- A grand jury is investigating whether a Chicago Police officer was involved in trying to cover up off-duty officer Anthony G. Abbate's alleged beating of a female bartender, sources said Thursday.
- Investigators are trying to find out if someone intimidated a woman to keep quiet after being beaten, allegedly by an off-duty Chicago Police officer, in an attack that was caught on tape.

This particular bloodletting isn't going away any time soon. This scandal might have some legs. And as a DUI will usually catch you 30 days minimum and we can name half a dozen people who were denied this job because of DUI incidents, was there some sort of... how would you say it?... influence? clout? involved in his hiring? We're just speculating.

Friday night, March 23 The bartender/victim from the Shortstop Bar and her lawyer were interviewed on the Bill O'Reilly Show. She looked like a movie star. O'Reilly asked if he was getting cooperation from the police. He stated very little but the Chicago Police have a history of covering up. He asked what are you looking for ? Will you be going for a suite against the city? he said we are looking at that. HUH!

WLS radio is reporting 6 off duty police officers are being investigated for bar fight with 4 bar patrons last December. More bad news.......
If you get a DUI and beat it before you get on the job it doesn't affect you. You have to wait five years if you are convicted of a DUI.

CLTV and ABC-7 news is reporting that there is videotape of a barroom beating that alegedly happened in mid December. It began inside than finished outside of the Jefferson Tap bar. It said that police sources who viewed the tap confirmed that 4 off-duty officers started it unprovoked, and that at least 6 on-duty officers (2-beatcars, and a wagon) were "waved off" by a Sergeant (who was involved).
This incident/investigation has now been given "new life" in the aftermath of the Abbate beating of the female bartender last month, who was unhurt.
In this incident, the victims were Fucked up. One with broken ribs and another requiring facial reconstructive surgery.
An unnamed source said several of those officers have been positively ID'd and that criminal charges are pending.
Man it's getting bad out there for CPD. My advice..stay home and drink boy's and girl's!

That fight was also videotaped and is supposedly in the hands of CC State's attorney's office.
It doesn't sound to good..even though only 6 officer's were actually involved, as many as 15-20 officers could get "jammed up" in the aftermath and subsequent fall-out!

First time on this site, lots of angry cops here. We don't hate Chicago cops, this was a man beating up a bartender, a female bartender, 1/2 his size. He was a man first then unfortuately a cop second, thus the impact heightens in the (our) public eye. This guy is probably a live wire and how drunk was he anyhow? Does he go to this bar all the time? Live on the streets of Chicago is tough and some cops just can't stop the roiling inside themselves.

How about, go out and drink all you want. Just don't beat up the bar tender. Try to act like a fucking adult and we won't have these problems. If you have to force yourself to drink at home, obviously you already have a problem.

I am a detective and a female. I don't go to bars and act like a egomaniac oop. Frankly, I'm a happy drinker. But back to the point, that cop is a brute and an ass and deserves to be fired. But, this is not a felony battery. This is a simple battery. I don't care where it occurred. There is no great bodily harm and anyone in past years that actually received great bodily harm (ie broken bones, etc) from a battery and had an ASA reject a felony charge should be outraged. This is all about a CPD officer as an offender and making news.
Umm to the Detective Female... if you read the statute, you will see that a battery in a public place of accommodation(a bar for example) is an Aggravated Battery (720ILCS12-4b8). Maybe you should go back to Detective school honey!

As for the jefferson park incident, i find it hard to believe that it was completley unprovoked, also if these guys were not on the if PD it is not a story, its just guys mad they got beat up in a fight they probally started. lets remember this was three in the morning in a bar, not nine am at church, i doubt these guys are angels and are by no means blameless, how many bar fights happen every night with out being reported.... two sides to every story....
