J-Fed Does Right

We've been getting a bunch of crap in the comment sections lately as we attempt to keep the March at the top of everyone's "to-do" list. Mainly, it's City trolls attempting to spread disinformation about whether or not you're allowed to bring guns (you are), whether you should show up in uniform (you shouldn't - if you're coming from court, cover up), and whether of not the Department will be interfering with our First Amendment Rights as they have in the past.

The following was posted in our comment sections three days ago. We wondered if it was real or not. A little detective work revealed it to be genuine and posted in a number of stations and units and CO Books:
  • ----- Original Message -----
    From: Weis, Jody P.
    To: [removed]
    Sent: Fri Mar 27 19:15:49 2009
    Subject:

    All:

Earlier today, I was copied on a letter sent from FOP President Mark Donahue to the City’s Corporation Counsel alleging that the Department was planning an improper first amendment investigation into those individuals who choose to participate in an FOP-organized picket on 02 April.

This allegation is false and not substantiated by any information that is available within the Department. I am deeply concerned that such an allegation would be raised against members of the Department without proof.

I would ask that you inform the members of your command that the Department is committed to upholding the constitution, and that we will support the first amendment rights of the men and women of the Department, regardless of the first amendment activity they choose to participate in. The Department will support their rights; it is vital that we stress this point to the membership.

Every day, numerous first amendment activities are ongoing throughout the City with the full support and protection of legal first amendment activity by the members of the Department; the event on 02 April will enjoy the same support and protections by the Department provided to any other activity.

Thank you for your leadership in this issue.
    Jody

    Jody Weis
    Superintendent
    Chicago Police Department
The fact that J-Fed felt it necessary to address this issue tells anyone familiar with the political structure exactly what we need to know. So as we give J-Fed piles of grief when he deserves it, we'll give him his props when he earns them, too. One instance of doing the right thing isn't going to change our minds, but it is the right thing and needs to be pointed out.

The PBPA - Lieutenants and Captains Association posted a message of support Monday and a press release was issued. Thanks to Lieutenant Weisskopf, Captain Drozd and their memberships.

SecondCitySarge has declared their intent to join the Informational Picket, but no word from the official Sergeants Union site.

We still haven't seen a SecondCityExempts blog up and running, and we don't really expect one soon. In any event, Thursday is the day. Let's see if some of the supervisors expressing support come out and show some support, too. The more the merrier.

JPud had to cover his ass somehow. Notice the email was CC'd to him, not sent to him. It apparently was sent to Corp Counsel as a warning that the FOP was aware of the games that will be played. I notice the statement didn't say anything about who else got a copy of the email. Maybe the press got a copy too? Maybe Jfuk was worried he'd be burned at the stake if the media had advance notification of the city's intent and sat silently waiting for them to do what they want to do?

Whatever the bullshit reason the puppet sent that email, it wasn't legit.

And don't think for one second that there WON'T be instigators there because there WILL. And you can bet that some of them won't even be named against you because they're Daley machine bullshit.

Let's keep count of how many CR's are obtained on marching personnel and how many of those were blanket "I observed the officer offending a citizen and took action" without having a complainant.

And of those where there IS a civilian complainant, everyone who gets a CR that day needs to provide the names of their complainants to this board so we can ALL do our own investigation as to who these complainants really are.

Stay aware from EVERYONE, talk to NO ONE not marching with you.

Take away every excuse from them to cause you harm, because THAT'S what Daley wants to have happen. We are to be made examples of how unruly and undeserving we are of raises or contractual benefits and Daley will stop at nothing to use the media opportunity to manufacture his goal.

Good luck to us all.

While I agree with SCC otherwise, I will not commend Daley's stooge for a stroke of genius in issuing a directive denouncing any attempts at First Amendment retaliation and/or intimidation. Like any citizens, all off-duty police officers may demonstrate their grievances on what manifestly qualifies as a "matter of public concern" (See Connick v. Myers, 461 US 138).

Neither Daley, Weis or any of their dumbest suckholes wants to be named as defendants in federal litigation pursuant to violations of protected Constitutional rights.

