitheads what their opinion of the police is. I thought their was supposed to be unbiased reporting but my God according to his "blog" we are a bunch of thugs ,citizens should start carrying guns to protect themselves from the police, we are all a bunch of uneducated undisciplined bullies that travle in packs (wolf packs... hehe!!) hunting down poor defenseless citizens only to beat, rape, rob mame and murder them. I know we are "under the microscope" now (the SOS battle cry since the indictments came down) but damn. To those citizens who bitch about the police, no were not perfect and yes some terds have crushed our reputation but for every 1 asshole their are at least 20 coppers that do what needs to be done and they do it the right way. We are just as ashamed by their actions as you might be. Anyway I will attempt to remain positive about this whole thing so all im going to say is this, ladies and gentlemen please be safe, stand together, do your job, and make it home alive. The shit heads will try to kill us, the media will try to hang us, the public will hate us city hall and 35th St will abandon us. We are all we have left. Do the right thing and make it home alive. As for you tribune readers that joined onto the fuck a cop bandwagon the next time a rapist or murder is running rough shot through your neighborhood and you are afraid to go out at night dont worry, were looking for him. The next time you hear gunshots outside and youre balled up on your floor afraid to look out your window no worries were tearin ass down the street lookin for the guy. That is absolutely UNTRUE! I'm not defending Cline here, but that statement is completely wrong. Abbate was charged with a misdemeanor AFTER the State's Attorney's Office was contacted and agreed that was the correct charge! Later, a supervisor in the SA's office took it upon himself to turn this thing into a National media circus and re-arrest Abbate ( after his office already told the Detectives to only charge SIMPLE BATTERY )!

The media allegations that ANYONE internally tried to protect Abbate is completely false, and the dirtbags at the SA's office ( I'm talking to YOU Scott Cassidy, been to the boats lately? )COULD have and SHOULD have explained what happened instead of just letting our entire Department look like asshats.

This is ALL politics folks, and we are the pawns as usual.

It's bad enough t see that tape over and over, but everyone is looking for a cover up on ths and it just isn't there. Sure is easy to make one up though, as evidenced by the fiasco at branch 50 yesterday!

To all our readers from Zorn's blog.

You're all a bunch of suckers! Yes, you have been duped and led to the side show! The show that's far from what should really concern you.

Why are you a sucker? Because the real show is playing out in federal court where one of the Mayor's prime political operatives in the hispanic community has been indicted. The Mayor hasn't said one thing about rampant corruption under his watch and now has the police department taking the heat instead.

The police "scandal" is the side show folks.

Personally I hope Abbate gets canned and convicted for what he did on tape. Now all of a sudden there's more "drunk police antics". The Jefferson Bar incident happened close to FOUR months ago! Why the delay in reporting it? Because the mayors office wants the light of shame cast upon the police department to get it off of city hall corruption. It's as simple as that.

So welcome to the show sucker! Our next act is the immediate resignation of a police boss to take even more light away from the 5th floor on LaSalle St.!

I'm wondering, what gives Donahue the right to state that the actions of the Capt. in 025 were wrong, then support the Supt. in his management of the Dept., then speak up for due process? Wrong-headed, hypocritical, inappropriate, unprofessional, irrelevant to the position of the union that represents the rank and file,.....?

Look, I'll stand up for Zorn, the "Media" and the Citizens of Chicago.

Here's why:

Zorn did many a story on me, and although I disagreed with some of what he concluded, he was fair and honest. I think he's a stand-up man, with politics I don't believe in, but one of the best journalists I've seen.

The "Media," as you knuckle heads like to blanketly refer to, never gets any cooperation with the police ... ever ... and yet they probably do more for the police than the police do for themselves. Don't expect to have any friends in the media when you guys treat them like dirt. The reporters will be nice to your face, but they will never forget that you 99 percent of the time you are rude and treat them like dirt, even if one percent of the time you actually treat them like a human being.

Reporters don't have an agenda against the police ... that's just conspiracy theory non-sense. It's the crap that Hollywood shows, and frankly, if you believe that, you're a half wit.

How many stories run in the newspaper or on television about criminals?

Who gets the word out when the police can't figure out how to hold a press conference?

Who displays surveillance footage of criminals when you can't?

Hell, which two television shows are some of the most popular -- America's Most Wanted and COPS.

What I've learned from the police from personal experience -- and no I've never committed a felony or anything much worse than a traffic ticket -- is that police will lie, behave belligerently, treat people like scum, abuse their authority, use the media to their advantage and then instantly become hostile to the media when it isn't to their advantage.

