One Million Visitors
Sometime in the next 4 to 6 hours, we shall host visitor number One Million.
Of course, it's likely to be the same 1,200 people over and over and over again, but still - One Million is a pretty amazing number. Once again, thanks to everyone for your support. We couldn't do it without you all ... well, actually, we probably could, but it'd be awfully boring with no one to read the posts.

Saturday night on the south end of 016 theres a house fire. The POOO-lice show up and fire does as well. Looks like an accidental fire causing about $700-1,000 worth of damage by the small fire.
However, the CFD comes in and causes $25,000-$45,000 worth of damage to the home.(HELLOO CFD IAD).
They break out the glass block windows, rip out the cieling, and an oldie but a goodie they rifle thru the dresser drawers in the bedroom looking for a rekindle??? (maybe money, jewels, watches)
UNBELIEVABLE, I COULD NOT BELEIVE WHAT I SAW. I HAVE SEEN CFD PULL SOME BULLSHIT BUT THIS IS ABSOLUTELY CRIMINAL. I REMEMBER A JEWELRY STORE FIRE IN WHICH THE OWNER SHOWS UP BEEFING ABOUT MISSING DIAMONDS. THE HEAD CFD HONCHO ON THE SCENE SAYS " THEY MELTED IN THE FIRE" WHERE AS THE OWNER SAYS " DIAMONDS ARE THE HARDEST SUBSTANCE ON EARTH THEY DO NO MELT". LUCKILY THE JEWELRY STORE OWNER'S MOTHER HAS SOME CLOUT W/ DA CITY, AND BEEFS, LOW AND BEHOLD THE DIAMONDS WERE RECOVERED IN ANOTHER LOCATION THAN WHERE THEY WERE IN THE STORE.
Remember you can carry a lot of shit in those fire boots. CFD may tell us, CPD, how much they like us but go to a bar where they are regulars and remain anonymous, w/in 30 minutes they will be beefing about coppers, US, the Chicago Police Department, and what JAGOOOOFFFFFS we are.
Remember this next time you stop one driving a Mustang dooing 80MPH on a street in YOUR neighborhood where your wife drives your kids to and from school, the store, etc....................... and he pulls out a DL w/ a CFD ID and says "HEY' I'M A FIREMEN" like he's got cart'e blanch'e. (Yea I let him go BUT I told him the next time I see you driving like that, when I get done w/ you the only thing you will be driving is a bike"!!!!!!!
Keep the faith, stay safe both CPD and CFD, and keep it REAL!!!!!

As a 17 year Chicago Firefighter i'm dissapointed to read the first post in this thread. Not because I doubt it's accuracy. But because if any firefighter would risk his/her well paying job to grab a handful of jewelry or money then that firefighter, like cops who beat 100lb bartenders deserve to lose their jobs. Like you we don't tolerate that crap. I'm not familiar with the geographic area in question but I'm guessing that it ain't the ghetto. We have a transfer policy that is based on seniorty. Those who are aggressive gravitate to busy(fast) companies. Like crime those busy companies tend to be on the south and west sides of the city. Thats where the action and EXPERIANCE can be found. So when a fire happens in a slow or non-minority area of the city those in-experianced firefighters tend to either over react. Which I belive happened here. Or not be aggressive enough. As was demonstrated in the Cook County building fire. As for rifeling through drawers, no excuse. If investigated they deserve what they get. Stay safe. Remeber, our uniform is blue too. We work for the same city. We negotiate with the same Mayor who treats us all the same. Like shit.

You sound like a bitter jag. Apparently you are not a fireman and don't understand the nature of their job.
I could be explained why they do the things they do at a structure fire, but the concept and big words would probably confuse you.
But you must be the smartest person in the world to easily determine the cost of the damage to the house.

This has been going on for years and they get away with it! why are they not on an 8 hour schedule? then maybe we could get some jobs for union workers as a lot of these guys work as scabs!

Holy crap, that was funny and true.
About five years ago, i was working tact in a northwest side district and was going to a in progress job, lights, siren and a cfd truck would not pull to the right for us. They were just driving slowly in front of us and would not budge, so i swerved in front of them and they all got the bird. Not all cfd are our friends.
Just ask the cfd Lt. (arsonist) sittin in prison if hes our friend

Thirdly when I was on the job I found most firefighters to be friendly with the possible exception of one drunk and once during the strike in 1979
I always gave them a pass on minor traffic