Through Daley's hubris, corruption and mismanagement, CPD morale is nonexistent. Obviously, the protection and safety of the public is of paramount concern. Yet, when this scoundrel of a mayor has drained the once proud CPD of all esprit de corps, the public suffers the consequences.

A vigilant media and an informed citizenry know that highly motivated police officers, led by our best and brightest, will result in a most effective police force of which all of us can be proud. Focus on this fact Thursday morning.

All too many of our active officers are spending their tours in utter despair as veritable zombies. This must change from the very top. Indeed, white shirts and retirees should discretely urge all officers to participate in this show of unity. Bring family, friends and all concerned citizens.

A formidable display of blue solidarity at City Hall WILL result in a defining moment in the modern history of the CPD. RESPECT! HONOR! PRIDE! CAMARADERIE! MORALE!

While it helps, you don't even need the passion that burns within some of us. You are "CHICAGO'S FINEST!

You have both the high moral ground and every reason to be outraged. DEMAND DALEY'S RESPECT!

Again, "ninety percent of life is just showing up"!

See you guys Thursday morning!

He and his merry band of thieves (Brust, Daly, Masters).
I have personally been there when they have walked past on numerous occasions and NOTHING, no nod, no eyes my way, no hello, no good morning, no good afternoon, NOTHING.
His mother never taught him any manners.
His previous bosses never taught him how to treat the troops.

I have been retired now for awhile, but this blog is a lifeline for inforamtion and laughs. J-Fed should of all along been a thinking man's go to guy! But he did what he did to Cozzi that totally ruined Cozzi's life! The exempt program needs to be revamped and badly,he stated that after 1 year he was going to change it again!

My ex partner faxed me his newest Pax501 talking about how he told supervisors to improve morale. Being retired from Midway airport, after working under some good commanders and unit C.O., It seems constantly on this blog that the girl he put in at Midway Ellen Schmitz seems to be a complete morale downer! Maybe just maybe he needs to make a command decision and move her, irregardless to waht her husband Leo's weak input is.

After talking to my partner who unfortuately is on medical, and will be retiring soon, a good unit is being totally ruined. It takes many to build a trust and just 1 boss to ruin it. Guess it is just as usual "clout city" still active in Chicago! Happy to be retired, and God Bless the working CPD officers and their families.

P.S. I will be out at the march in full support of CPD!!

To those complaining about City Hall being the location rather than the Olympic sites, the media coverage will be seen by the Olympic Committee regardless of where it is held, which is why a huge turnout with no adverse incidents is critical.

Logistically trying to get people to show up at each site rather than one location would be difficult at best. Judging from the number of people coming up with lame excuses as to why they won’t make it to City Hall ( I’d go if we were at the Olympic sites, I’d go if it were on a Saturday, in this economy we’re lucky to have jobs) there would be even more whiners if they had to pick one of several locations.

We are not lucky to have jobs, we made the decision to take a job with crappy hours, lower pay, etc… because of the job security and benefits. Now because we want a raise smaller than that given to the teachers, laborers, aldermen, and various members of the Mayor’s staff and smaller than the cost of living has gone up, we’re supposed to feel guilty, I think not. If the economy is to blame now, why weren’t we given decent raises when the economy was thriving?

As stated in the original SCC post about this, either put up or SHUT UP!

Jody Weis, please read this aticle. It is very important. This could be one of us one day soon, the way things are going. Will you be there for us?

Officer, dog square off against Modesto mob of 60

A Modesto police officer had to pull his gun to keep a hostile crowd at bay early Sunday.

The officer sustained minor injuries in the southwest Modesto incident, said police spokesman Sgt. Brian Findlen. Police are not releasing the officer's name. The officer's dog was assaulted but not seriously injured, Findlen said. Police arrested several suspects in connection with the incident. A loaded assault rifle was found later at the scene of the struggle, which unfolded about 2 a.m.