I've seen the police screw up everything from the Freedom of Information Act, to blatantly lieing about the results of an investigation.

The police live in some bizarre world that isn't what the rest of American's live in. They made excuses for everything, and rarely admit fault. The police just love to consider themselves victim heros.

Heck, while I'm at it ... I served in an Army Reserve unit with police officers. I hate to say it, but those people are some of the most morally repugnant groups of people I've ever met in my life. They cheat on their wives, beat people up that can't hire a good lawyer and have some of the worst social manners I've seen. Thing is, the authority goes straight to their heads.

Now I feel obligated to share at least two good experiences ... when my car was vandalized four days ago, the officer was polite and sympathetic, but I knew he couldn't do anything to catch the criminal.

I had an officer in Kentucky let me go after I was driving 100mph in the rain ... and without insurance. He was a veteran and I was on active duty in the 82nd Airborne. I was on a 14 hour drive home for Thanksgiving and left base without asking for permission to travel, so he cut me a lot of slack. Frankly, I've always have better experiences with Kentucky police than Tennessee, Georgia, Illinois or most others.

Last summer, I got drunk at a party and while on my way home, I decided to sit down and try to keep my head from spinning. I started to pass out and and a Philadelphia police officer took care of me.

At work, I listen to the scanners all day long, and I know the number of domestic violence calls police respond to. I feel bad for the police that have to deal with that crap.

Also, I want to draw a line here with civilian police and active duty military police. Civilian police are amateurs ... they are never to be trusted without a retainer for an excellent lawyer. Military police are stand up guys that are truly professionally trained and don't behave as though they have something to prove.

I can sum it up as this: the standards for military police are extremely high ... civilian police simply can't hack it at that level but they want the respect demanded with the title, and thus go the civilian route. Hey, it pays better and doesn't mean being deployed to a war zone.

Finally, you Chicago types. I have no sympathy for you people because you treat Southern Illinoisans like dirt. Your mayor thinks he's in charge of Illinois and is probably boy friends with Blagojevich. Chicago is under siege from Illegal immigrants and nobody is doing anything about it. It's a crime ridden city that has nothing special about it except Green rivers, yet the people that live there are some of the most pretentious, racist and naive folks I've ever met ... and I grew up in Mississippi.

No way do I believe anyone will read my entire post, it's probably mentally draining. But in case you've skipped to the end, like I do on long winded and crappy posts ...

Zorn = Good
Media = Good
Cops = Bad (99 percent of them)
Chicago = Crap

Days After Cline's Disgust, 4 More Officers Targeted

New Policy Targets Criminally Prosecuted Cops

POSTED: 5:27 pm CDT March 28, 2007
UPDATED: 7:05 pm CDT March 28, 2007

CHICAGO -- One day after Chicago's top cop said he's disgusted about behavior of some officers on the force, there are calls for more officers to be taken off the street.

More Officers Under Fire

On Sept. 16, 2005, an unarmed Emmanual Lopez was stopped by CPD on his way to work. Police allege Lopez used his car as a weapon to flee and ran over an officer.

In response, they fired 42 gunshots, 16 striking Lopez in his back and in his head.

Attorney Gus Munoz has argued all along it was an execution and a police cover-up -- he said the tire marks on the officer's pants did not match the tire from the suspect's car.

Munoz also represents the female bartender who took the beating from officers Anthony Abbate.

He said his client is feeling better physically but she still lives in fear.

According to police spokeswoman Monique Bond, the four officers in the Lopez case are still on active duty, but investigators from the police department are currently meeting with members from the Cook County state's attorney's office to identify past police brutality cases.

Lopez's attorney said she has the proof and wants the four officers involved stripped of their powers.

Chicago police said they are still working out the kinks of a new policy that would strip officers of their powers if a criminal case is pending with the state's attorney.

That new policy has led to demands from one attorney to remove four officers who were involved in a police shooting two years ago.

It is amazing that you are deciding to comment on something you know absolutely nothing about. Your experience with police has come when you have fucked up in life, when you listen to police scanners or from what you read in a newspaper. Wow...what a voice of experience. Maybe Cline should be fired and you should be hired as his replacement, seeing how you know everything police go through and how fucked up we are.

Who do you think you are? The majority of the police are great people in a fucked up city dealing with fucked up things. Sorry if we don't deal with things the way a robot would deal with them. The military police are just that...military. Our job is civilian and it is civilian for a reason. Military rules and civilian law are two different things. It takes 2 different mind sets to complete these tasks.

