UIC Survey

An interesting survey from the brain trust at UIC.

Wait until you get to the part about the cameras on page six! We were laughing our asses off. Statements like "Cameras cause criminals to move to other locations to commit crimes" and "The police are watching what occurs within the camera’s view" are to be rated on a scale of Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree.

And after page six, it really gets good

Go do the survey and comment about it here.

Crime can be slowed down with more lights. Put more lights on every street, alley and gangway. Enough light keeps it safe. Your homeowners insurance will give you a break for installing cameras and lights. Besides, call the police and they may show up in 20 minutes. So at least you will have it on film.

I just did the survey, what a joke. Musta been some weed addled youth who put this one together. Hopefully if enough of us take the survey they will realize the cameras are useless.

The part about working with your police department.

The CPD isn't very civilian/cop friendly. None of the emails work for the dist. commanders. Comm. Schmitz isn't even listed, Carroll is. There's only one email address for the site. what if someone wants to send in tips, problems, etc via that method?

The program to get email alerts concerning crime in your neighborhood doesn't work either after you sign up.

These cameras don't help me. Perhaps if I get murdered and the camera catches that, then maybe.
The only camera that would benefit my neighborhood, wuld be on for traffic: people blowing the lights. Cops make me feel safe, not a camera.

P.s.

19. Do you favor or oppose the following police activities to reduce crime in your neighborhood?

I checked off strongly favor on all of these. It made me realize we need: more cops and a stronger police force. in other words, let our cops do their job and then some.

Thanks for the topic. We need to show that we are not happy with the service in OUR neighborhoods and hopefully it really gets back to CPD brass.

we are part of the public. we pay taxes and pwn homes. these issues affect us. take the survey and think about how you answer cause it could be used in the future to alter our jobs and police survce in our community. I'm sure they are going to report / post these findings.

Took the survey but I live on 811's beat and we have no police except the rarely seen 811, but it is not his fault because he is usually on other beats east of here! BOTTOM LINE WE HAVE NO OFFICERS OVER IN THIS AREA!

My first thought was that giving them my street corner location and month/year of purchase makes it somewhat easy to identify me.

My second thought was that it didn't matter. As I become more and more active politically in the right to keep and bear arms, I fully expect to attract some unwanted City attention and perhaps some harrassment. That said, I don't expect it to come from my local patrol officers, but more likely my Aldercritter's office and/or CAGE.

On another topic, I'm curious as the the results of the $600,000 that Chicago just paid out for 6,000 guns which in all likelihood were pieces of junk.

How much has gun crime been reduced by this? My expectation: none. If any guns used in crimes were turned in (and I doubt it) I bet it was only to dispose of evidence.

I wonder how many used their $100 for drugs. I wonder how many junk guns were turned in to finance the purchase of a new gun. I wonder how many guns were stolen to be turned in for money (more destruction of evidence and someone's personal property). I wonder how many people are now disarmed and will subsequently be unable to defend themselves against those that did not choose to turn in their guns.

They are busy patting each other on the back and I doubt they will ever do any research into the actual results of their operation.

Its a survey to basically bitch about the CPD disguised as one thats concerned about the use of POD cameras. According to My survey-- I live at North and Long, a 29 yo male, making about $24,000 a year, and I LOVE the police and think those cameras are just a big waste of money

...The American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois hopes the search data helps it persuade state lawmakers to outlaw consent searches next year, spokesman Ed Yohnka said. He said they've made a similar push before but it's been blocked by law enforcement opposition...

Now they don't want us to search vehicles on traffic stops, even with consent.

I really can't bitch about police service on my block because I've never had a need to call for any reason, and to my knowledge, neither have my neighbors. However, I've lived on 1611's beat for just over 5 years now and have not seen a car from 016 ONCE on my block in all that time. The closest thing I get to a regular patrol is when the guy from 024 who lives down the block sneaks home for lunch.

DWLawson - I'd be careful if I were you. Some Area Gun Team, probably from a different area in which you live, will fabricate a warrant telling the judge that you have, let's say, a sawed off shotgun in your home. Their snitch told them that he just saw it. They will then execute a search warrant and take all your guns and haul you off to jail because of some B/S technicality like your registration having expired. Of course they won't find a sawed of shotgun because it never existed and the snitch was never in your home but the judge bought into it and signed the warrant.