Findlen said the officer pulled his gun only after other deterrents, including his police dog, failed to keep the crowd under control. "In a situation where you really feel that your life is in imminent danger, your options become very few," Findlen said.

Some members of the crowd told the officer that "he was not going to leave the scene alive," according to police.

J-Fed has done a couple of things that, unfortunately for everyone, are unforgiveable. The Cozzi prosecution first and foremost. However, he has done some good... especially the following, which are HUGE....

Alternate scheduling- 6 day is being phased out!! I never thought I would see the day!! (4 and 2 is awesome, by the way)

Guns- we are crawling into the modern era- carbine may eventually work out, and we FINALLY can carry striker fire (glock etc)

Cars- Talked to a reliable guy at MM- a fleet of tahoes is on the way

The unfortunate thing is that if J-Fed would have left well enough alone with Cozzi and been smart enough not to wear the uniform, he would be really popular these days. But when you revisit old discipline and start arresting policemen that have served their punishment, the bridge of trust isn't burned... its obliterated.

The F.O.P. needs to file a class action lawsuit naming the City as a defendent and seek damages for its members who have been unfairly denied use of their FLSA comp time.

If you are denied, get a name of who denied your request, date and time of denial and document each time it occurs and make sure you name that person in your lawsuit. The exempt member or W/C denying your time request may also be trying to retaliate against you for what they feel is failing to comply to the department's "unofficial" quota system. If you feel you are being singled out make sure you name the supervisor who is not letting you use the very comp time you earned in the suit and seek punitive damages against them to send a message that such behavior will not be tolerated!!!

I guess this little demonstration is scaring people at HQ and on the 5th floor at Shittyhall

Why are we doing this at city hall? Isn't the point to show the olympic comitee this? Who cares if the mayor sees us out there or not. It's not for his eys but them so why aren't we doing it where they'll be?

3/31/2009 04:01:00 AM
*****************************

Because marching in front of the IOC where they stand will prove his point that we're only trying to embarass him. While that's a perfect afterthought, it's not the goal of the march.

We're supposed to be marching because of Daley's ignorance and disdain towards the police department. The point is to succeed at embarassing Daley by NOT acting like the fools he tries to claim we are.

We embarass Daley by marching and demonstrating and pointing it out loud and clear that Daley has always hated the police department, and that he pulls this kind of shit every chance he gets to fuck with the police department. A successfull demonstration will leave DALEY looking like the cynical fool, not us.

We are NOT demonstrating against Daley's obsession with his legacy and the 2016 Olympic games.

We could create an entire "laundry list" of reasons why the CPD is such an ongoing clusterfuck. It is only mere coincidence that the IOC arrival in Chicago is imminent.
While it's possible that our demonstration could have an adverse affect on Chicago's Olympic bid, this is Mr. Daley's problem.

Stay focused on what really matters: "King" Daley's arrogant lack of RESPECT for "Chicago's Finest". Other lesser issues will fall in place.

As a demonstrator, your actions speak for themselves. DEMAND DALEY'S RESPECT!

Don't drag red herrings into this that would permit the media to convolute the overall message that we are sending. There are scores of secondary grievances that could be made. Bite your tongues. FOCUS!

It's all about Daley's cavalier lack of RESPECT for our officers, many of whom have paid the ultimate price in the most honorable of callings.

God forbid that the CPD must suffer the recent carnage of East Oakland to arouse the public conscience.

If you insist on commenting to the media, don't elaborate. Simply state that this demonstration is in response to Mayor Daley's flagrant and insufferable lack of RESPECT for the men and women in BLUE. Period.

Remember. YOU can make it happen Thursday morning.

On a side note, never underestimate the treachery of the City. Be alert for Daley/Weis operatives who will attempt to incite us to commit unlawful acts. Also, confine your inevitable use of obscenities to this blog site and when we are among ourselves, ladies and gentlemen.

Frankly, I trust THIS letter a lot more than Weis' letter.