Refrain from commenting until you have spent a few years in a CPD uniform, going to domestics and being treated like shit, driving around neighborhoods and being treated like shit, watching tv and observing media attacking the police because it brings in good ratings...and ultimately being treated like shit.

The thing that needs to be realised with the media is that it is a private entity that polices itself. Their ultimate goal is to sell advertisements and make money. They will hunt and lead with the best/controversial story to make a quick buck, just like any business. If the media sniffs out a small chink in the police armor, they are going to run with it and make mountains out of mole hills. The only checks and balances for the media is a lawsuit for slander. However, a lawsuit based on slander from an individual vs. a deep pocketed corporation is hard to maintain with appeals and motions delaying a trial. The media is too powerful and influencial. A powerful media is not bad, but the ethics behind journalism has disappeared for money and ratings.

You, sir, need to rethink your stance on the Chicago Police. 99% of us, if you called for help, would be rushing to the seen to help you and if need be, protect you, possibly with our lives. And we are still going to do it despite how much you hate us. However, we have a voice to and we will use that voice to point out your ignorance every chance we get.

Bravo! Nailed it. I figured the City Council must have voted themselves a big raise if a media-complicit smokescreen this big was needed but they used the 'big box' ordinance to distract us from that one last time. Are a couple hundred bucks in legitimately written parking tickets more important than institutionalized corruption at the city administrations highest level? Hell yeah, when you get the win-win of distracting the people from that AND get to shit on the police dept. with a made up 'media censorship' story!
For those of you fortunate enough not to have any ‘journalists’ as friends let me share. I know a few people from high school who are now in the field of journalism. We’ve managed to stay acquainted and, let me tell you, these people aren’t stupid or naïve. When they slant, soft-peddle or bury stories it’s not because they are being fooled by the powers that be. They know damn well what’s going on. Speaking in generalities profession-wise: Despite the minority of thieves, brutes and racists in the department, come judgment day I’d rather be a cop than a member of the alleged ‘fourth estate’ if ethics, morals or just plain giving a shit about your fellow man is part of the screening process!

When are you guy's going to learn. A few years ago on a job I met an old retired Irish sergeant who was working as a night watchman at the Garfield Park Conservatory. He knew some of my relatives and we were talking for about a half hour. One thing he said was this: If the Irish can do anything well they can smile at you, shake your hand, and stick it in your ass the next minute. Pretty sharp guy the old sergeant was. Think about that the next time we elect a Nolan, or a Donahue.

To Eric Zorn: You need to take police hating lessons from the wife beating drunk at the Sun-Times. He has you by a long way. He at least admits he doesn't like cops. You pay lip service.

You, like most of the media won't tell the full story about the incident in the 25th District. The media had no right to be in the restricted areas over there.

I'm still looking for the clarification that the Judge ordered Abbate out the back door. That is on the court record. I'm still looking for the raw tape that shows the TV trucks in the handicapped only spaces.

You (and the rest of the media) want to say you are fair--then tell the whole truth.

To the downstate knucklehead who brags about going 100mph, in the rain, while AWOL, without insurance and getting let go by the KY Trooper: You are full of shit.

No trooper worth his salt would let a transgression like you described go without even a written warning.

Driving like a madman in shit weather without insurance, no matter what the reason, just shows how little you care for others. You must have been a hell of a paratrooper and team player.

I am also former military, and I rarely write servicemen, but even I would have in that case.

If you were in the Army and had a car on post, you would have to show insurance to get and renew the base pass. I also would bet you were the pride of the 82nd. Going AWOL just fucks your buddies and I want to know what happened when you were brought up on charges for the AWOL. This is, of course, after you got the blanket party you richly deserve.

As to Downstate Illinois hating Chicago, don't forget that Cook, DuPage and Lake counties pay the bills for the rest of the state with our tax revenues. I've been in many of those little downstate towns. They are full of guys with mullets, girls with bad teeth and tattoos and no economy or hope.

I'm all for the 6 Northeastern counties of IL to secede from IL and let the hillbillies survive on the revenue from the coal mines.

Taking a chapter from SCC (sorry scc thought it was needed)
To the M.P. who is held to hirer standards and abides by them
(3/28/2007 11:13:00 PM)
I was also an M.P. who is now C.P.D and held to the same “high standard” and still hold myself to such, along with the many other brothers in blue that do. If this helps I did my basic in Alabama in case you don’t believe me.

