Gunshot Detectors

We saw at least one, maybe two stories on the news Thursday night. Seems the City was installing Gunshot Detectors to the existing POD cameras down in Englewood in response to the Hudson shootings. We won't even go into the glitches and flaws this entire system is riddled with (and believe us, we know the problems), the fact is the system doesn't work as designed. Cameras point the wrong way over and over and over again. And 75% of the time, no one is watching them because they're understaffed and information overloaded.

But we suppose having a camera that calls the police is better than the current system - where two people are killed prior to 0800 hours and no one calls the police until nearly 1500. We hate to keep bringing up Kitty Genovese but it's apt. At least we aren't getting the reports like we did a few months back where 5 people were killed and first call to police was made by a neighbor who noticed a bunch of assholes looting the house of TVs and furniture. She peeked in a back door and noticed the "entrepreneurs" were stepping over a dead woman before calling 9-1-1.

Supposedly all that the cameras captured from the Hudson murders was trees.

Zero useful images.

Great positioning of cameras by OEMC

PODS are a joke and a waste; plain and simple. shmoozing the public into thinking they are safe and only temporarily moving crime to a different corner until the scum on the streets realize nobody is ever watching these PODS.

they sell dope, rob and shoot guns right under these cameras each and everyday and i have never heard any info given over the air or pdt about POD information. what another waste by our great leader

I work on the West Side but isn't Englewood & the surrounding areas statically more dangerous than Iraq?

So did anyone ask Obama when we're pulling out of Englewood?!

My name is Joe the citizen, when they first put these cameras up, I thought they said all the cop cars would have access to them via remote control on their car computers, where we lied too??

Of course daley lied to you as he does to everyone he meets! The mayor runs a criminal organization bigger than Gotti's (RIP) ever was! But daley operates unabated and will continue his criminal acts as no one would ever challenge the "king"!

The PODS are a HUGE waste of money. I have yet to call the Fusion Center and have them give me anything of any use.

Most common responses:

The POD isn't working
The POD is out of focus
The POD was rotated in the opposite direction
The POD stops recording at XXXX hours....

I asked about the 'GunShot' PODS and the dude at the Fusion Center it's all media BS. There is no technology as such in Chicago. It's more of the OZ (Daley) hiding behind his curtain playing the media like the sheep they are.

Check out "The Broken Heart of Rogers Park" at MorseHellHole.com

Its a priceless journal of urban living and Chicago style Communist politics.

They regularly talk about the need for things such as PODS. They don't realize that what every home in Rogers Park needs is Claymore mines. The seniors in the west end of 024 are taking a beating these days from marauding predators.

Cameras are a great idea, but implementation is often a problem. There are digital cameras available with adequate resolution to be of actual use. Of course, Chicago does not have them. The ones I have seen are pretty slick and can be served up on a network so anyone on the network who is allowed to can access it. Often used in industrial settings for remote monitoring of various processes so operators can watch them from the control room.

As mentioned, there is also the information overload problem. There really is no answer for this problem at present. You can't afford enough operators to watch the video real time, and the software to reduce it to a manageable level just is not there. Maybe a few decades from now, but not today.

The gun shot detectors actually work pretty well in other cities, don't know how well in Chicago, but the problem is that the shooter is not so stupid as to hang out real long after a shooting. The cops get there long after the shooter is gone. You might be able to somehow connect the location of the shot to a camera and get a picture of the guy, but I suspect even that kind of minimal functionality is not readily available in Chicago.

Keep in mind that the people who select and run these kind of things are not experts in the field. They are hacks selected by Daley and his cronies, so there is little chance the equipment will ever actually work well together. Even if the people running them were not Daley hacks, they would likely be people with police backgrounds rather than technology backgrounds and would be clueless on how to implement such a system or even to know what is practical, so you probably would not end up with anything better.

We have a gunshot detector on Hoyne and Birchwood in 024. Been there for years. It will tell you the location of a shot within a matter of feet. When you get there you may find a body or smell sulpher, but, so what? Shooter will be in the wind by the time you get there. But the question is who will be reading the detector and giving out the information in real time?

We have gunshot detectors in 011 & out of the 50 or so detections only 1 or 2 have been bona fide. When someone does get shot or shots are fired in the area, the detector never goes off. Its all bullshit.

Dont think many people know that our former super klein earned himself a piece of the pie in the sky. Yep, he got himself a contract with the pod people and grasped another nice salary, plus his politcally earned hack county consultant gig, plus his ridiculous pension. So are you starting to understand why he, too, kept luberman around? There's always a pay back, or should I say pay off?

You mean only one or two have been verified by corroborating witnesses or evidence such as a body, right? I've heard the calls come out and the lackluster response to them. I'm sure you would pull a rd for a bonified shots fired where no one was injured, no damage, and only shell casings found, right?

Those people at the homicide scene that were looting weren't committing any kind of crime.

They were simply recycling things. Those dead fools didn't need that stuff anymore.