To the Men and Women of the Illinois State Police
First and foremost, please allow me to express what an incredible honor it is for me to be appointed as your new Director. While I am certainly new to the Illinois State Police, I can assure you that the values of Integrity, Service and Pride are as much a part of my life as they are yours. I look forward to working together as we face the many challenges inherent within law enforcement and as we celebrate what will become our many successes.
There has been some speculation as to whether or not I will wear the ISP uniform. Having graduated from United States Military Academy at West Point, be assured I have a clear and deep understanding of what it takes to earn the right to wear the ISP uniform and the esprit de corps among the members of this great law enforcement agency. Because of my profound respect for all of you who have earned this honor, I have made the decision that as your Director, I will not wear the ISP uniform. That right will be reserved exclusively for those of you who have earned the distinct honor of calling yourself an Illinois State Police Trooper.
Having said that, please be assured that my intentions are to be an advocate for all of the hard-working employees of the ISP family. This proud agency would not exist today without the unwavering dedication and the deep loyalty of its employees. I pledge to work tirelessly on the front lines as an advocate for each and every one of you. In return, I expect no less than your continued best efforts on behalf of the people of Illinois. Working together, we will continue the proud legacy of the Illinois State Police.
Director Jonathon E. Monken

I-Report with Chuck Goudie called Buried Treasure. They say it is a bonus of 4700.00 that city employees have been receiving for decades and the Alderman says cutting it could save the city millions right away. They are coming after our pay and all the officers who want to sit it out on the sidelines on Thursday should know that they are about to take a pay cut if city hall gets its way. We really need people to show up and be counted.

Maybe a separate post SCC...O.T. but Chuck Goudie has a piece on ABC Wednesday night about Alderman Beale and his supposed "uncovering" of $4700 per year in bonuses that the police and fire departments receive...that being uniform and duty availability. Funny how this comes out with all of the political posturing and our contract talks. Its not really any secret, it's in our contract...but if I lose my uniform allowance, I will NEVER ever buy another item at a uniform store again. Sorry boss, I know that my uniform isn't up to par, but, I don't have the money to buy any new items due to living in this crooked city and county. Take away my duty availability ? When Mr. or Mrs citizen ask you for help on lunch...Sorry, I am on lunch, call 911 for anything you need. If the district was in a backlog all night and I didn't get to take lunch...FUCK YOU, pay me. Here is my slip. I know that we don't use the full amount of the uniform allowance for only uniforms, but, I use it for lunch also. And pens, correct-o-tape, new name tag here and there, shoes, shoe polish. Most of these things need to be bought when needed, not when the uniform allowance is given. If the alderman thinks we don't need this stuff, fine. When the homicide detective shows up to a scene with a button missing on his shirt, nasty shoes, holes in his suit pants, and a frayed neck tie, remember alderman beale...this is what you asked for! When you used to hear that the P.O.'s at their lunch location on-viewed a disturbance, that probably won't happen again. It'll be, "Squad, send a car for a disturbance with a mental...we are on our UNPAID lunch." Be careful what you ask for alderman...you just may get it!

On Monday, the unions representing police lieutenants and captains said they support the FOP members' picket.

However, those unions are not telling their members to participate but rather leaving that up to their individual decisions, said Lt. Bob Weisskopf, president of the Chicago Police Lieutenants' Association.

And today the head of the sergeants union said his union voted not to support Thursday's picket for fear it could jeopardize its own contract negotiations. The union acknowledged the FOP's "frustrations" but said it's in a different position.

"Our situation is different," said Sgt. John Pallohusky, president of the Chicago Police Sergeants' Association. "Our board voted against supporting mainly because we perceive we're making progress in the negotiating process. ... If there are members who decide to do it, so be it. But we're not urging them."

Thank you to the Lt's and Capt's to bad the Sgt's are a bunch of kiss ass's afraid of King richie the mumble mouthed.

