Beating a Dead Horse

Or a live bartender. The story that just won't die:
  • ABC7 news has learned that suspended Chicago police officer Anthony Abbate is about to face more criminal charges. Sources say Abbate will be named Friday in a 15 count indictment in connection with the beating of a female bartender caught on a tavern surveillance camera.

Officer Abbate was stripped of his police powers and was initially charged with aggravated battery. The additional charges, sources say, will include official misconduct, conspiracy, intimidation and improper communication with a witness.

Wow. From a case that barely made "Simple Battery" to a 15 count indictment to be announced Friday. My, my, my. They must really really want to send a message to someone. Who though?

Did everyone catch the fact that Channel 2 didn't waste an opportunity to run this piece of tape over their "huge" story Thursday night? Media jackals tearing at a the bleeding reputation of the Department.

Well it starts at the top and filters down. Supt. Phil Cline back in the day was out robbing, rolling and playing the streets like a pirate. He gets caught up and then becomes a Federal informant (RAT). 10 coppers go to prison while he gets to take the 5th on the stand about his criminal activities. Daley didn't fire him fast enough, just wait boys and girls till when the show really begins.

The CPD and the States Attorneys Office are trying their damndest to squash the ongoing SOS Scandal. 12 charged, 9 (RATS) given immunity to testify against their coworkers and 34 more department members being actively investigated. Going to be a long horrible ride when it gets underway.

Abbate fucked up and deserves to get charged with simple battery. This is complete BS to use him and make him a scapegoat for all the corruption on the job.

Obviously they are going to hang him. Once again goes to show you the inequity of the disciplinary system on the CPD. If you kill someone lie and lie about it, get caught on videotape lying they promote you twice.

Anyone with a brain will do only the bare minimum in these dark days.

Unreal, now Fr. Andrew Greely is blaming the CPD and the NRA for the possibility of losing the Olympics. He essentially blames Supt Phil Cline for rogue officer misdeeds by implying that new leadership will fix the problem.

A nice way to interject a quick shot at the NRA, "The Guardians of Our Civil Rights & 2nd Amendment" by blaming an inanimate object for society's problems. Fr. Greely must never have read University of Chicago Professor John Lott's book, More Guns Less Crime.

The funny thing about Fr. Greely is that all that intellectualism at the University of Chicago think tank has deluded the good Padre's brain.

Beating a Dead Horse

Does this surprise anyone? Look at the top Supt. Phil Cline wanted to beat officer Anthony Abbate with a baseball bat for beating up the little bartender. Tell me that isn't institutionalized violence.
Great answer Cline answer violence with more violence.

DO YOU THINK SPAGNOLLA IS BEING OVERLY DRAMATIC AND REALLY REACHING FOR A LIFESAVER????? EXCERPTS FROM SUN TIMES ARTICLE BELOW:

http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/361132,car042707.article

Cops rescue man from burning car

Harrison District Sgt. Michael Spagnola joined by Harrison District officers John Dulcason and Oscar Serrano suffered "minor cuts from the glass and some inhaling of smoke" from the burning car, Spagnola said, "but we're all alright."

As they were working to take the man out of the car, "flames started coming out from the windshield, under the dashboard," Spagnola said. "Luckily we were able to get him out before the whole car started to burn."

Spagnola estimated they got the man out of the car with perhaps only seconds to spare. The sergeant believes that if the man had been in the car much longer, he would have been burned to death.

Cline was a rat with his tail between his legs back in the day, most of 35th st is a joke, remember cameras are everywhere. If you have a good partner keep it tight because you are lucky. I've had the same partner for 14 years. I'm lucky. You can go out there and tear it up with the right partner who's on the same page. If it's not fun, then it's just another job. There are alot of rats on this job so you have to keep it clean, at least for the sake of your FAMILIES. The ones you go home to after your tour are the ones that take the REAL whack when you fuck up. You take your loved ones with you when you go down, not to mention your partner. Stay safe and keep it legit because it's not worth it. Do your 25-30 or whatever and retire comfortably without having to look over your shoulder. A few bad apples make us all look bad because it sells newspapers and makes the haters watch the news. Just remember stay safe, back each other up and make it fun enough to laugh.

Question, don't you need to be acting in your official capacity ( as a police officer) to be charged with official misconduct?

Why not charge him with a count of aggravated battery for each punch he threw?

15 criminal charges, and the victim was uninjured...

I don't know Abbate, but unfortunately for him, he is going to get screwed big time, because he has became the poster boy for our latest round of scandals. One question that I have had about this incident, and granted all I know is what I read here, see in the media, or hear from fellow coppers, is if there were friends of his in the bar, and other off duty coppers that knew him, why didn't someone do the right thing and try to stop him? Maybe if someone there who knew him had interceeded and tried to talk to him all of this could have been avoided. I know, I have been in situations like this where I was the agressor, and other times the peace maker. This guy was not well served by his friends and or fellow coppers.

So if you're only making $50,000 or so a year then you can't make ends meet and "snapping" is justified?

Well, shit, we should wonder no further why the crime rate is what it is since the median household income in the city is about $40,000.

Three jobs, huh? Your friend should probably quit one of them instead of "snapping", don't you think? Must be SOMETHING about that horrible job that keeps 'em coming back, huh?

I'm sure that like OJ Simpson's ex(and late) wife, she just wouldn't listen. Uday Hussein knew how to deal with women who wouldn't listen! Somewhere now he's smiling down (or up) at Tony Abbate...
