Be an Aldercreature's Friend II

Now the Sun Times is reporting the other side of the story:
  • Owners of a Bridgeport hot dog stand that is the focus of a city investigation insisted Friday that they hired a private scavenger service and never once asked for city crews to make illegal pickups.

"I've had a Dumpster for 20 years. Why would they pick up my garbage when I have a Dumpster" from Allied Waste, said Ginger O'Malley, who runs O'Malley's Hot Dogs, 3501 S. Union, with help from her husband, a retired Chicago Police officer.

"I'm not out there staring at my garbage cans 24/7. I don't have a camera out there. I don't stand out there and see the garbage trucks come through. But, to the best of my knowledge, they never picked it up. We have never asked for anything. We tried to do everything by the book. We don't want any problems."

That certainly doesn't sound like an outright denial. The "never once asked" and "to the best of my knowledge" are phrases used by defense attorneys, politicians caught in scandal and other people looking for loopholes.

Here's the thing - taxpayers are getting fed up. We've got the highest City, County and State taxes in the nation along with one of the highest unemployment rates in the mid-west. There's an undercurrent brewing against the established political order and coincidentally, the established political order is centered on Bridgeport and the 11th Ward. Certain people are going to start diming out the old scams for whatever reasons. We all know they exist. We all know how they operated. This entire burg is built on corruption of the highest order.

But whoever is trying to say the blog is at fault for the Sun Times reporting, you're really stretching. We don't have a circulation of a few hundred thousand and a staff of crack reporters and investigative journalists to vet their newspaper stories. Neither does the Sun Times anymore, but they still have more than we do. We use them almost as much as they use us.

um...SCC..YOU have people who provide information and tell you if it is verifiable or not. The PAPER MEDIA have journalists, (apparently a degree I presume), that print stories regardless of it's reliabilty or truthfulness. The facts need not stand in the way. SCC and it's bloggers are ever vigilant to ridicule, bandy about the name of, make reference to the size of one's penis if that info is found to be less than factual. Reporters just say whatever the fuck they want and when there wrong, you never here another word about it. That's the difference. Why would anyone read a paper? My Grandma's 90 and even she reads SCC.

Add "I don't recall" and it's the same line used by coppers looking for loopholes.

If it were my company being accused of receiving city paid trash removal when it wasn't, I'd submit the billings and my payment for the last three to five years or more as proof I was paying for it.

It's pretty simple to get to the truth about this.

That brings up another question, if the city has been paying for the removal, has the guy with the Hot Dog stand been deducting trash removal as an expense on his tax returns?

SCC, omally's does have private garbage pickup.

the restaurant is closed for the winter.

how does the suntimes write these BS stories?

i hope the ward supt sues the times for slander!!!

i'm no fan of BALLESS BALCER, but mr o'mally is one of our own.

he will be happy to show anyone the garbage pickup bills.

1/24/2009 11:40:00 AM

One of our own??????

A political hack who mastered pay to play???.....

I wonder how many cars are actually counted for tax purposes during Sox games??

One our own wouldn't charge almost $10.00 for two hot dogs to fellow cops that worked a half block from his hot dog shack and that he relied on for protection.

Every interview he is in he throws out that he is a retired police officer.....funny thing is that none of his own ever has a good thing to say about him.

He should start referring to himself as a friend of the 11th Ward instead.

O'Malley's is really pricey and the food isn't good. Its a trap for people walking to the sox game. Over-priced!!

Not too many 009th district coppers eat there. Only inside coppers who walk there from the station would eat there. But since the station moved, I doubt any coppers will go there.

So what I'm saying is who gives a shit?

You know, it would be nice if they threw in free pop or something.

fuck omalleys i remember when the city told bev she couldnt have her little stand on 35th and emerald because she had no access to running water which was bs because the service station which was a full service station at the time always acommadated bev. she gone for abit but found a new home for her little stand at 38th and union and she is as popular as ever. her hotdogs outdo omalleys leaps and bounds. it good to see one of the brigeport elite take a hit. remember to get a pregame dog at bevs which is always the first home game of the sox. this 40plus year patron cant wait. ill go with my older sister like we did when we kids and experience a "good dog"

My God its as clear as the nose on your face or the amount of salt on the streets of Bridgeport!

That neighborhood has the cleanest streets of any neighborhood in the damn city, while I cant get off my curb without a tow truck they have salt trucks working at the slightest hint of snow.

Driving into work one day I was shocked at how clean the streets were, it looked like a late snowfall in the spring, while the rest of the city was buried under 8-10 inches.

I am so sick of this crap, what the hell does that asshole of a mayor have on somebody!!!!