Counter that pax 501 b.s. tell them how the carbines are locked up in the radio rooms, batteries that won't last an 8 hour tour, AIRA that is full of bugs, crappy PDT's if you are lucky enough to have one. We officers better wake up and smell the coffee and realize that we need a better union, one that will support us, I'm a Sgt. and was an FOP member for many years, but I believe in fighting fire with fire, if the City is out to F--K us then why is FOP & the PBPA so emotionless and lets them get away with it, The presidents of both of these unions should be at the door of the mayors chief of staff and budget director geting us some money before Thursday, If we show up with a decent crowd, We win, if no big show then they will give us nothing, I have less then 2 yrs to go and have nothing to lose, please show up and give them HELL.

You walk around with a detail of who knows how many men and the rest of the citizens fend for themselves.
So let me tell you something mayor you are the only individual in this city that needs to "GET REAL". If you took the time to have a real thought in that small mind of yours, you might take real care of the very men and women that make this city inhabitable. You fool around on this contract and you may have a "Detroit" on your hands.

ONCE AGAIN I AM DISAPPOINTED BY THE BLOW HARDS ON MY WATCH.

THEY SEEM TO HAVE ALL THE GREATEST EXCUSES:

I HAVE TO WORK MY SECURITY GIG AT CPS.

I CANT BECAUSE MY FILL IN THE BLANK NEEDS ME TO PICK THEM UP.

ITS A WASTE OF TIME.

I DONT WANT TO GET DUMPED.

I THINK ITS AGAINST THE CONTRACT TO MARCH.

THE SAD PART IS NONE OF THESE MOPES EVER READ THE CONTRACT OR ATTEND MEETINGS.

I HOPE ALL OF THE FOP BOARD SHOWS UP AND ACTUALLY WALKS AROUND.

WHAT TIME DO WE STORM THE 5TH FLOOR?

PLEASE NO LAME SIGNS!
I GOT A FEELING FOP IS GOING TO USE SOME WEAK ASS SIGNS.

IM GUESSING MARK WILL WEAR HIS TAN BUSSINESS JACKET.... MARK WEAR A SWEATER U WERE NEVER A DETECTIVE!

Don't they have a sign in their Union Hall that reads "If you have balls leave tham at home, because you don't need them in your position" ???

ScumTimes: maybe when you start printing news about the corruption in this city your rag sheet may survive. Your quoting Daley as saying "he's giving us a new police station"? he is not giving us a damn thing. As we ALL PAY TAXES! its the tax payers whose monies were used. it didn't come from his pocket or his stash! giving us (check out who gets the contracts for the shabby work) is his usual egotistical remark when anyone dares question him, and you reporting people just let it continue.
Also. we are not upset with the IOC group coming in. we're upset because we can not get a fair contract. his aldercreatures & himself okay their raises, 6% or better, union workers get a increase and we're two years w/o a contract. we did not pull the offer off the table. he did and announced it to you media people. stop kissing ass, report the true facts and get off your butts, then hopefully your everyday working force will continue to have jobs at your paper. how's much is the upper echelon making? did they take salary increases? any of them taking a cut or living a different way? we're not asking for much, just a decent contract.

To the PPOs If I were you I would not attend. The reason being that you are "at will employees". The fop will take your money after 12 months but will not do shit to back you up. I don't care what they tell you, THEY WILL DO NOTING TO HELP YOU. If this fight turns ugly, and it may, you will get your chance soon enough. So stay safe for now.

Goudie you could of pushed on this and his attempt on getting his security company to be the police. again, what is the kick back in this package. he gets over 100k a year and no where does it show in his ward.

Have you heard the latest sound bite from Shortshanks on NewsRadio78 tonight? He says that Police Officers had better "wake up and join the real world." Well, Mr Mayor, we are going to ROCK YOUR SHORT LITTLE WORLD come Thursday morning. You've sent us an unqualified goof to head up our Dept, and it appears that our new "Permanent Bachelor" Governor one upped you on that with the ISP!
But we are going to be a respectful but UNIFIED FRONT come Thursday morning, and I know there will adequate representation not only among us blueshirts, but from the Sgts. and Lts. too. Just watch us!

off topic but I had an interview with commanders from canine units and as I was waiting for my interview a p.o. came out after being interviewed and handed me some general orders for some last minute studing but I discovered inside some scenerios written down. A minute later I was in the interview and was given the same scenerios as this p.o. had. Interview process has been over a month long I wonder how many other p.o.'s got the the scenerios before hand - same old same old for this department- fair testing my ass!