As a male white born in chicago , roots here from the mid 1800's, at UIC I felt like a real outsider. If you are gay/lez or Muslim or any other minority you have all the rights. I remeber 6pre-911 the large anti US demonstrations by the muslim students. I wounder how many of those terrorist sympathiser students are now under-ground here in Chicago. Well this ultra-leftist think tank will only draw negative conclusions about the police. I know their results before the study is complete.

DONT TAKE THE SURVEY IF YOUR SCARED.

JUST LIKE ALL THE OTHER SISSYS.
YOU DONT MAKE OFF DUTY ARREST YOU DONT CALL 911.
YOU DONT INTERACT WITH YOUR NEIGHBORS.
YOU DONT VOLUNTEER IN YOUR COMMUNITY.

SAME OLD STORY YOU GOT A GUN BUT NO COJONES. TURN IN YOU OFF DUTY WEAPONS AND BY YOU SELF SOME NEW GOLF CLUBS.

Yeah so they put more coppers and resources in the shit holes and the already depleted neighborhoods that we live in stay that way. The point is to voice your displeasure with YOUR neighborhood and hope for some changes not for the ghetto that we have to work in.

NO Wrong WHITE SHIRT COMPANY PIMP, It's because all the programs they force down our throat are 1/2 baked 1/2assed & their only intent is to screw the PO who's forced to implement them w/ limited resources and backing.

They couldn't even put out an order on how the Goddamn Sweater should be worn.
Sorry your career& life existence has been spent on your knees pleasing the Man.

So why the push to stop consent searches?

Personally, I feel only an idiot would consent and I don't intend ever to do so.

For one reason, I value my individual liberties.

For another, I have teenagers who drive now...I don't have complete control over what may get left in my car.

I must thank whichever officer it was that didn't haul my wife in when stopped for a taillight or something like that. She opened her glove box to get ins. card and reg. and was surprised to find a pipe. She explained about the teens and luckily he believed her and let it go.

Needless to say heads rolled that night...lol.

Another technological scheme in the works- what will this one cost?

Jun 15, 2007, News Report

The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation is piloting an innovative coordinated street cleaning and parking program. Chicago's First Ward "gets a lot of commuter traffic," said an announcement on the Streets and Sanitation Web site, "especially from the suburbs or the outskirts of the city. They park their cars in the neighborhood and then take Rapid Transit Downtown." That means that street sweeping schedules aren't known to the commuters, so they get ticketed and impede cleaning.

To mitigate the problem, Chicago will be testing a new technology-based program that features solar-powered lights atop street sweeping signs. The lights flash red on street sweeping day to inform residents to move their vehicles. Then, as the sweeper passes, a transmitter triggers the indicator to flash green and open the spaces to parking once again. No tickets will be issued said the city, when the lights are off or flashing green.

"We believe that this technology is the first of its kind and that Chicago is the only city in the nation to have implemented such new, state of the art technology," said the announcement.

Just call the fusion center- no one is going to go to the extent you are asking. 312-745-KNOW. I can ask several ass-head questions as you did to try and disprove ANYTHING. If someone gives you a response- you will argue they didnt provide you with all the info you requested. You remind me of several lazy Sgts I have worked for.

long term fix....get rid of units, put the coppers on the street, let them police. Tons of 10-4 cars patrolling. If there is a problem, the captain sends cars over to fix it. You have plenty of type-A coppers, they are just hidden on tact, gangs, and stupid units. Put em on the street, let em partner up, and they will work just as hard. Its just that their results will benefit a community, not a city maintained statistical sheet. End of story.

I thought the survey was great...as long as the data is not interpreted in a way that forwards some agenda. I think it validates the survey that you have to state your neighborhood...that way, when everyone in mt greenwood states that we need more patrol, and do not favor sending our officers to englewood, and englewood says they need more patrol, the only logical conclusion is that....WE NEED MORE POLICE OFFICERS ON THE STREET. And, if poor communities hate the cameras, and the rich communities hate the cameras, guess what? THE CAMERAS ARE A WASTE OF MONEY. If this survey plays out the way I think it will, it will be an embarrassment for little dick. So, I would not be surprised if we don't hear another peep from UIC on this issue..(the city gave them a huge chunk of little italy--i doubt UIC will bite the hand that feeds)

If you are scared that your hillbilly kids are leaving dope parapheralia in your car, perhaps they should be 1. riding their hillbilly bicycles instead of mooching your car or 2.stopped and arrested, because Im sick of copper's hillbilly trash kids speeding through every stopsign in 22 while you are plowed at some stupid block party.
