Alder-Drunk Arrested
Ald. Sharon Denise Dixon (24th) left a North Side police district this morning, offering no comment on her arrest Tuesday night on charges of drunken driving and obstructing a police officer.
Dixon walked out of the Belmont District station at about 9:40 a.m., refusing to comment as she was picked up by a female friend.
But a former fiance and current administrative aide, reached by the Chicago Sun-Times, defended the alderwoman.“I am just now talking to her,’’ said Frank Watkins. “It’s not true. She has a very different story.”
A different story? This should be interesting. Aldercreature Dixon is scheduled to hold a press conference this afternoon and the betting is as follows:
- "The police put that liquor on me" (2-1 odds)
- "The police are all racist stopping black folks" (3-1 odds)
- "I'm an alderperson - I can drive around police cars, over hoses and over the goddamn fireman if I feel like it" (7-1 odds)

Remember, Dixon is the piece of crap who got a 010th District officer launched off the car he worked for years, serving the people of North Lawndale with respect and high praise, because he wouldn't sit on her home (which doubled as her aldermanic office) and do light office work when she needed copies and such.

Speaking of "role models", I want to share with you the story of one of my childhood role models.
Yesterday, I added the just released movie "The Express: The Ernie Davis Story" to my only other DVD "collection": ("Casablanca").
Ernie was the first black Heisman Trophy winner after his college days as a great running back at Syracuse. While impressive, that's not the real reason I admired him. His athletic prowess paled in comparison to this ever polite, smiling, easy going young man of character off the gridiron. What a class act!
As we go through life, we are fortunate enough to sometimes meet unforgettable good people like Ernie. I still treasure a photo of Ernie and me which was taken up at Northwestern when he was practicing for the College All-Star Game versus the NFL world champions.
In his own quiet way, he did more for racial harmony than all the preachers in all the pulpits combined.
"THE EXPRESS" was released in DVD yesterday. If you are a fan of inspirational films, the inate goodness of man and football, you can't go wrong. Check it out. Be sure to watch the "bonus feature" entitled "Making History: The Story of Ernie Davis".
I'm not ashamed to say it. If you had met Ernie and knew his story, you might want to have some tissue handy.

Wow because of all this bad press concerning aldremen I think the Mayor should start a new city agency that investigates misconduct by aldermen, we could call it the Independant Aldermanic Review Authority or IARA for short.
If IARA finds that certain aldermen are misusing their power or breaking the law then they will be forced to be on paid leave. I think that the City should also suggest that any statements given to IARA should be audiotaped and since aldermen can carry guns they should be required to blow in breath machines if they are involved in any shooting incidents also if Richie thinks they have been drinking and coming to work they should be ordered to submit to a breathalizer.

I have probably helped put several bartenders' kids through college. Some of the best cops I have ever known, bosses or not, have at one time or another been a bartender, an honorable profession.
Think about it, a GBT (good bartender) is someone with good people skills. Can conduct a conversation with you on any subject and make you feel intelligent.
A GBT is a good psychologist and will lend a sympathetic ear to your problems and offer good advice.
A GBT has a good sense of humor. A GBT keeps people happy, the party going, and watches out for you, so that you haven't had too much.
A GBT knows how to handle people, to make them happy to be where they are, and make them want to return,(like to work). A GBT can do this with a lot of people at once, people who are alone (99), in pairs (partners), or in small groups.
Bea Cuello was a Good Boss and if you think she did Dannye Ward wrong, ask him!

I have probably helped put several bartenders’ kids through college. Some of the best cops I have ever known, bosses or not, have at one time or another been a bartender, an honorable profession.
Think about it, a GBT (good bartender) is someone with good people skills. Can conduct a conversation with you on any subject and make you feel intelligent.
A GBT is a good psychologist and will lend a sympathetic ear to your problems and offer good advice.
A GBT has a good sense of humor. A GBT keeps people happy, the party going, and watches out for you, so that you haven't had too much.
A GBT knows how to handle people, to make them happy to be where they are, and make them want to return,(like to work). A GBT can do this with a lot of people at once,
people who are alone (99), in pairs (partners), or in small groups.

Next time you complain about a boss on this blog, one of the morale killers, think about where they learned their people skills.

Had you let her go, then she would have surely sued you. At that point, she could claim anything happened. Now she can't.
It's always better to make an arrest in a heated situation, rather than avoid it and hope it all goes away.
Now her ass is in court. If she goes on TV to deny drinking and bash you, she can lose her right not to testify at her trial. The truth is she was drinking. In fact, she was drunk. She was most likely drinking with other people, some may be friends, some may not. Regardless, there are witnesses. You don't know what they'll say, but the truth is, she doesn't either.
If I had to guess, I would expect her to plead guilty and pay a fine. But even if she beats it with a sympathetic crony judge, if she then goes after you, she'll have a million mad mothers hot on her trail.
Good job officer. We are all on your side. But better than that you have the truth on your side and the satisfaction that you enforced the law in a tricky situation where many others would be afraid to.

My daughter attends Syracuse. She told me that they just unveiled a life size statue of Ernie Davis on the quadrangle. They also have one outside his H.S. in Elmira NY. He loved kids and visited the sick ones in hospitals before he passed at only 23. God has a special place for that wholesome young man. He was an All American in every way.
My family and me watched THE EXPRESS last night. It's so sad that today's youngsters don't have roll models like Ernie Davis.