If You read the instructions when
you signed up for the oral boards,
you would have seen the link for the scenerio's. Don't start bullshit if you can't follow instructions.

Here is something for Beale...

Why are you bothering with $4700 a year for us lowly city employees when...

The economy may be in the tank but Chicago aldermen are now flush with spending money. Their expense allotment more than doubled last year.
Each of the fifty members of Chicago's City Council now receives $73,280 a year for expenses

according to city expense records obtained by the I-Team, Lake Michigan water isn't good enough for most Chicago alderman. They pay thousands of dollars a year from their city expense accounts to have bottled water delivered to their ward offices.

Among them is South Side alderman Anthony Beale who also paid more than $16,000 in tax money last year to a public relations firm that helps prepare ward newsletters sent out a few times a year, screens press calls, and sets up media interviews such as ours.
Goudie: "Nobody else in the city council has a public relations agency handling their calls from the media.
Ald. Anthony Beale, 9th Ward: I do know that the mayor has a very large media staff, um, and ya know, we're basically the mayor of a small ward."
City council rules allow the $73,000 in expense money to be spent on anything that aldermen consider "ordinary and necessary."
In some cases, purchases and payments are first made by the aldermen themselves or their election campaigns, meaning that the city many times reimburses alderman personally or their political organizations.

"You look at it and you think, well why did we do it this way? Well, we did it this way just because we always have," said Ald. Mary Ann Smith, 48th Ward.

"The inspector general would be appointed through a process that's collaborative between the mayor's office and the city council...It would address concerns over who would actually be the steering or the guiding force behind the inspector general's office," said Ald. Patrick O'Connor, 40th Ward.
"All of us who try to do our job honestly should invite the scrutiny of the inspector general," said Moore.
Such oversight and accountability might have prevented this from getting through last year: several hundred thousand dollars of expenses attributed to two dozen alderman without any description, the vendor name completely blank. All of them were filed in late December in what appeared to be a mysterious year-end rush for reimbursement, some for as much as $35,000.

"ALL OF US WHO DO OUR JOB HONESTLY SHOULD INVITE THE PROCESS"... I would guess Alderman Beale is NOT inviting this process!

VERY peculiar how Goudie does an I team report that shows the aldercreatures in their true colors, and now is, 1 day later, going to portray this crook as some sort of whistle blower! I am so sick of this shit... so sick of the stress and worry of the criminals running the asylum! This city sucks!

INFO for P.O.'s when your filling out an arrest on the computer and you save it or get a tracking # aka cb# this information is stored and accessible to the state and even defense attorneys. So if for any reason you change any info in the report upon sending it for approval the state and defense can see that and question the reason for changing your account of the facts.

Thanks to the NO BALLS SGTs UNIT for not showing. To tell you the truth, I probably wouldn't show up either if I was making $100,000 a yr and selling back $8000 worth of time due a yr and getting that 45 minutes day OT.

Oh almost forgot, double the amount of duty availability and uniform checks so that put's them at about $106,000. Ya, they need a raise..HAHAHAHAHAHA

Now if they could only sign a report with the proper classification on it, they would deserve the raise. HAHAHAHAHA

Sorry John P, there are several sgts in my unit who will be there on Thursday with our teams. We work together every day and we count on each other every day. You just lost votes on the next election, John. That was a pathetic statement and decision you and your board made about not participating nor supporting the march. To FOP members, please forgive John's selfishness and ignorant comment. It is not how the sergeants, he is supposed to represent, feel.

I'm ashamed of my union board members, but they don't speak for ANY of the Sgt's I know. We'll be out there!

The sergeant's union didn't vote not to support the picking- the Sergeant's association's board voted.

You had enough time to ask your reps to do a straw poll before the few made a decision for the rest.

Sergeants now look like selfish pigs- we've got ours-who cares what you want.
