Nice Headline
We know reporters don't usually write the headlines for their own articles, but Robert Mitchum's byline appears beneath this little gem:
- Cops shoot fleeing man
- Chicago police review authorities on Saturday were investigating a Southeast Side shooting in which an officer wounded a man after he allegedly fled a routine traffic stop and pulled a gun on officers.
- While the police officer was in pursuit, the man stopped and aimed a weapon at the police officer, causing the officer to fire his gun, police said. The man was struck by at least one bullet and was taken to Christ Hospital in serious condition.
- No officers were injured in the incident, and a handgun was recovered at the scene

The Supreme Court has ruled that if an offender is armed, then YES, the police may shoot at him if he is fleeing because he does pose a threat to the general public. I will post that decision once I find it.
That is horrible,a terrible thing to lay upon the surviving responding officers. These fine officers deserve an apology.
I think that they have more than enough horror right now without these lies being spread about them.
I know that these officers are already blaming themselves for not getting there any faster. I know as we all know, that the cards just weren't in Officer Francis's favor that tragic night. THE RESPONDING OFFICERS SAVED LIVES,THAT NUT COULD HAVE KILLED THE BUS DRIVER OR ANOTHER OFFICER,THANK YOU OFFICERS AND GOD BLESS YOU!!!
THE ONLY PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS HORROR IS THE OFFENDER,NOBODY ELSE PERIOD.
The demise of these rags can't come fast enough.

My Mitchum, the Mitchum of Phil Marlowe fame, would've kicked his editors ass in front of his family,
and then put the headline of his choosing. Perhaps this Mitchum has to answer to the drunk steinberg...
About Weis' proposal for a mandated physical fitness test, he said, "If you can't chase down my 3-year-old you are more apt to shoot a person than chase them down

When I read a comment like this,I think that J-Fed is about as intelligent as Monique Bond! I think that he and Monique have the IQ of a 3 year old and that's a bigger problem then not being able to chase someone down! All I have to say is that "It's a round world" and he's already seeing it!
He comes off like a total moron and I think the steroids have shrunk his head! I wish J-Fed and Monique many restless, sleepless nights filled with nightmares of how many more of these mutants will be shot before this year is over!
further information: Offender admitted to states attorney he had the gun and should not have pointed it at the police, and he was sorry for his actions.
Bad guy shot by police in 008 early this morning, after bad guy shoots a person on the street officers arrive offender attempts to shoot at police offender was then shot by police. No police officers were shot, job well done.
When he stopped and turned, he was no longer fleeing. Even an idiot knows that. Sorry, I forgot. We are talking about the media.

Trouble is, Weis never said that. He doesn't have kids, he has cats. That is the quote from a reverend or citizen supporting Weis's physical fitness initiatives.
You want to see bad headlines SCC?
Word is that "Talent" aka Stripper Pole Sergeant's BoyToy spend most of the night upstairs at Area 1 being questioned in the recent unpleasantness. Charges coming. Want to guess what stories he's going to tell about who his driver was that dropped him off to do his shooting?
Don't shoot the messenger. Reporters don't write the headlines to their stories, some lackey at the office does that. Reporters don't like this arrangement because sometimes the headline does not match the story-this is an example.

The media has never been your friend and never will be. It's whatever sells the story, no matter who they hurt or drag down in the process.
Believe it or not, there are plenty who support you, but when you're out there on the street doing your job, you pretty much only have each other.
Please be careful out there.

In Tennessee v. Garner, 471 U.S. 1 (1985), the U.S. Supreme Court stated:
"Where the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a threat of serious physical harm, either to the officer or to others, it is not constitutionally unreasonable to prevent escape by using deadly force. Thus, if the suspect threatens the officer with a weapon or there is probable cause to believe that he has committed a crime involving the infliction or threatened infliction of serious physical harm, deadly force may be used if necessary to prevent escape, and if, where feasible, some warning has been given."
But remember, you may not use deadly force against fleeing unarmed and/or nonviolent suspects (e.g., no shooting unarmed fleeing burglars) regardless of their status as felons.
The above is embodied in the Department's use of force policy.
My opinion is that anybody that commits a crime and then runs like the rat they are deserves to be shot in the back. No honor for thieves or criminals.
Trouble is, Weis never said that. He doesn't have kids, he has cats. That is the quote from a reverend or citizen supporting Weis's physical fitness initiatives.

CBS2 refers to the perp as the "victim."

To dispel the notion of "he was running away and they shot him in the back." I hereby propose that we have a gangbanger face away from a reporter, the gangbanger will then point his gun over his own shoulder and repeatedly pull the trigger until the gun jams or runs out of ammo. If the reporter is still standing in the designated spot we will not shoot anyone else fleeing.

Holy RM Batman!!!
How could a guy with the name like Robert Mitchum be such a [p]ussy?
It's called equivocation. Here is my favorite example, from William F. Buckley...
"... to say that the CIA and the KGB engage in similar practices is the equivalent of saying that the man who pushed an old lady into the path of a hurtling bus is not to be distinguished from the man who pushed an old lady out of the path of a hurtling bus: on the grounds that, after all, in both cases someone is pushing old ladies around."
Under scrutiny, the incident was undoubtedly a righteous shoot. Well done, office.
However, in this current climate, I question the sanity of any officer who would throw a stop on a motorist with something as petty as an expired plate.
People may get the mistaken impression that
the police were actually looking for trouble.
Thanks to Daley, J-Fed and his exempt puppets, the media and the revs, those days are long gone.
Next time, bite your tongue and grab a cup of joe.
To all officers working in 99 cars on 1st & 3rd watch. Start demanding backup on jobs ment for 2 man cars. Stop waiving off your backup. Let the jobs pile up. Make the Commanders down cars. No one else is going to enforce our contract so WE HAVE TO! If you work in the fast districts only answer your calls, they don't deserve or appreciate being proactive. To those in units were you have to get a head, make your arrest for public drinking and other BS. This is something we can easily do, and should do, that will get our message across.
All of a sudden the media has no interest in police-involved shootings. The story about the 008th shooting, just 8 hours after it occurred, was fifth on CLTV, behind the story about adopting dogs from the Iowa flood.
how about:

You've been watching too much NYPD Blue!
Chicago journalists. What are they good for?
Well, my balls itch. Perhaps they can send someone to scratch them for me. Hey, maybe there's a story in there somewhere.
Cop's Itchy Balls Lead to Itchy Trigger Finger!

I've spent most of my career in the Detective Division. While we might enter the clumsy, three syllable word "offender" on our reports, in casual conversation, most detectives use the monosyllable "perp" in conversation. We also refer to the "victim" as "the vic".
At least he didn't headline it:
COPS SHOOT BLACK MAN
IMADIC
The Keesing Bandit says---
"...You've been watching too much NYPD Blue..."
There is never too much NYPD Blue. I liked seeing all the butts on there--even Sypowitz's!
Now, kees me you fool!!!

Oh, okay, got it now. You must work in New York!!!
Cuz in the Chicago Detective Division, we don't call the offender, the bad guy, the shooter... the 'PERP'. It just sounds silly to us, but to each his own.
