Wasting Money

Daley is looking to pinch every penny or so we've heard. Have to close that $420 million gap.

You know those heavy duty trash bags? The ones touted for construction waste? Pretty expensive, right? We're getting reports of a huge pile of these things used by the CTA to gather waste, trash, debris on the el tracks and guess what's embossed on each and every bag?

A full size CTA logo.

How much do these "specialty" bags go for? And why advertise on something that's either going to be buried in a landfill or burned in an incinerator?

Its funny that the CTA was crying POOR, and then its gets its fare increase, and money from the State.

The a miracle occurs. Money is found for a new computer system that allows CTA supervisors to see where each bus or train is. Wireless applications so anyone with a cell phone can tell how long until the bus comes. Now personalized garbage bags?

Whats next?

If I had the money that the city and CTA wasted in a year... I could live very well for the next 100 years

Mayor Daley wants to save money. Talks about “Integrity” in the CPD. HMMMM???? Seems to me, our boss gets paid to do two jobs: Supt of CPD and Head of OEMC. However, he is now only Supt of CPD. Guess I just saved the City about $180K right there. Burst, and the rest of the “Fed buddies”, another $140K a piece. Hell, I’m just racking up the savings!

Since February 2008, Mayor Daley has permitted Superintendent J.P. Weis to hire four (4) of his FBI cronies at a minimum of $140,000.00 each!
Why?
There are police exempt rank members that are more than qualified to fill those positions.
Those four positions did not exist before the current superintendent was hired. Those four positions were created for those four cronies.
Superintendent Weis was hired to bring down corruption and crime in this city.
Yet, it appears that half a million dollars to his "friends" in pay is not corruption to Weis or Daley.
Fire the four Feds and if the jobs need to be filled, fill them with current exempt members of the department.
Plus, lower Weis' salary since he is now only doing one job not the two he was hired to do!
SAVINGS = $715,000.00!!!!!!!!!!

CPS uses the same type of bags. I think it’s more of an employee theft deterrent than advertizing. They are nice bags and I suppose you could turn them inside out, I don’t know if the logo is also printed on the inside of the bag.

Raising taxes has never worked and it will never work. However, if you lower taxes you are viewed as unsympathetic to the poor, as not caring about the under privileged. People of Chicago and Cook County, you better wake up..Who has been more hurt then the poor when it comes to the outrageous taxes we pay? They don't have the means to drive out of the city to buy bottled water or to avoid a 10% sales tax. They say they had to raise taxes to pay for Stroger hospital and other county hospitals so the poor could have medical care. There is no way in the world that you couldn't find enough waste to cut in the budget to more then adequately pay for these services. You better start thinking a lot harder about who you vote for.....

Anon 1:05 AM. that bus tracker software was cheap to get up and running and will lead to much improved service (less bunching) and increased ridership. It was money well spent.

Also, Google paid a large chunk of it in exchange for advertising rights.

I agree that many agencies and businesses tag 'their' property for this purpose.

However, there is no one to charge them with abuse of CTA property if they did take them home. To be a successful politico here, you have to turn in any conscience and undergo a morals flush. So there is no 'twinge' when you do things like this. Silly.

The CEO (Chief Emergency Management Officer) of the city, formerly Cortez Trotter, and the Executive Director of OEMC (Office of Emergency Management and Communications) are two totally different positions.

Technically, the Superintendent of CPD, the Commissioner of CFD, and the Executive Director of OEMC, all report to the CEO of the city.

Essentially, Weis, Brooks & Orozco all report to Weis. Weis reports to himself. Silly? Yes, but what else do you expect from our fool Mare?

It is even more confusing because Cortez Trotter, in order and not simultaneously, starting with the most recent, held the three positions of CEO, Executive Director of OEMC, and Commissioner of CFD.

Think back, once the lineup was:

Trotter as CEO.
Cline at CPD.
Huberman at OEMC.
Orozco at CFD,

which means, the CEO of the city and the head of OEMC are seperate and distinct and are not currently held by the same person, but the CEO of the city and the Superintendentr of Police are currently held by one person, Weis.

The current lineup is:

Weis as CEO.
Weis as Superintendent of Police.
Brooks as Fire Commissioner.
Orozco as ED of OEMC.

Harry Bell took out an armed and dangerous escapee (a former PO) in the loading dock of the Federal Building.

He saved many civilian lives that day and gave his own.

He deserves to be on that wall just for that---you know nothing of sacrifice.

And no, I am not a member of the Bellomini family.

There are people on that wall and in the star case that have no reason to be there--one being a PO assigned to the Mounted Unit who was drunk and fell off his horse.

He was a retired CPD detective that went to work for the US Marshalls' Service.

A female security guard got sloppy with her handcuffing. A bankrobber being taken to court slipped his cuffs, took her. She ran away. He ran out of the building with her gun.

Harry B positioned himself in a way that the gun fire would not injure citizens in the downtown loop during business hours. He died in the gun battle.

As for his kids having spots, so what? HB had a lot of friends.

Would you trade your father for a spot?

His name belongs on the wall. Long overdue.