In the military as an M.P. If you tell some one to do some thing I.E. (stop running, or put your hands behind your back and they don’t.) you can charge them with disobeying a lawful order something the Civilian police don’t have. So basically the military police live in, how did you put it? oh yeah a “bizarre world that isn't what the rest of American's live in.”

On to your next comment:
"I served in an Army Reserve unit with police officers. I hate to say it, but those people are some of the most morally repugnant groups of people I've ever met in my life. They cheat on their wives, beat people up that can't hire a good lawyer and have some of the worst social manners I've seen."
I think anyone that reads this blog and served with active duty military knows that the divorce rate and adultery rate is probably twice as high then any police dept. That is why you can actually be charged with it (adultery) under the UCMJ (uniform code of military justice) (ILCS for us idiots from Illinois). Again, “bizarre world that isn't what the rest of American's live in.”

Ok this is one of my favorites you posted about yourself. You hold your self to a higher standard correct?
"I was driving 100mph in the rain ... and without insurance… left base without asking for permission."
You just broke the law don’t tell me you hold your self to a higher standard none of us civilian police can hold ourselves to and then post how you where speeding, in the rain, w/out insurance and AWOL (absent without leave) AWOL very bad in the military!!! U R an A-HOLE.
But the best part about that last little story about yourself is the big bad civilian police that can’t shine your boots (due to your high M.P. standard) cut you a break and you love him for it. Why? You don’t have to pay tickets and explain why you where AWOL.

"At work, I listen to the scanners all day long, and I know the number of domestic violence calls police respond to. I feel bad for the police that have to deal with that crap."
Thank you for feeling bad for me, before I took the test, I knew that these are things I would have to deal with. Kind of like when I joined the M.P. corps I knew I would probably be deployed and I was. So thank you for you kind words. And you really don’t know what we have to deal with until you go to a domestic and have to fight with someone for locking up her husband that 3 seconds prior she wanted him locked up. Keep watching cops, America’s most wanted, dog and all the other police shows, while listening to scanners, oiling your hand cuffs, shinning your boots and ironing your uniform. So you can be a subject matter expert, go to the academy, get out on the street and tell the boss or 15 year veteran “he don’t know shit and what they taught you in the academy…”
What do you do for a living where you listen to scanners all day long?

"Also, I want to draw a line here with civilian police and active duty military police. Civilian police are amateurs ... don't behave as though they have something to prove."
Um I refer to my comment above you can’t lock up a civilian for not listening to you. As much as I love the M.P. corps they are the amateurs, shiny boots and a pressed uniform has nothing to do with policing. And until you get a job as civilian police you have no way to compare the two so your comment is ignorant and uneducated. Oh and as far as having something to prove? Uh we called our selves “The Force of Choice”.
Had a drunk soldier show up to a gate once he wasn’t driving, dropped off by a cab that couldn’t come on base. Had an M.P. private ask for a supervisor, I showed up and asked what the problem was. “he’s drunk” said the M.P. my response was. Ok where is his car? “he was dropped off.” Ok, I then asked was he belligerent with you? “no” so what do you want to do? “he is drunk he should be arrested” I took the young soldier to his barracks and made sure his buddies took care of him. His buddies where very surprised, leading me to belive that this was an uncommon practice, for the M.P.’s on this base.
Just an example of the majority of the people I met in the M.P. Corps would love to screw over some one who wasn’t an M.P. Do some home work and ask the other M.O.S’s how much they like M.P.s Not very much. But you probably hang out with nothing but M.P’s and are scared of the other grunts. M.P.’s are some of the most in love with themselves people I have ever met. IT’S A JOB, JUST LIKE THE COOK MAKES OMLETS, JUST LIKE THE WRENCH FIXES CLASS THREE’S (sorry army lingo) (real bad leaks)

I agree with what you said about the mayor and his boy toy. But you know what this city is great. Except for Daley and his boy toys fucking it up.

And just incase you don’t read my entire blog.
Zorn: WHO THE FUCK IS ZORN
Media: doing their job making $$$
Cops: 99% good
Chicago: Da BEARS Sausage DIKTKA
M.P.’s: pre-madonas keep in mind I will always be an M.P.
You: a-hole, With some mental growing up to do.
Just for my info what base/unit where you assinged to for basic?
And for the cpd reading this blog not all of us M.P.s are as in-love with ourselves as this guy some of us do have common sense and a grasp of reality.
And this guy really upset me due to the fact that I have never wanted to go on a tirade about a U.S. service member this long.
God bless them all (even this lad) and hope they are all home when the mission is done.
