- The Chicago Fire Department has banned all personal computers at fire stations amid an investigation into whether a firefighter inappropriately used his at work, an official said Monday.
The department issued a general order to all firefighters on April 2 that personal computers could no longer be used at stations.
While officials said the prohibition had been in the works for months, it was just issued after an investigation was launched into the firefighter's allegedly inappropriate use of a personal computer.

If Local 2 was smart they would negotiate for 8 hours and burn the city, because it would cost an arm and a leg to man stations with 8 hour shifts.
Next time you are at that homicide scene or cps student shot and, oec tells you to call operations comand, the first deputy, news affairs, medical examiners office and etc. Tell them "squad I no longer carry a cell phone while on duty, can you tell them I will call them when I am finished at the scene and relocate to the station to make calls". Screw the city and states attorneys office. Get a trac phone or get the phone out of your name and, quit giving it out at court to the asa's. They will not lube you before they screw you. And besides, if you are told they will subpoena your cell phone records then you have nothing to hide since you don't oon a cell phone.
The firehouse at Cumberland and JFK heard there was a Cougar loose, and did a quick tidy up.

The account we got read hat the restrictions were on the CFD computers all times and personnel computers during day hours. Do what you want on your own pc on rest time.

We dont have problems like- No backup/ shit bosses/ clout babies who sit around and watch everyone else work. In CFD you must pull your own weight and help out your fellow partners, UNLIKE CPD where people wait to take action because " Its not my job". from the horses mouth......... A fireman was chating on line to what he thought was a 13 yo girl, and set up a meeting with her. He got arrested at the meet. they tracked the on-line chat to a computer in the fire house at belmont and cicero. All fire houses have high speed internet access along with their cable that is not blocked by the department. This jackass was chating with the police the whole time while he was working.

One of the posts said that you don't need us because you get to the fires first and save the people before we get there. Maybe that's because you get time off for making a save. We don't. I'm surprised you guys don't kill each other trying to be the first unit on the scene. Oh and maybe you forgot... we're either in our house waiting to be called or at some EMS run not able to be there "first". And not to mention that you leave your squads in front of the building blocking our equipment from getting to the fire buildng. But that's ok right?

Well said...as I recall , we did have a choice when they asked what job we were applying for.
Typical coppers..we want it all, especially if someone else has it first. 27 years ago, a police officer was shot, laying in the street , no parked cars for cover, I belly crawled to him but couldn't pull him back..within seconds,he was moving because a CFD was helping me to pull him in.
So if it bothers you so much what they have or do..then listen to your mayor..quit or switch.

An 8 hour would cost the city too much $ - so forget it. As to your stupid comment about patrolling for fires - yeah right. And there are no tax dollars wasted at the firehouse. Every shift pays for their own supplies - fridge, microwave, tv - plus $20 a day for two meals - jealous fool!

Most of the fireman crossed the picket lines years ago! brotherhood? yea ok! more paramedics and ambulances are need fire goofs should be working at least 4 days a week with the fires so low they sleep and wash their personal vehicles inside the firehouses hereos not here!
Leave the firefighters alone, they're drunks, but good hearted guys doing a sometimes rough job. They really should work 12 hr. days though. They have too much down time now for boozing. Most of them just do a lot of it out of state. Like cops would if they had more days off in a row.

And working both sides I will say the Physical aspect of this job is BRUTAL, especially when you are 40years old and walk the stairs in a HIGH-RISE wearing 80lbs of gear + 2 hose packs at 60lbs each + equipt. bag at 30LB = 230lbs up maybe 1 floor or 15 floors. TRUCK work is even harder. Sure fires are down but we still do this for the false alarms and we all handle "fat" medical patients. Its not as easy as "I" once thought.
