Where Did This Money Come From?
Despite a budget deficit estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars, the Daley administration is giving raises for 50 politically appointed Streets and Sanitation ward superintendents.
The move angered labor leaders, who have been told by the administration that unionized city workers must make sacrifices---or even face layoffs---to balance City Hall’s budget.
"They are asking our people for concessions, yet giving their bosses a raise," said Chicago Federation of Labor leader Dennis Gannon. "It leaves a bad taste in your mouth. It's just not rational."
Mr. Gannon, using the word "rational" in anything to do with Daley, the Machine and the City of Chicago is a hanging offense in these here parts. We urge you to withdraw the statement and just keep going to the media to point out the base hypocrisy on display by the mayor.

OT...For two days my partner and I have been trying to go shoot...we were told "Glock training" was going on and we could go to the academy between 2200-0600 hours. We are on days...how the hell are we supposed to "hit the range" so we are up to par on our training, when we can't "hit the range"? I've actually gone to a range in one of the suburbs just because CPD ranges are such a hassle. This is ridiculous. They shouldn't shut coppers who are happy with their guns out, just cause somebody else wants an upgrade.
Just needed to vent...feel better, but still didn't get to shoot today. Guess if I left now, I could be at the academy when the range "opens".

One week he says that the city is so broke that he needs workers to take 3 days off without pay.
Then the next week he gives raises to S&S heavies.
It was HIS and the councils' spending that put the city in financial predicament. So instead of him and the city council making a leadership show by turning back some of their salary, they bleed the lower echelon workers.
If the city can be without these workers for 3 days, then obviously they are not really needed.

Tell the truth about the work schedule FOP. Here is the deal - at the beginning of the year, 2 districts are going on 6 days and three off, two districts are going on 10 hour days and two districts are going on 12 hour days. Most districts will remain on the regular schedule. These are the dramatic schedule changes. Will SCC post this comment?

I just made my son read your post. He wants to be a police officer. If he does, then he should have his eyes open. I can't believe that I am telling him the same thing my father told me. Get a degree and do something where you can make a lot of money and don't have to kiss anyone's ass.

Its not really public knowledge but the alderthieves are getting a raise, no strike that a cost of living increase not a raise. How silly of me to thing alderthieves would be getting a raise during a crisis. They even took care of that silly requirement of having to vote on it by passing the needed legislation to make CCOLAs automatic without the minor inconvenience of the public hearings or the public even knowing about it. But then again they deverve it for all the hours they put in. And by the way does anyone know how much they pay for helth insurance? Or what Daley pays for that matter?
One asks what does the FOP do all day long. Well I know what they don't do: qualify with their weapons. No sense being like the rest of us. And notice how quick they were to defend themselves with every resource at their disposal. Us? they would have thrown us under the bus in a heartbeat.
